Crocs… are they worth the hype?!

It’s my birthday soon and I am thinking of asking for some classic crocs! I’ve heard good things about them - I know they used to be considered very ugly but they seem hugely popular now! I could do with some comfy slip on shoes. Are they comfy? Worth the hype?

Very comfortable but I just buy fake crocs. Last pair I got from Aldi in the children’s section as I have small feet and they were a fiver. They last for ages and I have a pair as slippers in the house and an outside pair.

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/08/2024 09:39

I had them recommended to me by a podiatrist when I was suffering with plantar fasciitis. I can't live without them now and am on my second pair. I use them instead of slippers, for popping into the garden and as beach shoes.

They're great for kids because they're so easy to slip on and off. I get fake versions too. Kids suit bright colours and they're comfy.

I don't like the look for adults. I'd go for Birkenstocks if you want comfy but even then you have to choose carefully to avoid the ugly ones.

I have all terrain ones. Very robust and great for walking /beach etc. And regular ones for everyday.. Ime much better to get the branded ones. Had mine 4 years and still in excellent condition.. Cheaper ones get worn underneath and aren't as safe on for example wet floors...

They look ridiculous. Ghastly ugly things. Emperors new clothes springs to mind.

Sethera · 04/08/2024 09:44

Sorry to hijack with more niche question - do Crocs tend to blister the feet? I am terribly susceptible to blistering, and I mean all over my feet - I can't wear Birkenstocks because they blister the top of my foot, on the instep, for example.

I feel like that about birkenstocks. Each to their own.

Sunshineafterthehail · 04/08/2024 09:46

Never had a blister....

GrinchoftheNorth · 04/08/2024 09:46

I find Bayas roomier in the top than classics so n they are the comfiest of them. Echos also very comfy but rubbed for first couple of weeks.

I'm prone to blisters too......I've worn crocs from the first time around and endured all the laughs and comments because they're so bloody comfy. Never had an issue with blisters although they can feel a bit rough on bare feet until they wear in a little.

blublub · 04/08/2024 09:50

My OH loves his, he bought some for DD. I refuse to join their croc gang. Most ugly shoes ever created. Nearest I’ll get is a fit flop and then only at the beach.

PinkiOcelot · 04/08/2024 09:50

They’re still ugly, but they’re so comfortable. You can get different styles now though. I have a pair of flip flops as well.

Frivolitiesandfripperies · 04/08/2024 09:50

I like crocs for garden, beach, camping but both me and the kids end up with them rubbing our insteps if we walk too far. We do have high insteps though so are often affected in other shoes.

ragingruby · 04/08/2024 09:50

These are mine, bought about 7 years ago and still going strong. Super comfy and I don't think they look especially ugly. I think they were called 'Mary Janes' or something like that

quockerwodger · 04/08/2024 09:51

I will never ever ever ever ever ever go into public wearing crocs, but, in the house, in the garden, taking rubbish to the bin .. they're the most comfortable slippers I've ever had, I love them.

Growlybear83 · 04/08/2024 09:51

I've worn crocs for years and I find them really comfortable. I've never had a blister from the classic or huarache crocs. However, when I had plantar fasciitis it was told the opposite to a previous poster by the foot clinic, who said they were the worst thing I could be wearing whilst it was very painful.

ichundich · 04/08/2024 09:53

They are very ugly. I think they are practical for gardening, swimming pools, pebbly beaches, hospital jobs, slippers. But stylish they are not.

Radionowhere · 04/08/2024 09:53

I wear them as slippers and in the garden and have done for years. They're very comfy.

Zonder · 04/08/2024 09:54

I've had real and fake and you can definitely tell the difference when you wear them.

ThatMellowMoose · 04/08/2024 09:54

I got some as I’d seen them recommended for plantar fasciitis.
Never ever again, my feet were so painful I couldn’t walk properly.

Hoppinggreen · 04/08/2024 09:54

Only time any of us got blisters from them was DD from a fake pair in a supermarket in Spain.
We are an unashamed Crocs family here, generally they are for around the house but i occasionally wear them elsewhere. I wore my pink ombre pair at a standing concert for 4 hours recently and my back and feet thanked me.
DDs BF will be getting a pair for his birthday from me this year to welcome him into the fold

Strathfan · 04/08/2024 09:55

I bought some fake Crocs at a market in France 15 years ago and they only gave up the ghost last year. They cost €5.

WorriedMama12 · 04/08/2024 09:59

If you wear them out and about, do you wear them with socks?

No, they're not suitable for wearing with socks.

RuthW · 04/08/2024 10:01

Classic crocs I wear as slippers bit I wouldn't do further than the bins in them.

Croc flip flops and flats are a different matter though.
