MN has spoken, fascinators are awful, wide headbands are OK, your thoughts on this one please

I am soon to be going to my first wedding in many a year. Will be full of young slim fashionable types. I am none of these things, being almost 50, overweight and a bit of a slob.

MN has decreed fascinators at weddings are bad. A thick headband is acceptable.

Genuine thoughts on this one please, be as brutal as you like. Maybe with a kindly offered link to anything better. Thanks.

The dress is stunning op! LOVE. Not sure re the headband, is it necessary? Can you get your hair blowdried the morning of and go without?

Oh I'm pleased you like the dress! I never wear them, they don't really suit me.
I could ask my hairdresser to come over on the morning and do something with my hair. I usually just blast it with a hairdryer and that's good enough.

It’s sold now. Hopefully to the OP…

beachwalking · 10/08/2024 22:10

Well it's sold out now because....

I just ordered it. I figure it's worth a try anyway.

Thanks everyone! Maybe I'll be brave and post a pic when it arrives.

I didn't wear a hat headband or fascinator as the mother of a bride recently! Don't do hats and have very very short hair so would have looked stupid in a headband! OP that dress is gorgeous and with the right shoes (comfort is key) and bag you'll smash it.

PaminaMozart · 10/08/2024 22:15

Both are lovely.

See if she can make you one in turquoise to match the detail on the dress.

Edit: just seen you got the black. That'll be fine too!

ssd · 10/08/2024 22:23

Thats really nice

ssd · 10/08/2024 22:24

Gorgeous dress too

Pettyhangingbaskets · 10/08/2024 22:25

Wear what you want, I’m too old to give a f*ck what some randoms on mn think

pictoosh · 10/08/2024 22:27

Don't like the headband sorry. I don't like fascinators either mind. Very fussy and silly imo.
Your dress is gorgeous.

But this too of course. Wear what YOU like.

Hohofortherobbers · 10/08/2024 22:29

Dress is lovely, don't like the headband. Would prefer a fascinator

FrogNToad · 10/08/2024 22:29

They are both lovely, great finds. I agree, you will look great in that outfit 🙂

youcancallmebabefortheweekend · 10/08/2024 22:33

I hate fascinations. I remember that when I first arrived in the UK as a little kid I used to wonder why women wear those weird UFOs on their heads. I still don’t get the point of them!

I think both are lovely. Remember if you feel positive it will shine through. I speak as 5ft nothing nearly fifty year old with a beach ball physique.

RedZin · 10/08/2024 22:36

Glad you’ve gone for it, it’s a lovely headband! But I may be biased as I have it in black and wore it to Ascot in June! Same reasons as you for getting it, not a fan of fascinators and found this a flattering alternative.

gano · 10/08/2024 22:39

I love your dress and the head piece. You'll look gorgeous OP.

beachwalking · 10/08/2024 22:40

Thanks everyone. Appreciate all the comments.

Just for the record, I don't care what a bunch of strangers on MN think, but I do care what people at the wedding will think. It's hard enough being an overweight menopausal lady with no fashion sense going to a wedding full of young slim trendy people. I will be far out of my comfort zone and it will help my confidence if I feel I look as presentable as possible. And if I'm the only one with a shower puff on my head I will feel like a bit of a twit. So any words of guidance from the wider public are very helpful and much appreciated.

Not that I have to explain myself to anyone 😉

That is lovely. Don't forget a buttonhole

Whynottrythis · 10/08/2024 22:41

I love the head piece and the dress. But you really don't have to wear anything on your head - I've been to loads of weddings and the majority of the guests haven't worn anything. To my sadness, as I'd love to wear a huge posh hat!

Crispynoodle · 10/08/2024 22:43

It's lush buy immediately

Marcipex · 10/08/2024 23:14

Love the dress but it’s quite boho and the headband is very formal.
I don’t think they go together.
Can you have a nice bouncy blow dry and not have any headgear?

sillylittlerabbit · 10/08/2024 23:16

Adore and perfect with the dress!

YellowAsteroid · 11/08/2024 01:15

Wide headbands are as naff as fascinators. Just wear a proper hat. It’s not rocket science!

MeYouAndAQuestion · 11/08/2024 01:34

I don't like fascinators but I like that band and I like the dress too. You will look lovely.
