I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

Anyone remember the Asda No Frills range? That would be Starmer sex 😂

FixTheBone · 19/08/2024 16:45

I'm happily enjoying the peace and quiet.

No daily dramas, no outrageous schemes costing millions of £s that have achieved nothing... It's almost as though the keys have been handed back to the adults....

Boomer55 · 19/08/2024 16:47

Labour will be no better than the Tories. Just quieter.🤷‍♀️

Difference is that Boris has charisma and a kind of "boyish" charm about him.

Starmer is just a dead fish.

He really doesn’t. Being stupidly outrageous isn’t charisma and deliberate scruffiness isn’t charm (though it’s a bit like the worst kind of schoolboy I suppose).
Not quite sure why anyone thinks the sexual presence/virility of either is relevant though. Johnson’s was a lying, cheating, law breaking disgrace. Starmer isn’t. That’s all that matters really.

There really is no accounting for taste. Well, to each their own and all that.

Lonelycrab · 19/08/2024 20:39

Well it’s terribly sad op, or anyone else that feels that way. I personally was dismayed when Johnson the amoral, bullshitting narcissist became pm, yay! Even more so with Truss the utter lunatic, and I’d given up caring by the time Sunak turned up, as it would seem the rest of the country had too.

So if you feel that strongly, you’ll all get your chance to vote him out in <checks notes> August 2029, so I suggest you suck it up till thenSmile

Good grief. You’re joking, obviously. He’s an incompetent, arrogant dimwit.

I honestly believe Starmer and his government are the worst in living memory.

They are entirely out of their depth and resorting to sinister tactics as they are unable to deal with matters in a professional manner.

It is the first time in my life that I have felt that the government is not on my side in any way whatsoever. They feel like an enemy imposed on us rather than a force for good to serve the people as should be the case.

They will destroy the country within 5 years.

Starmer has been PM for 30 days. I’m sure we would all have preferred it if he had completely transformed our country, got our economy firing on all cylinders, solved all our deep seated social problems and achieved world peace in that time.

But, given that he took over a complete shitshow, and he is a human being not God or Harry fucking Potter, we have to accept than he can’t actually perform miracles. So let’s give the guy a chance, shall we?

This.

That’s exactly why so many people loved Boris - his “charisma and charm. The fact that he was a lying criminal is irrelevant. Ditto Blair: plenty of charisma and charm, but extremely selfish and dangerous.

Given that my memory is somewhat longer than yours, I can safely say you couldn’t be more wrong. If Johnson and Truss failed to destroy the country despite their best efforts, I think it’s pretty safe in Starmer’s hands. I’m quite glad we have a government you don’t feel is on your side - the thought of one that would meet your approval makes me shudder.

Yes it was much better when we had someone waffling on about the Crimean war while fluffing his hair

Were you actually aware of Johnson and Truss ? Are you usually such a terrible judge of character ?

For my part I'm just so relieved that some serious, stable, competent adults are in charge whilst the conniving corrupt grifters have been kicked into touch for many years.

Picking up on your comment re ‘sinister tactics’. Extremely worrying that Labour have not investigated the impact of taking away winter fuel payments from over 9million pensioners. Surely they have a duty of care through health and safety legislation.

Its worth noting here that if you receive the full state pension and nothing more ( ie you are not disabled and don’t get housing support ) then just because you get the full state pension you are NOT liable for any pension credit. Even without a penny in savings. On that basis a lot of older people, many of them vulnerable through age alone, will suffer this winter.

Deaths of the elderly over winter due to the cold are in the thousands with Age UK noting 25,000 deaths a year. Other stats quote between 38,000 and 50,000 excess deaths amongst the elderly related to the colder weather every year.

It seems this is the grand plan to reduce the benefits bill then

I wouldn’t say in just 49 days it was really ‘Truss and her Government’…..it’s simply not long enough to label as such.

Are you actually joking? Why have they stopped wfa? So it didn't crash the economy? That's bloody deluded. Accepting bribes..thats corruption 11bn in overseas climate aid...bonkers, letting out prisoners early to reoffend?

Drawing into a war with Russia.........???????

greengreyblue · 16/09/2024 16:40

Most people on the wfa are using it for holidays. Those that need it will still get it. Pensions are rising above the loss anyway.

Yes, it’s not a difficult welfare cut to justify.

So why did Labour vehemently oppose it when in opposition just 10 months ago?

The obvious, and correct, answer is that Labour are a bunch of hypocritical, lying twats.

Well that's bollocks. Yes it should be means tested but the bar is way to low. State pension is 12k ffs

Well, that was coherent.

The war with Russia and Ukraine has been going on a little while. Do you think letting Putin have what he wants will end well?

Prisoner release was already happening under the Tories. Who were told 3 years ago that it would be necessary if they didn't sort the prison estate. They didn't act on that warning.

Accepting gifts is legal. Starmer declared them late. Not a good look and I think it shouldn't be allowed, but it's hardly on a par with the Covid contracts situation.

WFA absolutely shouldn't be universal. I think the threshold should be higher, but pensioners will have had far more in pension increases due to the triple lock.

Overseas aid in general brings in more money than it costs, and without addressing climate change, we're all fucked.
