I can't believe it's less than a week ago and events show that was a bullshit excuse as we all know. But its still far right misinformation. There was no machete and the man involved was a mixed race EDL supporter.

I think its lazy to blame this on any one person, i do however think he has been an enabler to people saying what they have been thinking. In general there has been a suppression and shouting down on lots of topics where an honest discussion may have helped. Ive been on a lot of the recent threads on the topic of riots and so many posts are just shouting racist and swearing at every turn rather than listening to what people are saying.

Suppression of discussion is not the way to resolve conflict, well unless living in N. Korea.

When it's reported by an actual journalist I'll believe it. Until then I don't trust youtube/twatter/tiktok because they are full of misinformation.

goldthumb has linked some videos of men of indeterminate race wearing balaclavas from sky, alongside a twitter commentator asserting they are Muslims on the basis of fuck all, and a Laurence Fox video.

They are not trustworthy sources and people should be very careful at the moment as misinformation is everywhere.

Saying I'm wary of misinformation is nothing like saying anything is justified.

The Police have been tweeting as they've made arrests.

They confirmed the arrest of the man with the flick knife. Reported at 6.50 and arrested by 6.55 so speedy response.

Presumably they would have confirmed report and/or arrest of the man with a machete.

We have arrested a man and seized a flick knife following an incident in Southport this evening (Tuesday 30 July).

A report was received at 6.50pm that a man had been seen with a knife on Eastbank Street.

Officers attended and a man was detained at around 6.55pm, and a flick knife recovered.

There are no reports anyone was injured during the incident.

My interpretation was the far right "protestors" and counter protestor were in an uneasy stand off but then the far right kicked off because some Muslims said allahu akbar.
