I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

Just in the interests of factual accuracy I would like to point out that there are plenty of countries worldwide that host far more migrants than the UK.

I agree. Anyone who is concerned about immigration is now "far right". I don't know who is advising him, but as ex director of DPP he should have more sense than to inflame the situation. He was happy enough to kneel for BLM despite all the rioting.

The far right thugs are the ones burning down libraries and sporting swastika tattoos. Anyone with legitimate concerns is welcome to air them in a reasonable manner, we are a democracy after all.

It's their job stuck, they are trained to deal with it and are very good at it. Watch Stan Collymore's video to see.

The best help to the police would be if people unanimously called out the rioters so they stopped doing it.

Is Stan Collymore some sort of law and order guru now? Does he also make videos on how the police handle domestic abuse, I wonder? 🤔

History won’t be kind on their awful divisive politics.

An accurate description of the government we have had for the past 5 years.

Be under no illusion this is going to be government on an altogether different level of incompetence.

HappyLittleNarwhal · 04/08/2024 18:39

So your main criteria for a good leader is 'can talk without looking at notes'.

And you have the same right to vote as the rest of us.

I think his speech the other day was inflammatory, and has not helped at all

Ironically these are the people labour is supposed to be the voice of, the under dog, the disadvantaged, the poor.

Who represents them?

I feel so sorry for the police right now and where is the army.

The army was heavily defunded by the Tories I think. Oh and the police.
Most of the rioters aren’t ‘the underdog or disadvantaged’, they’re yobbos who want some rough and tumble.

It may have escaped your notice that Starmer is the leader of the party that won a resounding majority in the recent General Election, this suggests to me that he and his party are very much in touch with the views of the nation.

Did you stand in the General Election? How many votes did you recieve?

Did I miss the day during those 4 weeks when Starmer crashed the economy to please gamblers from Tufton Street?

No but you’re here for the Riots. Keep up

Were they about to take off ? At £38 million or such like per migrant ?
How do you know everyone agreed with this pitiful plan ? Done a survey ?

Twistybranch · 04/08/2024 18:42

So Starmer is already being more successful than Truss, thank you clarifying that for me.

Can you help me with something else, are the rioters chanting a slogan used by Starmer, or by his predecessor?

Most of the poor and the disadvantaged and the people that were royally screwed over aren’t out there rioting. Let’s try not to tar them all with the same brush as those with swastika tattoos, performing nazi salutes in the street and attacking the police and public buildings.

I think he’s making a massive mistake if he thinks ( as reported) going on his hols is acceptable or appropriate.
he’ll he letting down his police force, judiciary and so many other people if he thinks it’s ok to just bugger off. Boris was in Canada when the London riots kicked off and he got dogs abuse and came back to sweep the streets.
that will be a failure of leadership and I hope he gets advice not to go.
he wanted the job , has spent 4 or more years criticising the Tories government so I think he needs to put his money where his mouth is!

No, I'm not. You got me 👏.

Turophilic · 04/08/2024 18:49

Sparkle ffs?

Like Johnson and his workshy blustering, May triggering Article 50 without a plan what to do next, Liz Truss tanking the enonomy in a month, Rishi calling a quick election because he just couldn't be arsed any more... or perhaps you'd like to go back to Cameron, who called a referrendum as a pissing contest within the Tory ranks then swanned off into the sunset to leave everyone else to deal with the resulting catastrophe.

I'd prefer a serious, competent PM who actually turns up, does the homework and isn't looking for stupid, expensive populist answers (prision ships as asylum accomodation? Sending people to Rwanda?) and giving endless government contracts to all their mates.

He's only been there 30 days, and he has 14 years of Tory catastrophe and record public borrowing to contend with.

So should Starmer only deal with those that chant starmer slogans? He is PM to the whole of the country. He needs to do his job (while he’s got it)

The riots are taking place because he has no authority and lacks leadership.

Is he already more successful? he ain’t even reached 44 days yet. So calm

jugglesandspins · 04/08/2024 18:28

Pleased pensioners who are just above the threshold for benefits have lost their winter fuel allowance?! How can anybody agree with that.

And the millions of cuts to public finance otherwise known as ‘austerity’ ?
The increase in homelessness.
The failing NHS that is struggling to treat said pensioners.
The failing legal system that was unable to convict rapists and was about to release criminals onto the streets because in 14 years they’d not built a single new prison.
Failing schools having to lay off TAs and cut SEN spending.
And the billions of tax payers money given to cronies in Covid times ?
Those Tory policies ?

midgetastic · 04/08/2024 18:50

Read the room

Why should starmer do what a minority want ?

Read the room - the far right didn't win - more poeple said no to them than said yes

midgetastic · 04/08/2024 18:51

The riots are not taking place because he lacks leadership - it's because people don't like that they lost fairly

StuckintheRutt · 04/08/2024 18:53

@Leniriefenstahl oh and what makes a yobbo? I could be wrong but they seem to be late teens. Do you think they are out yobbing and putting their place at Oxford at risk?

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2024 18:55

Fucking he'll twisty. Living up to your user name.

The riots are not taking place because KS is a soft touch. Get real!

They are taking place because of the divisive politics and anti immigrant rhetoric and slogans that the last government started and reform adopted.

People are disenfranchised because of the decade of austerity.

I'll wait to see what he does the next 5 years. But you cannot blame him for this.

No labour didn't get w resounding victory. They won 9.5m votes (less than Corbyn) but benefited from the tory vote collapsing. By contrast Mrs T got 13 million votes all through the 80s when the population was much smaller. Only 20% of the voting public voted for them (so 80% didn't). Less than half the % that voted for brexit and starmer agitated for another vote for the next 5 years (notice him and his acolytes haven't done that this time even though Labour alot less popular than Brexit!).
