Why are majority of the riots in northern towns?

PhoebeMcPeePee · 04/08/2024 12:13

DH & I were watching the riots on the news this morning like most people absolutely horrified.

He's from one of the northern towns affected although we live in the south and started discussing why these riots now (and historically) tend to be more focused on northern towns but didn't really come up with any one thing. Any thoughts on this?

But many don’t over achieve unfortunately. Which is a whole different topic. Evidenced by gang culture and knife crime in certain areas in the Uk, specifically amongst none whites. This could be due to a feeling of not belonging, and absent fathers in a lot of cases, but it does seem a factor amongst some groups.

What a patronising post. Northerners are no more poorer than anyone els3 in th3 UK. Wages might be lower, but that’s relative to the standard of living costs. £500k up here buys a mansion. Down south it would buy a shoebox size flat in a crappy part of London. Everything is cheaper. The picture painted on this thread that the North is a grim, desolate place to live is so far removed from the truth. Many of us have a very good standard of living, and access to green spaces that London could only dream of. I’ve been to a London. It’s okay for a short trip, but quality of life is so much better in the North.

Surely that depends who you are, there are many people in the south east, including London having a very, very high quality standard of living they certainly would wonder why you pity them!

AvrielFinch · 05/08/2024 00:41

People who immigrate to the UK tend to have more personal resources - tenacity, resilience, ability to organise and plan - and are often better educated. That is why they can so often build a much better life as soon as they are able to work.

Maybe you should stop playing into their hands.

He does not care about jewish people. He is just good at tapping into grievances. The anti semitism around palestine has been largely denied or ignored by the left. Tommy Robinson noted this and sought to capitalise from it.

This. They also very much appreciate and value free education. Something that many indigenous British people take for granted or even turn their backs on.

Tatare · 05/08/2024 00:45

Honestly @Needspace2023 you are as credulous as they.

I'd like to hold the hand of understanding to you.

I didnt say that.
I know my house in London is massively overpriced. I know Northerners live very well. Have good loves and education.
Was wondering why excuses are being made for "left behind communities" to scapegoat Muslims and refugees.

There are a lot of people with very valid and real concerns about immigration. Not just the group of people rioting. They’re just articulating it in a very primal way. For the majority of us, it’s not about scapegoating refugees or Muslims. It’s much more than that.

Indeed that poster is. Funny how the most illiterate poster on this thread is bleating about anyone outside London not having GCSE’s isn’t it!

(I don’t mean you, I mean the person you were replying to who I also think makes no sense)

What is it then? Just want England to be for English people?

Are there indigenous British people, I thought the Sami People were the only indigenous people in Northern Europe I have Scandinavian immigrant heritage and I thought this was more broadly known outside of Scandinavia?

I was talking about the rioting thugs not people from out of London.
Genuine question, what is wrong with you and some others attacking me constantly?
Are you racist sympathizers?

You’re absolutely right. For the purposes of this thread, though, yes 😁

I suspect that most of the yobs have no idea that going back a few generations they’re immigrants too.

AvrielFinch · 05/08/2024 00:53

Needspace2023 · 05/08/2024 00:46

But it makes sense. Those without tenacity, intelligence, resilience and ability to organise and plan simply never attempt to immigrate, or sadly would never make it here. I know people who could not move to another place in the UK without a lot of help. They simply could never travel and claim asylum.
Those people are still living in very poor or war torn countries, or perhaps managed to get over the border to a very close country, rather than managing to travel to the UK.

Racist sympathisers based on what? Where have I condoned what is happening right now? I condoned your tarring everyone outside London with the same brush and making London out to be something it’s not.

Not attacking you personally, your responses make no sense.

I think that comment stems from a misunderstanding about what indigenous means. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone with truly indigenous heritage in Britain, most of us are native to Britain, but not indigenous. My family spans back generations in England, long long before even my grandparents were born-but my DNA ancestry shows I have Scandinavian, Finnish and North and West European heritage too. I’m only 62% English

Needspace2023 · 05/08/2024 00:55

People also forget many refugees are actually educated well in their own countries. Not all but many are. People fail to realize this.
