Do you sunbathe topless?

Inspired by the other thread - sunbathing topless is apparently very popular among Mumsnetters, just curious how many of us do it!

Probably due to the greater risk of being surreptitiously photographed and ending up online?

I don't, as no sunbathing.

Not probably, certainly. If the south of France is a guide.

I don’t sunbathe. But if I was on a beach where it’s allowed, I’d absolutely go topless (under shade). I have nice tits that I’m happy to get out and swimming naked or topless is heaven.

I have done and occasionally will just to even the tan. Not in full sun, not all day and only if it’s quiet or in my own private garden. Depends who is around to stare.

Once in Spain, a man (who was very attractive, so I can’t think he would have struggled for attention, which makes the whole thing more bizarre) plonked himself in front of me, lay on his tummy and very obviously drew attention to his erection. I burst out laughing and he got up and left. Not the only time I’ve been given a crotch shot!

Only when abroad if I have a private garden/pool, I'm not one for flapping my saggy baps round the communal pool, more to save everyone one else's eyes!

I wouldn't on a family holiday but we're mainly around a pool with no one else topless. I would with my bf or in my own garden, but I'm not bothered by a bit of nakedness

Currently on a beach in Spain. I'm sunbathing topless. Early 50s small boobs nothing to write home about especially after breastfeeding but I've always done so and like having a tan with no lines and find it relaxing. Don't care if people look or not. Not doing it for exhibitionism but because i am on holiday and the weather is rubbish at home so why not.

I would say at least a third of the women on the beach here are topless, including much older women in their 80s and also younger women in their 20s. I like that people here are comfortable with their bodies and it doesn't feel like a sexualised issue.

I have no plans to stop sunbathing topless. When it feels appropriate for me to do so.

Did 2 summers in Greece when I was 19 and 21. Only ever wore the bottoms, the tops were never worn! Only worked in the evenings or split shifts, sunbathed at every opportunity as well as out until the wee small hours after work. One day off a week and paid £25 a week, made more in tips plus had board and food provided by the hotel( we felt rich), those were the days😁
Now, a sensible swimsuit, no midday sun and factor 50 and a villa. I miss those days of my youth!

I still do, having gone topless on beaches pretty much my whole life (unless in the US). My ancient bangers were out today in fact. My teenagers couldn't care less, they've seen them before.

A man was so busy looking at my tits on the beach in Alicante that he walked into a group of people sitting down and his tray of drinks went flying all over them.

I used to from the ages of about 18-30 but no longer. I dont get what all the hang ups are about - the female body is nothing to be ashamed of.

Of course bodies (male or female) are nothing to be ashamed of. Does that mean that you think it should be fine to walk around in public totally naked? If not, why not?

Im very fair skinned. I can barely sunbathe at all.

No - I have no interest in a tan for its looks any more and not fussed around tan lines. I do like getting a certain amount of sun when it's not too hot but that's because it's good for vit D and it makes me happy. I would tend to wear shorts/ vest top or sun dress and a costume for swimming .

I wouldn't sit out if it was properly hot though - and don't holiday abroad on the main summer .

I did used to sunbathe topless my 20s (so in the 80s/90s) but it's just not on my radar any more. I don't go on foreign beach holidays in the summer or when it's crowded so it's something I've not seen for years and I wouldn't think about.

I thought this was just a thing people did on nudist beaches... (obviously not!)

Outside of the UK, people have been doing it for decades. In the 1990s I saw it on beaches like Biarritz, Nice, etc. and I don't mean nature freaks. I mean all sorts of 'normal' people including old German ladies.

I'd say that in the 80s probably 90% of women were topless on the French beaches we visited.
Now I'd say it is less then 10%, mostly french women, the odd German (and me).

Do these people take their tops of anywhere else?! Its obviously soemthing that passed me buy but I haven't taken my top off in public ever!!!

I agree. It is faux naivety to say otherwise.

I don't care what other people do but I have always been self conscious about my lack of curves so I have never sunbathed topless. Having had a skin cancer scare I now cover up.

Besides, I don't get the angst about tan lines. I mean who is going to see them when you get home? Your work colleagues? The till operator at Tesco? The bus driver?

I don't see many topless women where I holiday TBH.

Same here. I did it in the 1970s. Wouldn't do it now even though my figure is still presentable. I'm a complete prude now (no idea why) so don't like to see it.
I find it very rare to see women topless on holiday now, the odd ones I've seen tend to be older and stand out as unusual.

I do get strange feelings when I see women sunbathing topless, I think just because I'm not used to it.
But I don't really have a problem with it, it just takes me by surprise

Well no, because taking your top off in many circumstances is not appropriate. I'm sometimes topless in my own garden, and go topless on beaches in countries where it is common and acceptable. That's about it.

It's not about "angst about tan lines" either. I just like wearing fewer clothes and don't see the need to hide my breasts in the right circumstances.
