I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

The MSM has clearly been given instructions not to highlight the incidents as it doesn’t play into Starmer’s divisive politics.

Why are you lying?

Because there are people who would chop off their right toe in an attempt to justify these thuggish riots.

Not one person regardless of race or background is justified in violence against another human.

They will feel the full force of the law.

I for one don't doubt it as when Starmer was DPP and presided over the 2011 riots most of the people arrested and charged were black and/ or ethnic minority.

He didn't take sides then and I don't believe he is or will now.

pointythings · 06/08/2024 12:24

Expecting correct and accurate use of the English language does not mean condoning the actions of rioters. There were absolutely also youths among the nationalist rioters.

If you're referring to me, you're the one denying evidence and picking and choosing words to suit your own agenda. You admitted that you hadn't even watched the video of the man in the pub.

Well that's a total lie because I have watched the video of the man in the pub.

I also noted, while watching it, that it wasn't a video of a lone man quietly enjoying a pint minding his own business that was randomly attacked as some on here described, but a man who had gone to approach and engage with the group of masked men walking by with the Palestinian flag who were clearly looking for trouble.

I think you are incorrect.

Starmer did takes sides in 2011, and he will again this time.
He will take the side of the law abiding majority.

Anyone who is upset by Starmer taking sides, is therefore condoning violence.

Earlier on this thread you said you didn't need to watch a video on the attack at the pub, so not sure why you expect people to be mind readers.

I notice you haven't condemned that attack.

I like and agree with a lot of your posts, but on this we differ. I watched the video too - the man was outside where he was approached and subsequently, set upon. It was one person initially, but then a large group joined in. Yes, in hindsight, he should have headed straight back inside at the first hint of trouble, but people don't always act with clarity in these situations. One person against 7+ others?! Mindless violence.

Correct and accurate use of the English language by your definition.

White rioters regardless of age = racist thugs.
Muslim rioters = Youths up to the age of 24.

You seem to make it up as you go along.

This was certainly an attack on a lone man, but he was approaching and engaging with them as they walked past the pub. You can see him move towards them, behind a small wall, and then they stop. Them some of them enter where he is.

Is there a bit before this that was cut from the video I saw?

Youth is often used to mean up to the age of 24.

Do you think youth unemployment is only under 18s?

Not when it comes to law and disorder it doesn't which is why once a person reaches 18, they are tried in an adult court and can be named.

Not in law it doesn't. Sounds like you're trying to minimise their violence by saying that they were "youths" up to the age of 24, but they will be tried in an adult court if over 18. Great.

Your poor comprehension skills and bad faith takes are exceptionally tedious.

You objected to them being called youths because they were adults. Now that you have realised that youth can include adult, you’ve pivoted to some other twatty take.

You’ve also told me that I said things I didn’t say and that I didn’t watch videos that I have watched.

I’m not trying to minimise violence, the attacks are horrendous. I would like some accuracy in describing them which has not been evident from some posters here.

If you are under 21 you are not sent to prison, but to a young offender institute.

Shabana Mahmood (Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, and an MP with a constituency in Birmingham, tweeted this a couple of hours ago:

'It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’re protesting – if you turn up in a mask, with a weapon, intent on causing disorder, you will face the full force of the law. To those working with police and community organisations with pride and civic duty - you are the best of us.'

You don't know the age of the racists who attacked the man in the pub. You said the BBC reported them as youths. I said I had watched the video and they didn't look like youths to me more like adult men. You then stated at that point that you didn't need to watch the video so I wasn't lying as you claim.

You then stated that a youth is someone between the ages of 15-24 but that is debatable as the definition of youth is "someone who is between childhood and adulthood". Therefore a person can be classed as an adult at the age of 18.

And you think I'm the one who lacks comprehension skills.

2dogsandabudgie · 06/08/2024 14:20

To add to my post, the youths that the BBC talked about may not have been the ones who attacked the man. That's why I asked which incident you were talking about.

pointythings · 06/08/2024 15:03

OK, let me put this simply: it is possible to be a youth and also be legally an adult. That is linguistically, legally and factually correct. A 21 year old adult is also a youth. It really isn't rocket science.

As I have said, there were youths among the white rioters too.

The 15 - 24 definition comes from the UN, by the way.

You'll be able to quote the post where I said I didn't need to watch the video? I don't think so.

The owner of the pub has said that they want to bar the person who was attacked for inciting the mob so my reading of the video being that the man deliberately approached and engaged with the group seems to have been correct. https://news.sky.com/story/birmingham-pub-punter-who-incited-violence-will-be-barred-after-counter-protester-attack-13192106

Birmingham: Pub punter who 'incited violence' will be barred after counter-protester attack

Difference is that Boris has charisma and a kind of "boyish" charm about him.

Starmer is just a dead fish.
