I am currently wearing a summer nightie from British Home Stores.

Yesterday I was measuring a picture frame with a Woolworths ruler.

What about you?

And I got bag from Morgan and Kookai.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/07/2024 12:18

You're making me miss Bravissimo tailored shirts, they were great, sadly mine wore out years ago. I used to love them for work, especially a black one I had.

I got a little pang recently sorting through some seed packets and seeing the Wilkos logo. They were my go to shop for household bits and pieces, I'd only just got over losing Woolworths!

grywknd · 28/07/2024 12:18

A British Home Stores longline cardigan (much nicer than it sounds!) and dd is still wearing my C&A army-style jacket bought in the mid-eighties! I’d be wearing that one myself if I could still fit into it…

HauntedbyMagpies · 28/07/2024 12:44

@isthismylifenow We still have a United Colours of Benetton shop in my town?

CocoPogo Not so much hoarders as keeping hold of well loved and good quality stuff!

I didn't realise Monsoon and Habitat were no longer around. I have a Monsoon dress which I occasionally wear.

A quick rummage in the cupboard has produced a lovely soft blanket, inherited from MIL, from Brentford Nylons. It is soft and warm, the DC used to like snuggling up in it when they were poorly. It occasionally goes over our duvet on very cold nights.

Monsoon is still around, there's a store near me

FourChimneys · 28/07/2024 13:40

HauntedbyMagpies I'll have to have a look, I used to have quite a few Monsoon things.

Cardigan and fleece from C&A

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 28/07/2024 13:42

My eyebrow pencil sharpener is from Mizz magazine.

newpussmum · 28/07/2024 13:42

Fleece is from 1980s. D(Ex)H and I had matching ones!!

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 28/07/2024 13:43

C&a still exists where I live.

Back21970 · 28/07/2024 13:56

I have a hooded fur jacket from Richard Shops, a Etam blouse and BHS sandals - don’t wear any of them so really should put them on Vinted to see if anyone is interested.

Most of my lighting is still BHS - they had some beautiful stuff, it was the go to place back in the day for lamps and shades.

Still wear a Damart thermal camisole in winter occasionally that I bought in their shop maybe 30 years ago - now that is quality if you can get that long out of something 😀

I held onto some favourite clothes that I think were from Bay Trading in the late 90s. I loved their clothes. I wish I’d kept more clothes from back then as they’d probably be back in fashion by now.
There are some favourite products that are no longer in production which I periodically scour the internet for:

-St Ives Swiss hair repair conditioning treatment. It smelt minty and was glorious.
-Molton Brown used to do facial skincare; their face scrub was amazing.
-St Ives and Botanics used to have microdermabrasion scrubs that were so amazing; I don’t know why they stopped making them.
-Timotei shampoo. I miss that stuff so much. You can get it on Amazon but I don’t think it’s necessarily the same product as before.

It’s always the best things that get discontinued. It makes no sense to me.

fatFriendsFan · 28/07/2024 14:12

Top Shop jeans, BHS coat, lots of Debenhams things, MFI bed, Wilko plates, Woolworths cutlery, Bodyshop skincare

Does anyone remember The Pier? Quirky interiors and accessories. We have Christmas decorations and shelf ornaments, candle holders still in use. They must be 25 years old. We also have Links of London silver Christmas decorations that were gifted to us, are they still going as a business?

I rediscovered a camisole in my drawer this week - from St Michael, lol. Must have had it a while.. (ok, not technically meeting your brief as M&S is still with us, but this top is old).

Edited

Sell it! St Michael stuff goes for quite a bit on eBay!

Yes, I loved The Pier, I bought quite a bit from the Southampton store in the late 90s.

I bought a lovely rattan headboard and two bedside tables when I moved. I loved them gave them away 9 years ago when I moved again. I regret that now.

I have two crackle ceramic coasters that I still use occasionally.

Also Cargo, bought console/dining table and chairs from there.

Lovely shops, wish they were still around. 🙁

Littletreefrog · 28/07/2024 17:43

I got a huge blanket in Woolies closing down sale. Its used pretty much daily and has seen too many bodily fluids to mention but washes and dries well. Best £2 I've ever spent.

FourChimneys · 28/07/2024 19:17

Such wonderful memories here, I have enjoyed reading all the responses.

Two other things I have remembered today:

A coat from Debenhams. It says dry clean only but has been through a gentle wash a few times and comes out as good as new.

A mirror which my mother paid for with Green Shield Stamps. Does anyone else remember those? Like a very primitive loyalty scheme.

I remember green shield stamps

My nana used to take me to some department store and exchange them for pants and vests that were in a big wooden cabinet with huge deep drawers

We also had coupons in the petrol station and exchanged them for really nice soup bowls

God I sound old 😂

Was that Tiger Tokens? Possibly from Esso. My parents basically kitted out their whole kitchen with Tiger Tokens

ReframeFeelings · 28/07/2024 20:06

There is a series about all of these old shops (and Green Shield stamps!) currently showing on Channel 5.

henlake7 · 28/07/2024 20:36

I forgot. I have an old plate from Wilko. We bought two when we first moved in together 20 years ago. One broke ages ago. This is the surviving one.

Twilight7777 · 28/07/2024 21:32

I think the only thing I have that is from a shop that gone is probably Christmas ornaments.
