And @GoldThumb I'll tell you what kicked it off in Southport. A concerted action by the far Right that has additionally attracted every random yob who doesn't have to go too far who fancies a bit of looting. An action designed to spread hatred and fear through our communities and create discord.

It is foul and as a white English woman, they are not doing this in my name.

Not in my name as a Welsh white woman either.

GoldThumb · 05/08/2024 19:50

PandoraSox · 05/08/2024 19:47

I tried to engage honestly with you

I wish I hadn't bothered. Feel a bit sick, tbh.

You feel sick? Because I pointed out there are white men and Muslim men causing chaos?

Let me ask you something.

What do you think of the various men caught on TV brandishing knives?

Uricon2 · 05/08/2024 19:52

GoldThumb · 05/08/2024 19:44

Let me rephrase it. The far right started it.

Muslim groups have enthusiastically joined in.

There are now two groups of maniacs roaming the streets.

Which was my point.

After one poster said it was lies that Muslim men were there.

No one wants to sit and claim they’ve ’got the number’ of that person, no?

Honestly, I never thought I’d see mumsnet posters arguing the toss of who started it when men are brazen enough to wield weapons live on the news

Thank you, "the far right started it".

Indeed they did. No mention of the imam in Liverpool who went out to offer burgers and chips to both sides of the riots with offers to talk, I notice. No, a convenient "just as bad as each other" narrative now. Is that what you're reduced to?

PandoraSox · 05/08/2024 19:53

GoldThumb · 05/08/2024 19:47

They are not doing it in my name either.

I can assure you you will never find me at any of these rallies.

But I will also not let people sit at pretend it’s a one way street, because there are literally armed men roaming the streets.

Edited

They are riots not rallies. Again your word choice says it all.

Armed men on live TV is really not ‘convenient’ no

Good for him.
Sounds like he has a good heart.

You've admitted that the far Right started it. I'm not condoning anyone carrying weapons, but well done for identifying the people who started this discord, and it isn't the community most under threat.

cakeorwine · 05/08/2024 19:57

Elon Musk is adding fuel to the fire.

Talks of Muslim headstones being defaced.

I hope the full force of the law comes down on these people.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 05/08/2024 19:57

Birmingham not looking pretty either..

Kendodd · 05/08/2024 19:58

I don't think Farage is the problem, I think it's the people who support and vote for him that are the problem. They should have been called out years ago for the massive fucking racists that they are instead of tip toeing around their 'concerns'. And as for describing them as 'disenfranchised' don't make me laugh. They've got every single thing they voted for, at massive cost to the rest of us. They are a beast that will never be satisfied, the sunlit uplands are always just over the hill, just one more thing to give them.

Ate you forgetting I started posted this because a previous poster said there were no Muslim men involved?

You can change this into who started it, who’s going to finish it as much as you like, but my point was, and is, that there are two side la involved now.

And I don’t want to encounter either

Anyone carrying a machete should be arrested and prosecuted.

Anyone carrying a machete should be arrested and prosecuted.

As should anyone inciting violence.

Radarkeigh · 05/08/2024 20:01

Plymouth also looking grim

TizerorFizz · 05/08/2024 20:04

It could actually be argued that all immigrants are under threat. It’s grievances about bias in housing, health, policing, education and just about anything else where others are seen to get a bigger slice of the cake just by turning up here. The fact the rioters have not improved anything for themselves is also telling. Blaming others is always the default position. I even heard someone complaining about all the “Asians” having the corner shops! As if no one else can have one.

Kendodd · 05/08/2024 20:04

lovelysunshine22 · 05/08/2024 16:56

I would also like to know why the left wing/ middle class on here think that basically calling the working class thick and racist is going to make them listen to you? Didn't work out well for you with Brexit did it ? You are simply fuelling their anger, with your snobbish, classist, superior attitudes. This has NOTHING to do with Farage being an MP or inciting anything. It didn't happen when the Tories were in power because they were seen as trying to do something about all the illegal immigration, whereas Labour will do nothing and everyone knows it! Did two tier kier actually think his stupid statement was going to do anything other than pour petrol on an already blazing fire?

Don't give me that bollocks trying to blame all this on the working class. We all know very well the ringleaders of this are not and never have been working class. And as for Brexit/ anti immigrant, well healed pensioners in the home counties voted Leave in droves. They don't fit the poor downtrodden narrative though.

There is a huge amount of whataboutery in this. No Muslims were taking to the streets until a far Right mob kicked it off in Southport and attacked a mosque, among other things, or the events of a few days later involving similar riots in many cities. So while I will never condone anyone carrying a machete, have a good look at those who actually started all this.

I couldn’t imagine taking to street in a gangs with a machete. No matter what happened before. Or for any riot really.

I genuinely can’t believe people are defending/justifying this.

TizerorFizz · 05/08/2024 20:16

@Kendodd They aren’t rioting though. I’ll keep an eye open though. Just because you’ve got a decent pension and live close to London, it doesn’t make you intelligent or sensible.

Just caught reporting of the memorial event for those three little girls. Not ashamed to admit I'm crying.

Yes, I saw that on the news as well. That wasn't a counter demonstration, that was another demonstration of angry men looking for trouble. The 'Nans Against Nazis' and the iman coming out with food for people, that was the counter demonstration.

Andy MacDonald MP commenting on Farage's role in this (from Times Radio)

Andy McDonald is the MP for Middlesbrough.

It's a pity he didn't also acknowledge that a Labour MP (Josh Fenton-Glynn) tweeted an untrue report of an acid attack on a Muslim woman in Middleborough.

The Guardian reported yesterday that Reform have complained to Keir Starmer - accusing Fenton-Glynn of “spreading inflammatory disinformation on social media" adding "fuel to an already burning fire”.
