I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

Should someone that has a poor memory and needs notes for a short speech be disqualified from becoming PM?
He may otherwise be perfectly competent.

😉😁😁.

He is acting just as me and the 80% of the electorate who didn't vote Labour expected. We are in for a rocky 5 years as Labour are divisive and incompetent and likely to crash the economy for good. If he came to my town I would be there booing him but fortunately he doesn't seem to go in for interactions with the general public as I'm sure he knows how unpopular he is (just like Sunak).

I've been pleasantly surprised, the closure of the Bibby Stokholm, renewed support for Palastine, removal of tax relief for private schools, pay rises for public sector staff and a probable ban on trail hunting are all things I support. I don't care if Starmer uses notes. The problems we are seeing today are caused by Patel and Bravermen and Sunak and their years of divisive rhetoric over immigration

I couldn't agree more.

I really don't know hlw you can think like that. I am trying to understand but I can't.

Maybe I will in 5 years. Time will tell.

Rishi can fuck off. Oh yeah - he has.

He is to blame for laying the fuel for these fires with his rhetoric

Considering there are far right thugs chanting his "stop the boats" slogan up and down the country as they mindlessly smash up libraries and police stations, and that's his legacy, I doubt he's finding it that hilarious tbh.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 04/08/2024 18:27

A lot of the rioting goes back to the lies being openly being promulgated on social media, the idiots read them and swallow them whole. Then go out and start throwing bricks burning police cars and attacking mosques.

How you get social media to take responsibility for this and police their sites properly I don't know, but something has to be done. It seems any nut can stir up trouble by posting any old rubbish, what ever happened to checking things before acting, maybe that's why so many people get scammed these days they don't think things through just believe what any random person tells them.

I assumed that pissing himself meant in a more literal sense because Rishi must surely realise what he has done and is scared.

I’m pleased with all the changes he’s made. What would the Tories be doing if they were in charge of the riots?! Arguably their discourse has helped to overheat the issue, I’m thinking of Braverman’s ‘invasion’ rhetoric.

Pleased pensioners who are just above the threshold for benefits have lost their winter fuel allowance?! How can anybody agree with that.

noblegiraffe · 04/08/2024 18:28

People saying that we need to try to understand the yobbos instead of criminalising the yobbos - ask them what they want and they want all Muslims kicked out of Britain.

So then what?

I couldn't agree more.

To balance things I couldn’t agree less. Some of their policy proposals are beyond appalling.

I’m fairly confident they’ll end up being considered as the worst government in living memory. History won’t be kind on their awful divisive politics. The country deserves far better than Labour.

Freysimo · 04/08/2024 18:29

StuckintheRutt · 04/08/2024 17:28

I think his speech the other day was inflammatory, and has not helped at all

Ironically these are the people labour is supposed to be the voice of, the under dog, the disadvantaged, the poor.

Who represents them?

I feel so sorry for the police right now and where is the army.

I agree. Anyone who is concerned about immigration is now "far right". I don't know who is advising him, but as ex director of DPP he should have more sense than to inflame the situation. He was happy enough to kneel for BLM despite all the rioting.

ApplesOrangesBananas · 04/08/2024 18:29

These riots are his first big challenge and he’s not taking any strong stance at all. It comes across as weak and this is only the beginning.

StripedPiggy · 04/08/2024 17:21

Starmer has been PM for 30 days. I’m sure we would all have preferred it if he had completely transformed our country, got our economy firing on all cylinders, solved all our deep seated social problems and achieved world peace in that time.

But, given that he took over a complete shitshow, and he is a human being not God or Harry fucking Potter, we have to accept than he can’t actually perform miracles. So let’s give the guy a chance, shall we?

I agree with you

LOL at blaming Tony Blair for this. Got any gripes about Harold Wilson while you're at it?

absquatulize · 04/08/2024 18:31

History won’t be kind on their awful divisive politics.

An accurate description of the government we have had for the past 5 years.

Mostlycarbon · 04/08/2024 18:32

I prefer him to Rishi, Liz and Boris. But the bar was quite low to be fair.

So then what?

Whilst we are busy trying to understand other people will those who are fighting the police, take some time to understand Islam and those who follow it?

SpaceHogger · 04/08/2024 18:33

Starmer is weak. He’s daily becoming unpopular. It’s only a matter of weeks before Labour start stabbing each other in the back.

Well you leftys love to blame thatcher for everything and she hasn't been in power for 34 years lol. Cameron just carried on with Blairs crap policies as he said he was the "heir to Blair" and here we are.

No they’re not. There is definitely a sensible conversation that needs to be had about immigration. It can be done diplomatically. Anyone who is out looting shops with swastikas tattooed on them shouting “who the fuc* is Allah?” Is far right. He isn’t inflaming anything he’s saying what it is.

Everyone is out in force tonight..devisive, Tony Blairs fault, going to ruin the country...as if the conservatives haven't already ruined the country.
