Blake Lively, RR & It Ends With Us drama

Have NC because I freely admit that I have (limited) skin in this game, I am not entirely neutral.

This tells the story of the rift better than I could video here more about JB here JB info

Have worked for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in the UK, they are ...erm not my favourite slebs to work with. BL can be nasty to staff, her I'm all for women thing would be great, if she wasn't awful to them in reality. RR sometimes apologetically, always sides with BL, as his wife.
However, she does have 4 young DCs, so has spent much of the last decade pregnant, or post partum, which is enough to make anyone tired and therefore appear 'difficult'.

As I am senior in my role, stars have to treat me with some decency. Even so, the mask slips, I do everything I can to make their time in the UK as comfortable as possible, whilst placating the staff they upset, I will not work with them if I can avoid it.

Justin Baldoni directed It Ends With Us, I do not know JB.

Anti JB side (note there isn't much information about what JB has done wrong):
• He was difficult on set.
• He was acting and directing, diluting his ability to do both.
• He has hired a the firm of PR crisis manager who helped to improve Johnny Depp's image during the Amber Heard trial.
• JB has a pro 'good' men podcast called Man Enough, largely it is positive. Unfortunately he had Drake Bell on the podcast and did not question his accountability for previous SA.

Anti BL side:
• BL is trying to give the film a Barbie moment, encouraging audiences, for a film about DV, to wear florals.
• BL has objected to two things; she says JB fat-shamed her on set and, in one scene kissed her for too long (no suggestion that the kiss itself was inappropriate e.g. tongue).
• BL & RR made a cut of the film, which emphasises the rom-com of the story, rather than the DV.
• BL has corralled the author, Colleen Hoover and the cast to 'unfollow' JB on social media.
• RR rewrote a scene for the film without being asked by the director in doing so, RR broke the writer's strike.
• The cast have not been doing any press or standing on the red carpet at the premieres with JB.
• BL is using the film promo to also promote her new hair brand.

It may be that JB was a massive a-hole, or it may be that BL was a 'mean girl' and used her considerable power to influence the rest of the cast to be unpleasant to JB.
The truth could lie somewhere in the middle.

This is everything I know, I did not work on the film, or the promotion of it, so far.
I am able to agree that I have direct experience of seeing what BL and RR are like IRL, whereas I do not have the same experience of JB.
I'm prepared to accept that JB is the villain here.
I do not have any further information about this situation, if any comes my way I will, without breaking my contractual obligations, write about it here.

@nuttyroche2 who cares?

Nanana1 · 16/08/2024 14:29

I though Justin hired some people hence all the BL bad press?

Taylorontour · 16/08/2024 14:29

@notallbloom you can’t do that to me! Come on … spill! It’ll make me feel better about not being able to get tickets to her shows. 🤣

cloudsss · 16/08/2024 14:30

I only saw a short clip, but iirc RR took over BL’s interview and pretended to be a controlling husband, for a film that’s about domestic violence. How did either of their respective PR teams sign off on that?

I don’t mind BL and RR’s schtick usually,
but I think they’ve laid it all on way too thick and it’s just a mistake with the themes of the film.

FuckThePoPo · 16/08/2024 14:30

Blake's given me the hump ever since she's launched an alcohol line under her name

she doesn't even drink! Says it all really

BallerinaArm · 16/08/2024 14:30

Also this pic of Blake (and the rest of the SOTTP cast) at a Barbie Q&A last summer - imo her outfit is OTT for a film she doesn’t star in. It would have been more appropriate to tone it down and not try and outshine the actual star of the movie (aamerica).

She has had fantastic subtle work though & hasn’t gone overboard.

DreadPirateRobots · 16/08/2024 14:34

What gets me is the way that the film (and the novel) are being marketed essentially as a glossy aspirational romcom and not a story of abuse. There's nothing in the trailer, apart from a single longshot of BL's face with a cut, to indicate that it's not a standard meet-cute. Plus the nail polish and florals and bleh.

Irrationally I want to hope Baldoni isn't a douchebag as I used to love Jane the Virgin, but nothing would surprise me.

also anyone who names a florist "Lily Blossom Bloom" and an abusive character "RYLE" is a fucking hack, like way to make JK Rowling look subtle

Nanana1 · 16/08/2024 14:34

I like TS & she may not be that nice as she portrays but she is criticised a lot, tbh if I was that powerful & successful I would probably be a bit of a dick at times 😆

Taylorontour · 16/08/2024 14:34

@Nanana1 but even the self deprecating act he does is now beginning to give me the dreaded ick. I used to like the bants across their social media but I’m definitely off both of them. And it was the ‘wave’ in June that triggered it 🤦🏽‍♀️

IncompleteSenten · 16/08/2024 14:35

Famous people often have gigantic egos and a tendency to be massive twats. 🤷‍♀️. This is what happens when people fawn over someone. Goes to their head and creates a monster.

notallbloom · 16/08/2024 14:36

@nuttyroche2 my long career, and my clients, would disagree.
It is not unusual for clients to be difficult, or tricky, they are often tired.
It is unusual for them to be incredibly unpleasant to people working for them in entry-levels roles, to the point where people leave their jobs.

I have posted about this once, on this thread here. If there are other threads, I have not read them.

In general, my role is incredibly intense for 3 or 4 weeks I will work every day, then nothing for anything from days to weeks. It depends on the cycle.
As it happens, I do have DCs, however it is my understanding that you don't have to be a parent to post on MN.

You enjoy your day now.

She's always given mean girl vibes off, and I don't for one second believe that she and RR have the fairytale relationship that their PR generates.... but they do seem to have really pissed someone off with the amount of negative spin being put out about them.

GingerBeverage · 16/08/2024 14:39

You’re sure this whole drama isn’t a way of spinning interest in the film?
You think it’s authentic?

Thought has crossed my mind.

Nanana1 · 16/08/2024 14:41

why the need to come to mumsnet, when we know bugger all?

Using that logic most threads on here would be redundant!

crockofshite · 16/08/2024 14:45

I want to hear about TS

Only "most"? As little as that? 😁

WhatdoIdoooooo · 16/08/2024 14:47

Just watched the 2016 interview…very odd. It didn’t seem as though the interviewer had said anything wrong congratulating her on her bump, why on earth would she reply as she did? Then the energy she gave when the interviewer merely asked about costumes on set was awful, she was deliberately turning away to her co star and seemed incredibly bitchy/bullying, the interviewer looked so uncomfortable
All I can think is that she’d taken some offence about the baby bump? but how?!

WhatdoIdoooooo · 16/08/2024 14:47

@crockofshite What about Ts?

Twistybranch · 16/08/2024 14:49

It’s pretty low to change the direction of the film to be able to make it into Barbie moment of outfits and hype.

RR is out to make money, he bought Wrexham because it’s the easiest route into the EPL. Yet he tries to make out that’s shucks, he just a nice guy doing nice things for the lovely locals. It’s just a business deal like any other.

His act of trying to be the funny guy is tiresome and unfortunately it’s rubbed off on his wife.

He married BL very quickly after his marriage to Scarlett Johansen broke down.
