What odd fads did you have at school?

As a teenager a popular girl got a short haircut but had a lock of longer hair at the nape of her neck. Everyone started to copy it and it was a crazy fad for a while.

I've googled to add a picture but couldn't find anything close to it.

We also had a fad for wearing one blue sock. God knows why.

Anyone remember any fads?

Grolsch tops on shoes was a Bros thing wasn't it?

Robbed from punks, when Bros were still a punk band!

Haha I'm a good 100 or so miles away but at least it wasn't just my school. How are the brows now?

Mostly grown back, but somewhat unruly, thanks!

I used to want that bob with the tail thing. My hair was so fine I never managed it, and my hairdresser just did what he liked as I was a child! Lol.

I also remember patterned or black waistcoats being a thing in the late 80s. I wore that in year six with pride. Despite looking like I'd stolen a snooker players clothing. Along with light pink lipstick to copy Wendy James?!

In my primary school there was a trend for collecting beads, and putting them on safety pins. Then thread the safety pins onto elastic? But noone ever actually wore them, just made them and showed them off?!

Pop swatch watches were massive in about 1990. I remember being so chuffed I had one with planets instead of numbers with a luminous yellow see through trim.

Also global hypercolour t shirts that changed colour when you sweated.

In early secondary school it was all about using sun-in to try and bleach your hair. Never quite worked though?!

I totally had a waistcoat, paisley patterned. And a Pop Swatch... I was very proud of it because my Dad got it abroad so nobody else had the same design ( hideous)
And Sun in... My hair looked a bit ginger with it!

I had 'the' perm which was moussed and sprayed so much to look constantly wet. With the front bump fringe!

We also had a lumber jack shirt phase, the baggier the better.

And the kicker where I got the nasty green version, Joe Bloggs jeans! Basically black wide leg jeans but the bum pockets were a different colour. You HAD to have more than one pair, sadly, I did not.

I remember leading a sit down protest in the playground for girls to wear trousers. I was so not the cool kid but I gained a brownie point or two for that, especially when we won!

@Onacuctustree haha, glad I'm not the only one! Sun in made my hair go green at one point lol. My mum finally succumbed to allowing me bleach at 14. With disastrous results I might add! 🤣
