morrisons is the best supermarket

Freshest food/best quality, more variety, more affordable, best hot food and salad, best in shopping experience, best checkout, best/most expensive looking marketing, best bags, best cafe, arguably best checkouts, the best range is far superior to anything else sold by other supermarkets or other private brands and its the best value too

In the city I live the morrisons is at the dodgy side in the worst part of traffic and even though I almost agree with you the majority of people completely avoid it. In the town I used to live in I was in morrisons most days and loved it. It is dear though.

I would argue Asdas pizzas take the medal

@BoldRubyPoet you've never spoken to the staff? Not even a "thank you".
Bit rude that.

My thoughts exactly.

Blueberrycreampie · 06/09/2024 21:05

My most dismal experience in a supermarket cafe was in Morrison's.

kitsuneghost · 06/09/2024 21:05

No. Morrisons is nasty
The only thing it does well is cheap booze and sweets

Singleandproud · 06/09/2024 21:06

Well as it's my normal shop, I've tried most things.

I mean literally many items are produced in the same factories as the other premium supermarket own brands and they put their own packaging on them. I have several family members that work there that often comment on how they get M&S Florentines in instead of Morrisons ones or whatever the product is.

Badbadbunny · 06/09/2024 21:07

They vary enormously. Some are still OK. Others have really gone downhill and are grimy, unwelcoming places with lots of gaps on the shelves. I don't think they have consistent management. Our home town one is absolutely dire and I don't go in anymore. The one in our next town is still really good. We go to York a lot and the Foss Island branch is diabolical in all aspects. Lots of empty shelves at different times of the day, really grumpy unhelpful staff and it's dirty and grimy everywhere - the kind of place you want to take a shower after you've visited. We've been going to York regularly for years and it used to be really good, but noticed a real deterioration just before covid and it's never recovered really.

Cheap wine on special offer there tonight was it OP?

ODFOx · 06/09/2024 21:07

They had the worst cheese selection of all the big 4 but I used to like their fish counter . We eat more cheese than fish so I stopped going years ago. Now we're out in the sticks and get delivery I might give them a try.

MrsKeats · 06/09/2024 21:09

Waitrose, Booths and Marks and Spencer's are clearly the best.

Oh no, I think their cheese counter is great. Cheese is the main reason I go to Morrisons!

The Morrisons local to me has a bigger Halal meat offering than other meat.

Booths is by far the best near me but not a shop to do your big shop in.

If the meat is British or New Zealand it has to be stunned by law so a recorded prayer playing in the background (of any religion) makes
To difference to the animal or me.

On average adding up a whole shop of items it's 2nd cheapest out of asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, booths, m & s, waitrose, budgens, Co op

We don't have a Morrisons in our City - great now I have supermarket envy.

The person is deluded who criticised their cheese, it's nicer than any farm shop I've ever brought cheese from.

Never tried their wine actually. I'm more of a beer person.

The plants/flowers are the best, with some more unusual varieties of houseplants and flowers that last.

I always like Morrisons once I'm in there. I think a friendlier branding style would go a long way; the first thing you see on entering my local branch is a lot of individual slices of cake in single use plastic packaging.

invisiblecat · 06/09/2024 21:13

Oh no it isn't.

And I say that as a long-term former shopper of theirs who used to sing their praises. The prices are inflated, they have got rid of a lot of their nicer budget ranges, the quality of the cuts of meat is not what it was (especially the joints), and the fruit and veg has really gone downhill, and goes off in no time at all. Their ready meals used to be brilliant, but are now really expensive and the quality of those has gone right downhill too. They used to have a fantastic and reasonably-priced selection of outdoor plants, and they've lost the plot with those as well.

It all stems from when they were bought out and taken over several years ago. The change was noticeable and rapid.

Literally the only thing that is still any good is their baguettes.

We now shop at a combination of Sainsburys and Aldi, and I avoid going into Morrisons at all if I can help it.

I use scan and go. You may not know what it is it's a highly technical system which allows you to scan your shop as you go saving time and ease of paying. Another thing morrisons does fantastically well.

callthecattlehome · 06/09/2024 21:15

No. Ours thinks everyone lives off fizzy drinks, alcohol, chocolate and grease. Very limited fresh or healthy stuff. I’ve had to travel to neighbouring towns to shop since our local grocery store became a Morrison’s. And it's expensive. No.

'The person is deluded who criticised their cheese, it's nicer than any farm shop I've ever brought cheese from'.
I think deluded is a bit harsh 😁. I did say it was a few years back. They used to do this awful thing where the mediocre quality factory cheeses were all in different coloured wax to pretend they were worth the extra they charged and the continental cheese selection was poor. If it's changed I'm happy to take a look!
