Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

SandrasNewDo · 30/07/2024 08:35

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

Did they actually say that he was born in Cardiff? I heard that he was from there but not that he was born there.

Yes, Merseyside Police have confirmed that and added it to their statement

This bothers me too OP. Adding Taylor Swifts name seems irrelevant. It could have just been reported as a 'children's dace class'

I was looking on Google Street View for the area. This poster made me wonder if the venue has something to do with pole dancing. Does anyone local know?

If so, I suspect there is nothing seedy about the venue, it'll just be a USP a gym/dance studio uses to attract custom. But I could see why the nature if the venue wouldn't be highlighted.

Venues can be used for more than one purpose and RPoles are designed to be built and taken down quickly for pole fitness classes. People read "pole dance" and think "stripper" but actually a pole class is more likely to be full of women of various shapes aged 20-60 in vests and shorts complaining about the bruises they will have in the morning.

They knew exactly which house to raid didn't they!!

Which just suggests the suspect was known to one of the witnesses.

Come on now, are you really being so obtuse? You know full well what was meant by them ruling out terrorism was ruling out terrorism in the "traditional" sense. Likely to avoid any potential violence related to race and/or religion.

Not disagreeing with you, however it does speak volumes about the status of women and girls in society that targeted attacks against us isn't deemed terrorism.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 30/07/2024 10:49

First I've heard of this @SandrasNewDo

A 17 year old who was born in Cardiff. Have you not read the news today?

I wanted a name and a photo and a real reason not speculation.

Depends. Terrorism is defined as violence or intimidation to achieve political aims so depends if you consider it a political aim.

Are you actually suggesting that Rwandan people are a separate species here? Because that's the only way your analogy can work...

Dogs and horses are completely separate species. They can't mate and produce offspring. Rwandan people and British people can mate and have children, so same species.

PS: you're being racist.

Pip2345 · 30/07/2024 10:51

@Midlifecryses I don't want to contribute to misinformation but I've heard from reputable sources why they understand he did it and that would be a good place to start.

It's not actually something I've seen reported anywhere yet so the police could really defuse some building tensions by explaining it. People will start kicking off and a lot of those people won't have the interests of the children and their families at heart they're just looking for any excuse. There's already calls for people to gather in certain places later to protest.

I also don't think he should get any anonymity at all but understand the laws going to protect him for now so more context is needed.

Saucery · 30/07/2024 10:52

Can you honestly not see it’s too soon for that? That’s why we have investigations and courts 🤦‍♀️

Getting women back into the house and dependent on husbands so that each pathetic incel has a woman to marry because said women have no other choice in life is absolutely a political aim.

Your wants are irrelevant

In cases of all kinds, police are banned from identifying suspects who have been arrested until they are charged with an offence

If the suspect is under18, they have automatic anonymity. It lifts when they turn 18, unless further restrictions made, or when a judge orders it

Why a photo? You won't get his name either as he is only 17.

The police have confirmed he was born in Cardiff and his age, so that is fact not speculation, btw.

As a mixed race person - please can I implore you not to say things that imply that people like me are not British. Condemn this heinous act without outright racism please.

It will be shut down soon, just as all the others have been, because too many people can’t keep a lid on their racism.

I reported it ages ago.

Normallynumb · 30/07/2024 10:58

I think it's because it could be anyone's daughter of a similar age, highlights how normal it was to have things like this take place in the summer holidays
It was a family hub used for other events in a normally quiet residential area, not an urban centre.
