Do you sunbathe topless?

Inspired by the other thread - sunbathing topless is apparently very popular among Mumsnetters, just curious how many of us do it!

I don't think it's is, it was the fact that that poster was deeming womens nipples as 'wrong' and immoral, but men's are not.

Turophilic · 30/07/2024 14:28

I didn’t think people sunbathed anymore! I’m definitely out of touch; with all we know about skin cancer, I thought days of lazing in full sun were in the past.

Timeisnevertimeatall · 30/07/2024 14:30

I used to, noone needs to see mine anymore, although they'd be under my armpits so pretty well hidden.
And yes, I do laze about in the sun, it's one of my favourite things to do.

justkeepswimmng · 30/07/2024 14:30

I did in our private villa this year but in my garden or a public pool/beach - absolutely not.

Wellieswithsocks · 30/07/2024 14:33

It’s a confusing issue. People are saying breasts shouldn’t be sexualised (hence the controversy around the Page 3) but not sexualising breasts is surely a tricky call if a large part of the population is sexually attracted to female breasts.

I’ve sunbathed topless on occasions and would with my dh & daughters but my teenage DS would be mortified so I wouldn’t do it if he was around.

Perhaps it’s the wrong word - I mean sitting on the beach or beside a pool between swims?

I don't, because I prefer to be covered and I don't want burnt nipples, but I couldn't care less if other people do.

SkaneTos · 30/07/2024 14:35

I don't sunbathe at all. I have very sensitive skin. I sit in the shade with shorts and a t-shirt on.

But I don't mind people, men or women, being topless on the beach.

I think that's a bit of a disingenuous take on the poster's views tbh. Saying that it's wrong to expose certain bits of your body in public doesn't mean you think the body part itself is wrong or immoral. A body part can't be wrong or immoral. A penis isn't wrong or immoral, but I don't want to see one on the beach.

ActualChips · 30/07/2024 14:46

@AllProperTeaIsTheft I only read the first two posts by that OP, and they said womens nipples in public are wrong and immoral. 🤷🏼‍♀️ (But the same logic does not apply to male nipples)
Nipples are not genitals, so there's no comparison to make.

Yes, precisely. Do you honestly not see the difference between 'Women's nipples are wrong and immoral' (which is what you claimed the OP of the other thread had said) and 'Women showing their nipples in public is wrong and immoral'? I'm not saying I agree with either statement, but they are not the same.

JaneEyreBedHair · 30/07/2024 14:56

No.

spikeandbuffy · 30/07/2024 14:57

Yes and no
I don't go abroad and I don't sunbathe due to being a redhead! I do swim topless though (not at a swimming pool but rivers, reservoirs etc)

When was the last time you went abroad on holiday? Of course people still sunbathe.

ElliLovesDogs · 30/07/2024 14:59

No ive never but dont care either way about seeing it. Ive always had massive DD tits so even with a bikini/top on they drew enough attention! Let alone being perved over on the beach. Each to their own tho 👀

Everintroverte · 30/07/2024 15:02

I don't, mainly because I detest being stared at by grotty men.
And no matter how much men say they don't stare, or sexualise boobs, they absolutely do.

Peonies12 · 30/07/2024 15:04

I don't because I'm prone to burning and can't think of anywhere worse to burn! but don't care what others do.

ranor · 30/07/2024 15:08

I don't sunbathe at all and I don't laze in the sun - only get one if I'm out walking or with the dc in a park and haven't reapplied enough sunscreen. I've never sunbathed topless.but have been publicly nude in many other situations and I'm not bothered by it.

SallyWD · 30/07/2024 15:14

No. I don't and I never have. I have to say I'm someone who's not very comfortable revealing much of my body. I don't care if other people do it.
I also want to add I really dislike lying on the beach or by the pool. I simply can't do it and I worry about skin cancer too. Therefore there are very few opportunities for me to be topless!

Yes all those who pretend it's no different than men getting their moons out is disingenuous. Breasts are secondary sexual organs otherwise why the fuss?

Xenomoth · 30/07/2024 15:15

No because I think my breast are gross, I try not to look at them at the best of times let alone exposing them to other people! Good for other women if they want to do it though.

Abracadabra12345 · 30/07/2024 15:15

Moons out? Moobs! 🙄

BeaRF75 · 30/07/2024 15:16

I did (in Spain) when I was young but, frankly, it would not be a pretty sight now 😂 I'm more likely to lie under a parasol wearing a T shirt these days!
But I see nothing wrong with it, in principle - why shouldn't women be allowed to sunbathe topless on a beach?

I don't know what you're on about. No need to continue this exchange though.
