Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

I suspect because they have very few details.

Myteaiscild · 30/07/2024 08:37

I doubt anyone is focusing on the TS element

Blackcats7 · 30/07/2024 08:37

Just being factual. Why are you bothered?

MapleTreeValley · 30/07/2024 08:37

I know what you mean OP. I find it a bit odd that I keep reading this.

Gymmum82 · 30/07/2024 08:38

Because it’s factual

Because some men have an issue with women such as Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande and try and kill as many people associated with them as possible

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 30/07/2024 08:38

They’re giving the facts they have in an incident where they have very few facts.

Livelaughlurgy · 30/07/2024 08:39

I think it just highlights the innocence and wholesomeness of the event.

Dressinggowntime · 30/07/2024 08:39

I just think it highlights the horror of it. Taylor Swift in my mind conjures up images of little girls all dressed up enjoying themselves. I’m sure Taylor Swift will make some kind of comment or gesture at some point. Not that it will help anyone.

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 30/07/2024 08:41

It pads the story out. There are so few details, reporters have to say something.

unicornpower · 30/07/2024 08:42

I think it highlights how small and innocent the victims are, they were literally at a dance and friendship bracelet making workshop that should’ve been fun for them.

Yes this unfortunately

Ellerby83 · 30/07/2024 08:43

I think it's relevant. Who would be at at Taylor Swift themed event - girls. He was deliberately targeting girls.

mummylife123 · 30/07/2024 08:44

It makes me think she was part of his motive somehow- ie he specifically sought out a Taylor Swift themed event. If so, it's very likely to be an incel.

Hermanfromguesswho · 30/07/2024 08:44

It makes it clear that it was a class aimed at little girls I guess to highlight how horrific it is that someone would target them

MeouwCat · 30/07/2024 08:45

Dancingmonkeyfeet · 30/07/2024 08:42

Yes this unfortunately

The suspect is a boy of 17, not yet a man

IrisDenver · 30/07/2024 08:45

Of course they are going to mention it! It was a themed craft workshop! 🙄

Bunnycat101 · 30/07/2024 08:45

Because there were 25 little girls there having fun and doing something thousands of other little girls will be doing this holiday and at least two of them won’t be going home to their parents.

Because there is a chance someone targeted the event because it was likely to be full of little girls.

It would have been the same if it was football camp or a frozen camp or any specific activity.

HansHolbein · 30/07/2024 08:47

Many incels hate Taylor Swift and call the young children that love her ‘mini foids’ that will grow up to be ‘sluts and whores’.

crumblingschools · 30/07/2024 08:47

I assume they wonder whether that was the kilker’s motivation and he would have seen the advert for the dance class and hence got a taxi there. He wasn’t just walking past and grabbed the opportunity to run in and attack some children

This. It doesn't mention ages so they've included the club and intended age so it's clear most if not all of the victims are little girls

That’s literally the conversation my husband and I have just had. Is it someone who thinks TS is the devil incarnate or was it just deemed an easy target?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 30/07/2024 08:55

As others have said, because it highlights it was an event aimed at little girls.

The attacker will have been expecting a room of predominantly female children. This wasn’t an exam grade dance class or something for those doing dance as an art form, it was little girls having fun in the holidays.

several have also mentioned the centre runs antenatal and post natal classes throughout term time, this is a very female focused environment. He picked this place to attack.

Possibly just to mention the detail but it also hammers home just how small and innocent the children were. The fact that children attending such a club or party can be a target for a mad man’s rage just makes it all the more sad. They’re so innocent, they should have been safe.

Yeah I think most Taylor Swift events are safe spaces for young people, usually girls and women and it’s scary that you can be having a great time and this can happen very suddenly.
