Blake Lively, RR & It Ends With Us drama

notallbloom · 16/08/2024 14:04

Have NC because I freely admit that I have (limited) skin in this game, I am not entirely neutral.

This tells the story of the rift better than I could video here more about JB here JB info

Have worked for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in the UK, they are ...erm not my favourite slebs to work with. BL can be nasty to staff, her I'm all for women thing would be great, if she wasn't awful to them in reality. RR sometimes apologetically, always sides with BL, as his wife.
However, she does have 4 young DCs, so has spent much of the last decade pregnant, or post partum, which is enough to make anyone tired and therefore appear 'difficult'.

As I am senior in my role, stars have to treat me with some decency. Even so, the mask slips, I do everything I can to make their time in the UK as comfortable as possible, whilst placating the staff they upset, I will not work with them if I can avoid it.

Justin Baldoni directed It Ends With Us, I do not know JB.

Anti JB side (note there isn't much information about what JB has done wrong):
• He was difficult on set.
• He was acting and directing, diluting his ability to do both.
• He has hired a the firm of PR crisis manager who helped to improve Johnny Depp's image during the Amber Heard trial.
• JB has a pro 'good' men podcast called Man Enough, largely it is positive. Unfortunately he had Drake Bell on the podcast and did not question his accountability for previous SA.

Anti BL side:
• BL is trying to give the film a Barbie moment, encouraging audiences, for a film about DV, to wear florals.
• BL has objected to two things; she says JB fat-shamed her on set and, in one scene kissed her for too long (no suggestion that the kiss itself was inappropriate e.g. tongue).
• BL & RR made a cut of the film, which emphasises the rom-com of the story, rather than the DV.
• BL has corralled the author, Colleen Hoover and the cast to 'unfollow' JB on social media.
• RR rewrote a scene for the film without being asked by the director in doing so, RR broke the writer's strike.
• The cast have not been doing any press or standing on the red carpet at the premieres with JB.
• BL is using the film promo to also promote her new hair brand.

It may be that JB was a massive a-hole, or it may be that BL was a 'mean girl' and used her considerable power to influence the rest of the cast to be unpleasant to JB.
The truth could lie somewhere in the middle.

This is everything I know, I did not work on the film, or the promotion of it, so far.
I am able to agree that I have direct experience of seeing what BL and RR are like IRL, whereas I do not have the same experience of JB.
I'm prepared to accept that JB is the villain here.
I do not have any further information about this situation, if any comes my way I will, without breaking my contractual obligations, write about it here.

@Megifer I am not a surgeon, a politician, or an inventor of clean energy supplies.
Nowhere have I claimed that my job is significant, that you do says far more about you than it does about me.

IRL, when meeting new parents, I am deliberately vague about my career, precisely because it is not nearly as significant as people believe.

The interviewer, where BL was offended by them congratulating her on her baby bump and BL retorted congratulations on yours……was unable to conceive. She was devastated.

But did BL know that? It just goes to show you shouldn't be commenting on other people's pregnancies because you never know what's going on, even if the person is pregnant

Probably more interesting than a lot of people's jobs though!

What on earth is wrong with congratulating someone on their pregnancy after it’s been announced? There’s no need to fat shame!

Exactly. I love a bit if showbiz gossip. So what?
@notallbloom on the TS nite, what's the real deal with her boyfriends? Are they all real? I can't believe her and Tom Hidfledton was anything ither than her obliging Tom's agent to try and get him more known in the US ( obviously it backfired. I understand him doing it but not TS if it was fake. And how many relationships are fake)

"He has hired a the firm of PR crisis manager who helped to improve Johnny Depp's image during the Amber Heard trial."

OP your posting this here immediately raised my suspicions that you are part of this crisis management. Happy to be wrong though.

This is quite common knowledge it’s been going around reddit for a few days

But Blake had already confirmed her pregnancy, hadn't she?

So congratulating her on it was just a nice gesture on the interviewer's part. It's not like she was speculating out loud.

@putyourhandsintheairok as with any thread you are welcome to read this, or not, add useful perspectives, if you don't like the thread you can scroll on past.

No I am not in the least bit concerned about being outed @Trox.

My impression is that JB's cut of the film had the grit @Remmy123, Colleen Hoover, BL and RR wanted to emphasise the romance.

@Nanana1 RR in particular is incredibly successful and powerful.

That will be the mask slip @SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament.

Then I won't tell you anything about Taylor Swift @Taylorontour.

Oh you're after useful perspectives? Sometimes it's helpful to say that in your OP rather than just a post a mind dump of stuff you've found out through work. HTH.

I agree. She was ~7 months pregnant in that interview, and the pregnancy was public. Saying "congrats on the pregnancy" is a very normal thing to do. And even if BL considered it a bit too familiar or whatever, it didn't warrant a rude response.
It's not like she was in the early stages, and the press was speculating, and the journalist was being presumptuous and trying to check her reaction by mentioning a pregnancy.

Nanana1 · 16/08/2024 17:52

@putyourhandsintheairok why are you so angry?

TwigletsAndRadishes · 16/08/2024 17:52

Do you know what? I don't give a shiny shit.

Actors get paid to make movies. It's their job. The only thing I require of them is to do decent job of it, so I don't waste my money. They don't all have to be Oscar material, just competent and watchable. If the movie looks good (and the lead actors involved don't irritate me for some reason) then I'll watch it. If the movie doesn't interest me, then I won't watch it.

I literally could not give a stuff how actors come across in interviews and whether or not they are 'mean' or 'fake' or 'dull' or anything else. I couldn't give a stuff about whether or not they are nice to work with, we all have annoying colleagues occasionally. I couldn't care less about anything they have to say, about anything, ever. Not their politics, not what they think about Gaza or Trump, or Trans, most definitely not whatever spats they are currently having with other actors. I don't care. I'm only amazed that so many people do seem to care so much. It's bizarre.

@VictorianScreenTime your final paragraph is, IMO close to the truth.
In a way though I think that, when you have achieved such a huge level of fame, you have to be the person people expect.

My apologies that I am not being more specific about TS, as I say, ignore the big PR pieces, look at what you really see and scratch the surface.
It is my belief that the real, kind TS is still with us. She is so famous, there are so very many people who want a piece of her, she has to have boundaries.

I don’t know how I feel about it all, to be honest.

The interview with Parker Posey was SO awkward. But I can see why opening an interview with, “Congratulations on your little bump!” might have been taken badly. Maybe she was feeling self conscious about her belly and had tried to disguise it (to be honest, I wouldn’t have been able to see that she was pregnant) and having the fact she had a bump pointed out at the start of her interview irked her. Why the need to give an unsolicited comment about another woman’s body? Why not just say, “congratulations, I’ve heard you are expecting!” or something that didn’t bring her body into it?

”Congratulations on your little bump!”

”Congratulations on YOUR little bump!” seemed to very much be making the “don’t comment on MY body if you don’t want me to comment on yours’” point. Albeit very impulsively and a little too aggressive! But perhaps it was the last straw in a long line of unsolicited body comments. I don’t happen to be someone who thinks pregnant women are fair game for physical appearance comments. Who knows, maybe she was worried her bump was too little and had been given some worrying news about baby’s growth.

Or maybe she wanted to talk about her work, and the film she seems to be very proud of.

Which explains why immediately following up the comment on Blake’s body with a comment about her character’s wardrobe irked her even more. Hence the, “would you ask the men about their costumes?” comment which made the interview even more awkward.

I think Parker Posey was just as rude and there was no need for the two of them to waffle on and on without giving the interviewer control of the interview. They were deliberately shutting her down and wasting her time slot. The lack of eye contact was very rude. But the interviewers face was also like stone, and I feel she has shown herself up too. Look at great interviews dealing with difficult celebs….Parky and the like. Or Beth Rigby handling difficult politicians with humour and confidence. If you’re going to make an unsolicited comment about a woman’s stomach, follow it up with a vacuous question about costumes, make no effort to steer the conversation, sit there with a face like a slapped arse and then put it all on the internet with the tagline, “The Blake Lively Interview that Made Me Want To Quit My Job”…maybe interviewing ego driven celebs isn’t for you?

The Blake Lively/Anna Kendrick interview with the same Journalist, was very difficult to watch. I’m neurodivergent and due Anna Kendrick’s blank faced sarcasm and her never giving a straight answer, then Blake joining in with the ruse, I found it very difficult to take in. They deliberately made it awkward and it was rude of both of them. Obviously some sort of exclusionary Mean Girls inside jokes going on, which was unprofessional and disrespectful to the interviewer.

Honestly, (bearing in mind that I am neurodivergent here), it came across to me that all four of the women involved in these interviews have atrocious social skills. Three of them being determined to exclude and alienate and one of them enabling others to stop her doing her job. I’ve had to fight all my life to be included…there are skills you can learn and working in such a tough industry you need a very thick skin.

With regard to TS, I recognise a lot of myself in her when I watch her longer interviews and some candid videos online of her interacting with fans. I know armchair diagnosis is frowned upon on MN but I would bet a large sum of money on her being AuDHD. It takes one to know one, often. Her “rude” interactions look a heck of a lot like being caught off guard in an unmasked moment or not having a script for certain situations. Her “diva tantrums” look like meltdowns to me. Obviously my opinion only. But it’s a pretty strong conviction that I hold.

This is an interesting take, a lot of neurodivergent people can spot it in others clear as day. I can't say I've seen much of TS but will look out for it ic I fo ever watch her. Similarly, I recently found out that Brad Pitt has face blindness and that's probably why a lot of people find him rude, he just doesnt always recognise people.

notallbloom · 16/08/2024 17:57

@Birdsrule I agree that she will definitely work again, of course she will.

You are correct, we all have our off days.

I'm unsure how much of JB's new PR, my understanding is that he only employed them recently, is putting out negative stuff about BL. It may be that his PR team are focused on portraying him positively and the media are doing the rest wrt BL.

@putyourhandsintheairok perhaps anger was the wrong word then. But it’s pretty odd to engage in a thread that continues to baffle you. None of these threads are obligatory 😆

Nanny0gg · 16/08/2024 17:58

@LuluBlakey1 I am uninterested in the film or in Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. I don't care at all about any of it.

So why did you post the entire OP to tell us all you don't care?

(Which I would think most of us don't care about)

Crunchymum · 16/08/2024 18:01

@notallbloom totally unrelated to this thread (I'm still on the fence, although the older interviews aren't great at all) but would you consider doing an AMA?

If you aren't bound by confidentiality then I'm sure lots of posters would be interested in the "best" and "worst" people you've worked with

#nosey

Josette77 · 16/08/2024 18:01

OP, I agree.

I've also heard RR can be a bit of a prick to her.

Have you ever worked with Brad Pitt or Angelina?

I'm curious because I have and I know at one point he was drunk and angry all the time, and she was just over it. She was very warm though. Genuinely warm.

Nanny0gg · 16/08/2024 18:01

LuluBlakey1 · 16/08/2024 16:48

Because I am so sick of media stories and threads about celebrities. I don't understand anyone being interested in them at all- either in their lives, behaviours, what they wear/say/do, in following them on social media. I think people who are and do are sad and mindless and easily taken in by what is always just PR to make them ridiculous sums of money. It's pathetic. We should ignore them completely, not read the stuff, not comment on their social media or on newspaper or online articles about them, nit like photos. Just ignore them and, hopefully, the media would stop reporting this rubbish.

They have been reported upon since the days of silent movies.

It won't change
