Baby having its nappy changed in the middle of a cafe. 🤮 I didn't think it actually happened! This is the same cafe that also has signs in the toilets, to remind people that toilet roll goes in the toilet, not the bin. This is on a University campus of a well respected university!

I don't see anything wrong tbh. The pram is probably a lot cleaner and more comfortable than public bathrooms. You didn't have to look.

The public loo might seem less clean and less comfortable because most people deal with piss and shit in the designated place for dealing with piss and shit. I don't care if it's baby piss. Outside of emergencies or difficult situations like those mentioned by a couple of PPs, when you're dealing with piss or shit, you go where everyone else goes for dealing with piss and shit.

AnonyMoi · 29/08/2024 16:25

Am I the only one who thinks that getting offended by little people (and their needs) in the public space IS the root of many of our problems?
I mean, we're not talking about spreading infant excrements troughout the table: it was a change of a nappy in their pushchair, FFS!
Edited to add: some public loos are the LAST place you'd want a tiny human being to even be close to.

Hottogo1 · 29/08/2024 16:25

When I was much younger I spent the day with my friends family. Friend had a baby sister. Friends mum took us to McDonald’s and proceeded to lay baby down on the table we were eating at and change a shitty nappy in full view of everyone. I was a child at the time and was utterly disgusted and still am all these years later!!

I changed a nappy on a table in a (closed!) restaurant this week. We'd stopped for a quick drink in the beer garden of an old fashioned pub on a sunny afternoon, not realising they didn't have baby change facilities (nor space in the tiny toilets to put the change mat on the floor).

The very kind young Man behind the bar directed me to the closed restaurant, and then hovered at a safe distance with a bottle of sanitizer and a blue roll.

Had the restaurant been open I'd have taken the baby to the car and done a back seat change though!

missjeanbrodie123 · 29/08/2024 16:27

just as bad are parents who sit their bare bottomed toddlers on cafe counters 🤢

I get the toilet roll message in a University campus as they will have international
students and in some countries you can only put toilet roll in the bin.

eh, not ideal I agree

For goodness sake it's a baby or at most a toddler.

Do people not let toddlers run around in the altogether at home or, under close supervision on a beach ant more?

Nagatha · 29/08/2024 16:29

I’ve done it on a couple of occasions where it turned out there was no baby change are and the toilets were tiny. Just in the corner, on the floor (with changing Matt). I have done it on a bench seat (again with changing Matt) when it was just a wet nappy.
I’m not sorry

MamofCats · 29/08/2024 16:30

I've seen being done on a table in a dobies garden centre cafe .

HighlandCow78 · 29/08/2024 16:33

I found a dirty rolled up nappy under a cafe table a few weeks ago - some people are just revolting! Should be ashamed of themselves

Elbone · 29/08/2024 16:33

Kitkat1523 · 29/08/2024 15:41

Agree with this

Yep. Me too.

Oganesson118 · 29/08/2024 16:33

Hmm, a wet nappy quickly changed in the pushchair, it's not the best but I could get over it. Did she have other kids with her or some other reason?

A stinky pooey nappy on the table would be unacceptable - obvious reasons!

I am sorry but it would be a car boot change all the way for me in this situation. That is not appropriate in the slightest, restaurant furniture that paying customers must eat off are not changing tables no matter how much anti-bac spray the waiter used.

This is the same cafe that also has signs in the toilets, to remind people that toilet roll goes in the toilet, not the bin.

Universities have very diverse populations, and it's normal to have signs in their toilets about what can/can't be flushed, not squatting, using hands rather than feet to flush etc because toilets vary across the world.

Have you really never travelled to somewhere where the loo roll goes in the bin?

Toddlerteaplease · 29/08/2024 16:36

I'm not offended by the sight of a nappy being changed. I just think there are places you don't do of. And a cafe is one of them. Wet/ dirty or otherwise.

Delphiniumandlupins · 29/08/2024 16:37

I think honestly when you feel knee-deep in nappies sometimes you forget that the rest of the world isn't living similarly. You may never use a bathroom to change them at home and when you're out and about you're just looking for the easiest (fastest, cleanest) option.

Changing a pooey nappy on a plane fold-down table is grim but airplane toilets are incredibly small. If your child poos when the 'fasten seat belts' sign is lit everyone around may be suffering the effects. If the toilet is busy or at the other end of the plane maybe a quick change at your seat seems like the least inconvenience?

Changing any kind of nappy where people are eating and drinking is unacceptable!

Well we are all different….doesn’t make a quick wet nappy change in a pram wrong tho just cos you don’t think it’s ok

ttcat37 · 29/08/2024 16:38

I couldn’t get mad about a wet nappy in a pram. Everyone is trying their best with a baby. The baby changing facility is often filthy. I regularly change my baby in the boot of the car for this reason.

BubziOwl · 29/08/2024 16:39

It's not something I would do, and I agree it's not good etiquette or whatever... but I can't say that it would actually bother me. As long as it's not poo ie no smell, I can just look away🤷‍♀️

whichwayisup · 29/08/2024 16:39

What do you mean you saw everything? Do you mean you saw a baby's bottom? Is this what you are disgusted by or is this what we're all supposed to be wtaf about? Was it the sight of a baby's bottom in a well respected university? Did the baby have a urine infection so the honk was unbearable? I mean a wee baby pee pee nappy? Really, this is stuff of mumsnet myths and legends?????

Surely I'm getting the wrong idea here but have I missed a meeting where it's been decided that a nappy change in public is a safeguarding issue? No, ridiculous, surely that's ridiculous, nobody would think that.

I mean poo nappy on cafe table is revolting but a quick wee nappy change on a stroller in a cafe? I'm totally and utterly confused. Can someone please tell me what I'm supposed to be disgusted by?????

This is true - I remember at my uni there being signs specifically instructing you how to sit on the toilet!

Zapx · 29/08/2024 16:40

I’ve changed a wet nappy in a buggy multiple times, easiest with pull ups I find!
Lie buggy back, trousers off, pull up nappy nearly all way, whip old nappy off, pull up nappy rest of the way, trousers back on, job done. Is it really such an issue? It’s normally when I’m on a day time trip somewhere and tbh I find it more hygienic!

Magazinerack · 29/08/2024 16:40

Not as unhygienic as dogs in cafes 🤷‍♀️
