Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

SandrasNewDo · 30/07/2024 08:35

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

Give it a rest will you

Give what a rest? Calling out lies?

Nope.

Notonthestairs · 31/07/2024 16:01

"Give it a rest will you"

Misinformation should be challenged. I highly doubt MN wants to be part of spreading false news.

User8646382 · 31/07/2024 16:02

So let me put this another way. A man, wearing a balaclava and carrying a knife, was arrested a couple of streets away from where a vigil was being held for three children who had been killed in a stabbing incident.

Surely this should be a lead article on every media outlet? Yet, the PP I initially responded to was unaware. How is that even possible?

The man was reported at 6.50. Arrested at 6.55. And the violence had begun earlier.

CantDealwithChristmas · 31/07/2024 16:05

I will probably get flamed for this but I think it's so sad that we're arguing and getting away from the true subject which should be remembering and thinking off the victims of Monday's horror, in which a MAN attacked and butchered young FEMALES, and incredibly brave local civilians and police stopped him.

I also feel so badly for the Southport police they will be traumatised enough from Monday and then they had to deal with last night.

(Although I did think the tracksuited thug who got hit in the goolies was quite funny)

Notonthestairs · 31/07/2024 16:07

You won't get flamed because you are right. Of course our focus should be on those little girls and their families.

Accurate reporting remains important however.

But this is just arguing. It’s becoming very tiresome.

Notonthestairs · 31/07/2024 16:09

Sorry, I should add the adults involved and who did their best to protect and care for them. I've just been reading about how the yoga teacher did everything she could to get between them and the attacker. Just appalling.

I know you want me to report you for a personal attack so you can attack me for that too! So I won't.

If caring about the truth, if caring about racist violence being reported as racist violence, if wanting the people of Southport to be allowed to grieve in peace without racist thugs and online conspiracy theorists hijacking their grief is being a bully, then yes I am a bully.

I’m really not interested in reporting anyone to Mumsnet. It just wouldn’t occur to me.

Everyone should have the right to express an opinion without the threat of being censored.

Unfortunately, there are racists, like the EDL, who have shown utter contempt for the girls and their families by abusing this tragedy as an excuse to whip up racial hatred.

Across all races, it is men, not women, who commit most violent acts.

Expressing an opinion and spreading outright lies are two completely different things.

You can have alternative opinions, but there's no such thing as alternative facts.

So you’re saying there wasn’t a man in a balaclava carrying a knife? Or just that the Telegraph was mistaken in reporting that this is what precipitated the violence?

That was some cosmic justice that: hit in the meat and two veg *by a fellow rioter's brick".

I agree, but sadly people come on to these threads and post misinformation (and have been doing so since Monday). Misinformation such as saying a man turned up with a "machete" during the vigil and was arrested and that is what sparked the riots.

If posters don't want to take the focus off the tragedy, then they shouldn't post misinformation.

The police have confirmed that they picked up someone in a bally with a flick knife, after the bricking of the mosque was underway. It's therefore not possible for the violence at the mosque to be caused by flick knife guy's arrest.

@FarmFlowers some great posts. This in particular is so true:

Too many shits are given about violent out of control men

and

Someone up thread said she was a teacher and that it didn't matter what had gone on before when referring to the airport case . She wrote that it didn't matter if a pupil had told her to fuck off many times, it would not justify her telling the pupil to fuck off once in retaliation. This attitude is what leads thugs and criminals to correctly believe that they can act with impunity and no one in authority can say 'this far and no further.'I believe if someone behaves badly then they wipe away their right to be treated well. Actions have consequences and if pupils started to learn this in school then we would have a better society.

100%.

If violent and abusive children in schools didn't get so many chances and their feelings and desire to be disruptive put above the needs of the vast majority of other pupils and the right of other students and staff to be safe then we might not have such a huge teaching crisis and teachers leaving in droves. Funnily enough, it's not a great working environment if someone can be abusive to you as much as they like - sometimes physically - and there's nothing you can do about it.

What happened with Wayne Couzens wasn't an outlier it was a consequence. If he'd been arrested for the crime of flashing, reported by McDonald's staff, then he wouldn't have been free to murder Sarah Everard. These men escalate and escalate and think they can do anything because they're never stopped, then someone eventually loses their life and there's a lot of handwringing. Even though there are usually red flags like bunting for ages beforehand.

Amybelle88 · 31/07/2024 16:40

To reiterate that it was a dance class for children, and because that's what it was.
