Baby having its nappy changed in the middle of a cafe. 🤮 I didn't think it actually happened! This is the same cafe that also has signs in the toilets, to remind people that toilet roll goes in the toilet, not the bin. This is on a University campus of a well respected university!

Oh get over yourself. People are trying their best...

KreedKafer · 29/08/2024 17:25

A former classmate of mine had a massive rant on Facebook because her local Costa wouldn't let her change her child's nappy on the table. She said 'I even offered to give it a wipe down for them afterwards' as if that somehow made it OK.

I do find it very odd that some people (including a lot of Mumsnetters) seem to think that piss and shit that come out of a baby are somehow different to, and less gross than, piss and shit that emerge from an adult. "Oh, it's only a wee!" always seems odd to me. I don't want to see your baby's piss-drenched nappy while I'm eating any more than I want to see an adult's piss-drenched bog roll, thanks.

Anonymouslyposting · 29/08/2024 17:27

Tbh, if it was just a wet nappy rather than a dirty one and the baby was changed in the buggy rather than any cafe surfaces I really couldn’t get worked up about this. I probably wouldn’t do it myself as I am aware others can be sensitive about it but personally I have no problem at all with it.

Not only are they disgusting, they’ll be putting their gross pissy or shitty hands everywhere as well 🤢

Why DO people hand dog poo bags on trees? Or chuck them into the undergrowth? It would be better to push the poo off the path and let it biodegrade, surely.

It's so weird to me.

What the fuck has that to do with anything?

PoopedAndScooped · 29/08/2024 17:30

Newsenmum · 29/08/2024 15:06

eh, not ideal I agree

So not a smelly poo! Just a wet nappy , changed in the child’s pushchair

I dont see the big deal at all

How did you see everything? You were obviously looking

HolyPeaches · 29/08/2024 17:30

Toddlerteaplease · 29/08/2024 15:06

Think it was just wet. I saw everything!

Why were you looking?

Was the baby directly infront of you?

Moveoverdarlin · 29/08/2024 17:30

A mother changing a wet nappy in the child’s pushchair in a cafe just wouldn’t bother me. Seeing everything also wouldn’t bother me. It’s a baby. My nappy changing skills were of ninja quality and I could whip one off and put a clean one on far quicker than going to a rancid toilet with one of those gross baby changing fold down things.

And you think people wash their hands in the toilet? ALOT od people dont

KreedKafer · 29/08/2024 17:37

We were all in nappies at one point, and will no doubt return to them in time

Probably. But I bet everyone here claiming it's fine to be changing nappies in a cafe would be utterly repulsed if they had to see a dementia patient's used incontinence pad or a catheter bag while they were having lunch. Not sure why a nappy full of baby urine is somehow any less gross than that. It's all human piss. It's all the same.

Survivingnotthriving24 · 29/08/2024 15:43

A quick nappy change in the pram doesn't offend me in the absence of proper facilities if the parents do what they can to safeguard the child. What I do find more shocking is how some parents have absolutely no respect for their child's privacy/dignity. No way would I be allowing the general public to see my child's genitals. The only people I'll change my child in front of is people I'd allow to look after/change them (pretty much only our parents and siblings).

It's so common now to see nappies changed in a public place- incredibly inappropriate, anyone could be filming it.

People say ''it's only a little bottom'' but no one should be showing their child's genitals in public, not with the use of recording devices and the amount of creeps about.

wldpwr · 29/08/2024 17:38

Wet nappy wouldn't bother me at all (in fact, I've done this on numerous occasions - not on the table but quickly slipping one pull-up off and putting another on while DC stands on a chair).

Shitty nappy is clearly a bathroom situation.

Icanttakethisanymore · 29/08/2024 17:40

id have no issue with this if it was done in a pram and not shitty.

Storytimetime · 29/08/2024 17:43

Wee nappy in a pushchair. Wouldn’t bother me one bit.

DysonSphere · 29/08/2024 17:43

WheresMySupportCat · 29/08/2024 15:07

Okay- I have told this story before and i am willingly telling it again.

I'm in England. My older Ds is now 14. When he was a newborn and I was still on mat leave I went to all the baby groups because basically I was insecure and thought you had to to be a proper engaged mother. (Did not bother with Ds2).

Anyway - there was a Queen Bee mother at the baby groups who was very keen to point out smugly just how much she was better at everything parenting to all of us plebs. (For example, DS1 has severe autism and developmental delay and did not talk until he was around 5 years old and she would tut at me and say 'you should try talking to him- that will help') .

Once we were all at our local breakfast diner and she plonked her DS onto the table and changed his shit filled nappy right there, in amongst our eggs and beans.

I judged hard. Real hard. And that was when I realised she was like the rest of us- doing her best but fucking it up occasionally.

Dear lord return and save us!😮

BlackSwan · 29/08/2024 17:45

I saw someone change a baby's nappy right next to the fruit vines at a pick your own farm a couple of weeks ago. Really disgusting.

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 29/08/2024 17:47

My MiL was an absolute whizz at changing a nappy on her lap. She'd have wet one off, cleaned up, and dry one on in the blink of an eye.

Then she'd go wash her hands.

Haggia · 29/08/2024 17:48

Utterly inappropriate and unhygienic in a place where food is being consumed.

Imagine a wheelchair bound octogenarian having their incontinence pad changed in a cafe. There would be an outrage.

WheresMySupportCat · 29/08/2024 17:49

Jennyathemall · 29/08/2024 17:29

What the fuck has that to do with anything?

because a PP talked about shitty dog poo bags. It's a chat forum. I was asking a question because the subject was raised.

is that okay by you? What a strangely aggressive response.

menopause59 · 29/08/2024 17:50

I fail to see what the issue is here

IdaClair · 29/08/2024 17:51

I’ve never changed a nappy in a pram, pushchair or car, but I have used some weird and wonderful places. However, always as private as is possible, always away from other people, and never ever in the service area of a cafe or around food!

Done a ridiculous amount of changes outside on grass, moss and heather though. And tons on the floor of a loo/cubicle.

MovingBird123 · 29/08/2024 17:54

What's wrong with this? You know the fruit isn't clean when you pick it, right?

angsty · 29/08/2024 17:57

Don't visit China. Maybe it has changed, but when I was there, admittedly over 20 years ago, toddlers did not have nappies but ran around with a special hole in their pants for both pee and poo to just fall through straight onto the pavement. I saw it happen on numerus occasions.

Doesn't mean to say anyone wants to be exposed to some kid's shite while they're picking, though... I think that's rank.
