All the autumn "talk" is making me miserable.

I get it . It's supposed to be cool to have autumn as your favourite season.

But all the talk of autumn is making me feel stressed (weird I know).

Opened up a next link and it jumpers, boots shades of browns and autumn leaves. Instagram is pumpkins and decorating for autumn (who know that was a thing). Then something else and another and an another.

I'm happiest in summer and fell really sad that it's ending.

Anyone else feel the same?

I usually quite enjoy the beginning of autumn, but not this year when we haven’t had a proper summer!

frozendaisy · 03/09/2024 17:50

It might end up being a wet, drag limp into winter who knows?

I think people just like to out "twee" each other with talk of crunching leaves and collecting damsons or whatever it is. Sentimental claptrap.

mushpush · 03/09/2024 18:06

I don't think it's "cool" to have autumn as your favourite season, it's just seeming popular right now because it's around the corner.

Take joy that next year, when you're gearing up for your favourite season of summer - the autumn lovers will be feeling the way you are now 😂

Imnotarestaurant · 03/09/2024 18:07

I’m the same- not ready for getting up in the dark and coats and boots .

mondaytosunday · 03/09/2024 18:10

No. Im in the Autumn lover camp. I'm not sure why though as I hated school!

LancsLass1 · 03/09/2024 18:12

I guess everyone has their preferences for different times of year.

For me, the variability of the UK is one of the joys of living here, we don't have any one weather type for too long, and I like that.

Autumn is my favourite season, but I didn't know it was cool 😎

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 03/09/2024 18:20

Its not weird. Although I don't agree with you re Autumn, I totally get that it stresses you out and makes you down. I get like that about Christmas, panicky from mid October (not entirely unreasonable as it seems to start on 1 Nov). It seems like I'm the only one dreading it when everyone else loves it, in my circle anyhow. I'm not too keen on July or August either to be honest. I get sick of people thinking I'm being ridiculous disliking what I do, but then moaning about January and expecting me to sympathise. We all have different ways of seeing the world and different emotional reactions.

Blueybanditbingochilli · 03/09/2024 18:23

In the same way everyone imagines a ‘hot girl summer’ they’re imagining a ‘crispy leaves, jumper dress and boots autumn’.

Reality is it’ll piss with rain and be 15 degrees until June, when it will piss with rain and be 17 degrees.

Variability? Nothing variable about endless rain, grey skies and tepid weather.

We don’t really get proper seasons any more.

weAllWanttheBest · 03/09/2024 18:25

Hm, try to look up for yellow leave on trees and sushine coming through them. - the most paradise type on earth season, the Indian summer. Let's hope for it

Of course we get seasons, it's much warmer in summer than winter, things die in the autumn and grow again in the spring, crops are in season at certain times of year etc.

What you mean to say I think is the seasons are different to how they used to be because of climate change, and that is true.

Although it hasn't been 'endless rain and grey skies' where I am. It's been lovely and sunny today.

All I see is trees dying off for the winter.

I would argue we don’t. The last year here has been:

Halloween 2023 - around 12-15 degrees and rain
Christmas 2023 - around 11 degrees with cloudy skies and showers.
Easter 2024 - Around 13 degrees with showers and very windy.
Summer 2024 - total washout, a few days around 24 degrees but most cloudy or raining and around 20 degrees.

I haven’t seen a frost in about 2 years. I’m in the SW.

halava · 03/09/2024 18:33

It's all an illusion and clever marketing. Applies to all seasons. Anyway, I have my bingo card ready for the Autumn lovers out there -

Cosy
Snuggle
Sofa
Fire
Candles
Fairy lights
Hot choc
Crunchy leaves
Frost
Hallowe'en
Christmas

Chucked it down with rain here most of today. Although the sun is out now but it will be dark soon, so an hour of sunshine at best.

longdistanceclaraclara · 03/09/2024 18:36

I like autumn, if the weather is decent. Same as any season. Damp, grey and miserable is not for me.

Same. Love snow, love crisp cold weather, love any sunny weather. Just not fucking grey cloud and rain.

Not.
Fucking.
Rain.

TooMuchOfNothingIsJustAsTough · 03/09/2024 18:37

I don't think it's cool to love autumn anymore than it's cool to find summer glorious. People like what they like and when it's Autumn, people talk about Autumn just like they do about Summer when it's time.

I understand feeling horrible during Autumn or any particular season (for some people, theirs is Summer) but I'll say let people live and just avoid any threads discussing what you don't like.

The earth moves around the sun, and we have different amounts of daylight hours at different times of year. Things grow and things die. It is a cycle. That is what seasons are.

What you are saying is that there is less variety in the temperature and weather than there used to be, due to climate change. Not that we don't have seasons.

RandomUsernameHere · 03/09/2024 18:42

Completely agree, I hate autumn. It means winter is coming and it's a long time until summer again! I do love Halloween though.

Happierthaneverr · 03/09/2024 18:44

You are just being marketed too, businesses are grasping hard onto seasonal changes to prompt you to spend money unnecessarily. In this instance to feel ‘cosy’. But yes generally the weather has been shite and all the seasons merge a bit. This is how Next want to part you from your money based on calendar dates.

Runmybathforme · 03/09/2024 18:48

I hate it, we’ve had no summer. I love wearing pretty summer dresses, hate wearing jeans and boots. We’ve going on holiday next week and have a big holiday planned for February, it’s the only way we can face all those dreary, grey days.

ijustneedtokeepbreathing · 03/09/2024 18:57

I normally really enjoy Autumn, for all kinds of reasons. However, this year feels different and that's probably to do with the total absence of summer. Also, I have really enjoyed the school summer hols.

So, I hear you!

Drinkandthink · 03/09/2024 18:57

I've always genuinely loved autumn, way before all the Instagram love for it. I don't decorate for it though - just like the time of year! I like winter too. Not a fan of March to June but July and August are nice.

However - since having had a child I now see autumn and winter slightly differently. Everything is a bit easier in the summer months with a young child!

Yep, I suffer from SAD and utterly hate this time of year.
