I am currently wearing a summer nightie from British Home Stores.

Yesterday I was measuring a picture frame with a Woolworths ruler.

What about you?

Jeans from Bay Trading co and a Falmer shirt. They have been relegated to farm clothes now but the jeans are only a bit frayed round the bottoms - the knees, inside thighs and stitching on the pockets are fine.

Charles Tyrwhitt shirts- company still going but don't make women's shirts now I think. I use these loads for work, my original ones starting to wear too much (and very heavy wash n wear use for years, they stood up very well ) and got relegated, happily got some more 2nd hand on eBay so my work wardrobe is sorted for another 15 years.

Got a little leather make-up bag from Kew. Loads of Past Times jewellery and one of their jewellery boxes which has survived many house moves. A silk jacket from Topshop which is probably late 90s.

Athena51 · 28/07/2024 09:17

I have a gorgeous red top from Kookai that I must have bought 20 years ago, I still wear it and it stills looks lovely. I bought it from Cavendish House in Cheltenham which was the best department store ever. It became a House of Fraser, went rubbish and has now closed down.

I have a bread bin from Woolworths, and a laundry basket from BHS.

My laundry basket is BHS too. As are some sheets and duvet covers.

BobbyBiscuits · 28/07/2024 09:19

My uncle bought me a silk scarf from Tie Rack in 2005.
I'm staring at a half empty bottle of body shop perfume oil on shelf which I think I must have bought more than 30 years ago?!
I've also got one of my mum's st Michael slips from the 70s. It's totally see through sadly so not really appropriate to wear as a dress?

I've got a pink and white striped vest top that I bought from Grattan catalogue for my holiday to Ibiza in 1985. I wore it with pink rolled up cargo pants and white stilettos.
Also still have a white bobble t shirt from Pippa Dee.

Pippa Dee???

OMG - I haven’t heard of them for years - weren’t they sold by your friends bringing bags of stuff to your house? Apologies if I’m wrong😁

I still have bits and pieces from Woolies, things like Christmas decs, and odds bits of clothing from shops much missed. Loved a good Saturday afternoons shopping sesh with my friends!

Cocopogo · 28/07/2024 09:20

Waw you lot are hoarders! I don’t have anything old but I’m enjoying reading the thread

Lorrymum · 28/07/2024 09:21

I still have a teapot from Timothy Whites. Also brown earthenware coffee pot from original Habitat in the late 70' when I first married. I felt so grown up and trendy when I bought it even though we didn't drink coffee!

Doggymummar · 28/07/2024 09:29

Oh just remembered I have a nest of tables and frying pan from habitat that were on my wedding list when I got married for the first time in 1989.

LuckbeaLady2 · 28/07/2024 09:30

Shelly shoes

TheYoungestSibling · 28/07/2024 09:32

A bedside lamp from BHS. I fondly remember my dad teaching me how to wire a plug on to it. So that's early 80s.

Towels from Woolies that we bought in the late 90s.

A skirt labelled St Michael that I was probably 19 when I bought, so that's early 90s.

Not a shop but an item, I bought my hairdryer in 1991 and it's still going strong. Probably jinxed it now!!

Some lovely memories here. It is lovely to hear of so many things still going strong.

I have remembered a few more this morning. I have a shirt from Bay Trading, a board game from Past Times (loved that shop) and some Tupperware inherited from my mother.

My stapler and hole puncher are from Boots, from the long ago time they sold stationery.

Does anyone remember Boswells in Oxford? It closed a few years ago but was a treasure trove of an old fashioned department store. We would visit Oxford occasionally and the DC would beg to go. I think a lot of DS's Playmobil came from there.

I was genuinely gutted when I heard Boswells had closed down. I got all my kitchen stuff there when I was a student, suitcases, presents, there was practically nothing it didn't sell and browsing was so nice. What a shame.

FourChimneys · 28/07/2024 09:35

CocoPogo Not so much hoarders as keeping hold of well loved and good quality stuff!

I didn't realise Monsoon and Habitat were no longer around. I have a Monsoon dress which I occasionally wear.

A quick rummage in the cupboard has produced a lovely soft blanket, inherited from MIL, from Brentford Nylons. It is soft and warm, the DC used to like snuggling up in it when they were poorly. It occasionally goes over our duvet on very cold nights.

Nellieinthebarn · 28/07/2024 09:43

I remember the Brentford Nylons advert on TV with Nicholas Parsons.

My mum still wears a Biba necklace, its lovely, sort of pinky orange beads with alternating with a blue flower. I think its only plastic, or resin of some sort, but its still very nice. Goes well with a plain top, its just the right length.

JackJarvisEsq · 28/07/2024 09:43

Mostly it’s branded coat hangers

I have a selection of Jane Norman, Warehouse, Kookai, Bay Trading and MkOne hangers in the wardrobe

Sandinyourshoes · 28/07/2024 10:02

BHS & St Michael knicks, they must be made of stern stuff!
Several Woolies mugs
2 pairs Oasis wide leg jeans from early 2000s with the hems cutoff as far too long without heels which I rarely wear, & an Oasis tshirt I now wear in bed
Several Debenhams silver stud earrings
Esprit denim jacket from House of Fraser (no branches near me anyway)
Littlewoods towels
C&A ski gloves although I never went skiing
etc…
I do miss those big shopping days out

VimtoVimto · 28/07/2024 10:06

Our dining table is from BHS. I got a nice Kew linen top from a charity shop last year.

It’s not hoarding if the items are still in working order and being used.

I have a bread bin from Woolworths, and a laundry basket from BHS.

I have shelving units that we bought from Woolworths in 1975 when we got married! They've survived 2 moves.

ReframeFeelings · 28/07/2024 10:27

Knickers from Ethel Austin

Ariela · 28/07/2024 10:55

My broom (has a yellow head) is from Habitat when they pretty much only had their Wallingford HO / outlet. It needs replacing as the bristles are falling to bits, but I can reuse the handle.

Tops and dress. From Bravissimo. I still mourn the fact they stopped making clothing. I loved their style and it fitter so well over a larger bust.

For those of you missing Past Times have a look at Between the lines it's very similar.

This is my biggest gripe with them, they spent so long running the clothing line into the ground. Repeating styles, producing styles no one wanted and using cheaper material whilst hiking the prices that it's no wonder people stopped buying them. I didn't need jersey dresses and tops that I had to wear a cami underneath, I need structured dresses and tops, shirts and blouses(like they originally produced). I didn't need leggings but I did need their sports tops as they're the only ones I've found that are long enough.

I had their very first shirt, it was a god send.

persisted · 28/07/2024 12:04

A very tired looking Christmas tree that came from Woolworths in 2002.
Every year I think about replacing it, but can't be bothered when it's only up for 10 days 😆

Sunnysuns · 28/07/2024 12:11

I have lots of Topshop clothing from when Topshop was still on the streets.
Also I have few C&A items but bought from abroad last year where they have shops all over Europe.
Also lots of Cath Kidston, though CK is now at Next but it’s poor selection and so pricey now, also the same with Joules from when Joules was on the High Street.
I miss all those shops, especially Cath, those little cute colourful shops with huge selection.
The stuff they selling now on Next is not great, horrible prints which look nothing like old CK was.

MouseofCommons · 28/07/2024 12:13

My work cardi is St Michael, purchased in 1993.
Still use Woolies kitchen items.
