Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

SandrasNewDo · 30/07/2024 08:35

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

How come so many EDL "just happened" to be around to attack the mosque?

These far-right rent-a-mob types travel into areas to cause trouble. They were already deliberately there and looking for a fight. The machete guy didn't "cause" the attack on the mosque.

Exactly. BTW, it wasn't a machete. That is also a fabrication from certain sources.

Oh, I see... It was actually a flick knife.

Remind me again who is supposedly "covering up" @Creepingivy ?

The chairman of the Mosque in Southport Ibrahim Hussein says he’s been moved to tears by the kindness of the community after the violence last night. They were inside when the mosque was pelted with bricks, leaving the muslim community fearing for their lives.

MaturingCheeseball · 31/07/2024 13:55

The thing is, in the era of social media you can rouse a mob in seconds, whatever your cause - Leeds, Manchester, Southend… Just a quick TikTok and Bob’s your uncle. I don’t know how you stop it. It was a hot night - you never hear of unrest/rioting when it’s tipping down with rain. I feel sorry for the Police in all these situations. What on earth was the problem with Boris’s water cannons?!

Anyway, it will no doubt transpire why this individual went after these girls. The time to protest is if the Law fails to deal with him appropriately.

Rubbish. The EDL were already there for a ruck. Most of them were from outside the area. Why did they start throwing bricks at police, attack a mosque and ransack a shop because a man with a knife got arrested?

Look, it’s important to have balanced reporting that lays out the facts. Otherwise it’s just propaganda, regardless of whether you’re on the left or the right.

Yep. The so called quality press also mentioned the fact that his parents are from Rwanda and mentioned the massacres there and the fact that most people there have a machete. Not helpful.

It is indeed

So why are you blaming the man with the knife who got arrested for the riots?

I am pointing out that this precipitated the violence - which the PP did not seem to be aware of. Unsurprisingly, as it isn’t being mentioned in any of today’s media reports.

Unless you would prefer to pretend that the man didn’t exist.

And where do you get your infromation from?

I don’t think it’s the case that the rioting was sparked by misinformation about the identity of the perpetrator. There was a man in a balaclava with a knife at the vigil - that’s what precipitated the violence.

According to the Times this morning the violence was sparked by twitter and other social media sites spreading misinformation.

Well nothing I have said is "propaganda".

The police have said the EDL were there, some were from outside the area.

You can see from footage that they were throwing bricks.

There are various reports of them attacking a mosque.

The local MP has blamed SM for fanning the flames. The former and now shadow home secretary has also spoken about misinformation spread via SM, so you can't accuse me of Labour bias!

No one in an official capacity has said the riot was sparked because of the arrest of a man with a flick knife. If you have a source for that assertion, please link.

If you think I am posting propaganda, report my posts. MNHQ will delete.

Actually, it clearly linked the riots with the man’s arrest.

I am calmly stating facts. As you mentioned propaganda in your reply to me I wanted to prove that I am not repeating propaganda.

Again, politely, please can you link to the source that confirms the riot was not planned by the EDL, but was off the cuff and sparked by the arrest of the man with the flick knife who was wearing a balaclava.

No, because it has been taken down from the Telegraph site and isn’t being reported by other media outlets.

So. Your source is basically misinformation being spread on social media.

We got there in the end.

I’m perfectly well aware of what precipitated the violence. I live not far from Southport and the local press are posting updates. This violence was started by misinformation spread on Twitter and other social media sites that the perpetrator was a Muslim asylum seeker. A mob gathered outside the mosque, including EDL supporters who had travelled to the scene as a result of messages on social media. They were chanting and cheering as mosque windows were broken. Alex Hurley is our local MP and he was right when he said that the town’s grief has been hijacked by thugs. Posts about a man with a knife at the vigil have now been taken down, as they were clearly untrue, so you might want to stop reposting incorrect information as that, and conspiracy theories don’t help - they certainly don’t help the people of Southport if this is the consequence of people online spreading vicious lies.
