Have NC because I freely admit that I have (limited) skin in this game, I am not entirely neutral.

This tells the story of the rift better than I could video here more about JB here JB info

Have worked for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in the UK, they are ...erm not my favourite slebs to work with. BL can be nasty to staff, her I'm all for women thing would be great, if she wasn't awful to them in reality. RR sometimes apologetically, always sides with BL, as his wife.
However, she does have 4 young DCs, so has spent much of the last decade pregnant, or post partum, which is enough to make anyone tired and therefore appear 'difficult'.

As I am senior in my role, stars have to treat me with some decency. Even so, the mask slips, I do everything I can to make their time in the UK as comfortable as possible, whilst placating the staff they upset, I will not work with them if I can avoid it.

Justin Baldoni directed It Ends With Us, I do not know JB.

Anti JB side (note there isn't much information about what JB has done wrong):
• He was difficult on set.
• He was acting and directing, diluting his ability to do both.
• He has hired a the firm of PR crisis manager who helped to improve Johnny Depp's image during the Amber Heard trial.
• JB has a pro 'good' men podcast called Man Enough, largely it is positive. Unfortunately he had Drake Bell on the podcast and did not question his accountability for previous SA.

Anti BL side:
• BL is trying to give the film a Barbie moment, encouraging audiences, for a film about DV, to wear florals.
• BL has objected to two things; she says JB fat-shamed her on set and, in one scene kissed her for too long (no suggestion that the kiss itself was inappropriate e.g. tongue).
• BL & RR made a cut of the film, which emphasises the rom-com of the story, rather than the DV.
• BL has corralled the author, Colleen Hoover and the cast to 'unfollow' JB on social media.
• RR rewrote a scene for the film without being asked by the director in doing so, RR broke the writer's strike.
• The cast have not been doing any press or standing on the red carpet at the premieres with JB.
• BL is using the film promo to also promote her new hair brand.

It may be that JB was a massive a-hole, or it may be that BL was a 'mean girl' and used her considerable power to influence the rest of the cast to be unpleasant to JB.
The truth could lie somewhere in the middle.

This is everything I know, I did not work on the film, or the promotion of it, so far.
I am able to agree that I have direct experience of seeing what BL and RR are like IRL, whereas I do not have the same experience of JB.
I'm prepared to accept that JB is the villain here.
I do not have any further information about this situation, if any comes my way I will, without breaking my contractual obligations, write about it here.

What did Jennifer Lawrence do?

Just a bit of a brat by all accounts. All the clumsy falling-over-on-the-red-carpet, telling everyone how she can’t wait to have a McDonalds etc, was apparently a slickly executed PR strategy to make her seem down to earth and relatable. Interestingly, the cutesy clumsiness stopped abruptly when other celebrities started to make fun of it… I think it was a bit of an open secret and they were getting sick of it.

I remember her presenting an award a few years ago and she let the mask slip a bit. Reportedly was very unpleasant backstage and was on the verge of a tantrum when she went on to present, was very snide about Joanna Lumley.

Catnope · 16/08/2024 16:02

But she doesn’t have “bad” plastic surgery. People only comment on men when it’s “bad”; they comment on women when it’s bad and when it’s good and use it as an argument that they somehow don’t deserve their career (if they don’t like her). The comments about BL having surgery are implying that getting it done was immoral and makes her less worthy.

Plus, I don’t think you could name an actress who hasn’t had something “done”.

It’s one thing to comment on what she says and how she acts - sure. But don’t say she doesn’t deserve her success because her face “isn’t her own”. I think that’s where this conversation gets a bit gross.

I never said anything about her not 'deserving' her success, and specifically pointed out that the work she's had is excellent, and good for her.

And if people are determined to make this into a 'misogyny' discussion, there used to be lots of talk about Tom Cruise's excellent 'work' before he clearly went overboard with the fillers a few years ago.

Nanana1 · 16/08/2024 16:15

@nuttyroche2

you don’t understand why you wouldn’t broadcast to the world that you’ve had a nose job or botox?

When there are photos/films of your old face or you’re 90 with no wrinkles I think it’s pointless to deny, no one is buying it.

i’ve had the latter and would look you in the eye and deny. My body. My business

I don’t think the general public care much about that.

Falling over as PR strategy? What a load of bollocks.

Yes, Ryan Gosling went viral for his filler recently.

Ryan Gosling has an awful nose job but I like him.

Twistybranch · 16/08/2024 16:18

Oh no, why would Ryan to that to his face? At least it dissolves

TheOnlyCherryOnMyTree · 16/08/2024 16:18

To me a lot of this feels like smacking down a beautiful, successful woman and making sure she doesn't get too full of herself.

OnAndOnAndonAgain · 16/08/2024 16:18

Twistybranch · 16/08/2024 15:58

Always thought something was going on and she was quick to have all those kids too.

Scarlett is the most beautiful woman.

Don't get this, their first child was born in 2014 4 years after RR and SJ split up. The other children were born in 2016, 2019 and 2023

Actually SJ first child was born in 2014 too so none of it seems all that quick to me

Blake was young when she got married and from starting their relationship to engagement…. To marriage…to baby…that was three years. That’s not a long time. And not really something a young actress would usually do.

BL did not start her career by being plucked from obscurity, her father and all of her four siblings, are actors.

Blake's father, Ernie Lively, was a bit-part actor. His typical roles include 'man at airport' and 'motel clerk'.

Everyoneesleistheproblem · 16/08/2024 16:26

This is just marketing surely.

All publicity is good publicity.

She was 27/28, SJ is only 3 years older than her. It's hardly young

FeetupTvon · 16/08/2024 16:30

I personally am totally disinterested in them and the film.

Doesn’t make it a PR strategy. Some people are just clumsy.

"Besides, isn't the trope of women having to be nice to everyone, all the time, something we have to stop expecting?"

Just not from Blake Lively by the sounds of it 😬

Cabincrew1 · 16/08/2024 16:34

I watched the 2016 interview yesterday and although I didn’t have an opinion on lively either way, now I think she’s a horrible entitled bitch as I suspect a lot of Hollywood are. I was more disappointed at Parker posey as I’ve admired her work since the 90s, so petty and mean and that horrible face she pulled at the end, so unprofessional.

It feels a bit "I want to tell a bunch of Mums about my Very Significant Job under the guise of sharing sleb gossip" to me.

Too many people to reply to.
When she was younger, Taylor Swift was a dream to work with.
Now, TS is surrounded by her people, which invariably changes things.

It reminds me very much of late 80s Madonna to big, global, fame Madonna. I have only worked with Madonna since the early 00s, by which time the machine surrounding her was huge and she became understandably guarded.
The Spice Girls were a similar story.

IMO it is important to note that TS does make an effort to learn names, remember you, speak to people politely.
However, she is no longer the sweet, down to earth girl she once was. Of course she isn't. Now she has millions, if not billions, of fans. TS could work all day, every day and it could never satisfy everyone.

It is inevitable that a woman (particularly a woman), who grew up in the industry, and has sometimes been treated abysmally, would employ people as a first defence.

To any TS fans, I would say this: Tree Paine is one of the best PR people in the business. Anything you read or watch which comes from larger sources e.g. People magazine, has been put there by TP.

Go back to anything TS pre 2015, when TP had started to run her publicity. (TP started to work for TS in 2014).
Look at the anomalies, e.g. TS's treatment of younger female artists, her payments to Eras tour workers vs what else was happening in the entertainment industry at the time.
Who does TS surround herself with socially?
What is the political situation in America?
Read her lyrics.
It's all there.

FWIW I liked TS before, in person I like her now. However, she did not become a billionaire by being nice.

Besides, isn't the trope of women having to be nice to everyone, all the time, something we have to stop expecting? We do not expect it from male artists and I know many male artists who started out as a-holes and only got worse.

Taylors PR hasn't been great though since she exploded in popularity following the Eras tour going viral on tiktok. She does of course have fans who would defend her for absolutely anything, which imo makes a huge difference.

Twistybranch · 16/08/2024 16:39

Good article, this sums it up:

Lively’s critics pointed out the disconnect between Lively framing her movie like a celebratory girls’ night and the actual content, in which a woman experiences violence from her romantic partner. Wearing florals and rounding up the girlies to watch a woman get physically abused by her partner seems, at best, a strange missing of the point and at worst, extremely insensitive or out of touch with the subject of her movie. Either Lively doesn’t fully comprehend the subject of the movie she made or she does and is capitalizing on it to sell her wares anyway.
