I am currently wearing a summer nightie from British Home Stores.

Yesterday I was measuring a picture frame with a Woolworths ruler.

What about you?

Work shies from dolcis. Got them when I started teaching.
Dress and hooded Cardi from Pilot.

Anyone else remember Mark 1 and Internacionale?

Mark One on Northumberland Street in Newcastle was my constant in the day, brilliant place!

I have a Cherokee crochet top, much admired this week when I wore it to lunch.

I got a jumper with horses on it from BHS, far too big now, but I’m holding on to it. They used to do Evans shoes for my huge feet, I miss them! Also Evans shop, been gone a while.

I think Schuh is only online these days, they used to do brilliant shoes with spikes/studs etc.

Tmpnmc86 · 28/07/2024 22:51

I still have stuff from Tammy girl and clock house

Frith2013 · 28/07/2024 23:20

Spoons, potato masher and similar from Wilkos.

Still have my colander and potato peeler from when I went to Uni (mid 90s) but not sure if they were Wilkos or Woolies.

4 plates from BHS.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 28/07/2024 23:20

I have a beach towel from M&S that is over 40 years old and still going strong (mainly due to the limited requirements of a beach towel in the UK 🤣)

FourChimneys · 28/07/2024 23:23

Tmpnmc86 I had completely forgotten about Clock House!

Sorting out my clothes for tomorrow I discovered several pairs of Debenhams pants. I shall wear them sparingly and see how long they last.

I was telling DH about this thread. He says the pot he keeps his special tea bags in was from Habitat about 40 years ago.

Ifonlyiweretaller I agree, beach towels don't get used much!

DH has been retired for several years but still has his school swimming towel. I'll look tomorrow to see if it has an identifiable label.

Little screwdriver set from Woolworth's

I paid 89p for a small flathead, a slightly larger flathead, a cross head, a borer and a bradawl

Still in use

My Ercol dining table and chairs, still used every day, were inherited from my parents. They bought them in the early 60s from Barnsley British Co-op, which no longer exists by that name.

I was (of course) very young at the time but still remember them talking about it. That was likely because it was a significant expense for them at the time, but it’s lasted.

FourChimneys · 29/07/2024 06:58

Gingernaut I love that you still know the price.

JulySheWillFly I hadn't thought of Ercol. Is it still made? We have a few inherited bits from both our families, it is such good quality. (Love your username btw, I'm a big S&G fan)

Ah, Mark One. I think prior to that, it was called The Place (briefly, probably around 1985)

I love looking at medleys of old photos from Northumberland Street. It's weird thinking back to when buses used to use it as its been pedestrianised for so long.

As a teenager, I used to work in Freeman Hardy Willis next door to M&S.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 29/07/2024 07:07

Also, there is an actual Schuh in the new bit of Eldon Square which used to be the exit to the coop and entrance to the Green Market (I say new bit, it's probably been there over 20 years now, but it's not an area I wander to)

StoatofDisarray · 29/07/2024 07:17

I've got a square necked black ribbed tank top from Clockhouse from about 1985 that I still wear.

There's a group on Facebook that shows old photos of Newcastle, Historical Newcastle or something. Very interesting!

I have a clothes brush from my student days that says Woolworth DM 3.75 so also a currency that no longer exists.

I have a lovely summer skirt that I bought in the C and A closing down sale, probably 30 years ago.

charlieinthehaystack · 29/07/2024 13:25

ah Woolworth's yes an awful lot of my stuff came from there; vinyl, CDs, Christmas decorations, Pyrex and other china, all sorts!

SerafinasGoose · 29/07/2024 13:37

Two beautiful Poole Pottery vases. I was so upset the last time I visited Poole to see that the old shop of such a long-standing, renowned company is no longer there. At least they still have an online shop, though.

Yes, Ercol is still made. It seems to be pricey.
You can probably guess what my name will be later this week. 😀

I used to love The Pier too. Again, Germany has a similar store called Butlers. www.butlers.com
