I am currently wearing a summer nightie from British Home Stores.

Yesterday I was measuring a picture frame with a Woolworths ruler.

What about you?

I was wearing a pair of shoes from Dolcis in an old photo I saw recently. I don’t still have them though sadly.

I totally forgot about them until you mentioned them. Blast from the past.

What happened to good shoe shops? There used to be so many and now I think there is only Clarkes or the really cheap ones.

TheMoth · 28/07/2024 00:05

Work shies from dolcis. Got them when I started teaching.
Dress and hooded Cardi from Pilot.

Anyone else remember Mark 1 and Internacionale?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/07/2024 01:08

A set of kitchen implements (fish slice, large spoon, spatula) from Timothy Whites.

Soditsally · 28/07/2024 01:42

I have my favourite pair of jeans that came from Peacock's over 15 years ago

They fit perfectly

I know some Peacocks still exist but none anywhere near me
They cost £10 and I prefer them to the £90 ones I had from Tommy Hilfiger ( was given a voucher to spend , liked them in the shop but not so much after wearing them for a few hours )

I know. I have a pair of Pied a Terre espadrilles somewhere too! I think they’re gone now.

Catsmere · 28/07/2024 07:29

Jewellery from Past Times. Used to get mail order catalogues from them (they never had shop fronts in Australia). Still miss that company.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 28/07/2024 07:34

My dresses are all from Bravissimo/Pepperberry, same with some of my summer tops.

I miss being able to buy dresses and tops that aren't tshirts or jumpers or stretchy.

I wore my Internationale sleeveless puffer yesterday.

I have not been to the UK in 20 years and I'm so shocked to hear of all the stores that have closed now.

I have quite a lot of jackets which I just cannot part with. One of them is Bench. The other is St Michael's wool hooded coat.
And I still wear some United Colours of Benetton bits.

I cannot believe Wilko has closed!

BlueBobble · 28/07/2024 07:36

I am currently sat under a BHS year-round duvet... also have BHS ceiling lights, and mugs.

Tristar15 · 28/07/2024 07:38

Cadela · 27/07/2024 23:44

I’ll never get rid of my Jamie jeans. I’m so glad I bought so many pairs. ASOS ones are not the same.

Also have a BHS nightie!

I wear Jamie jeans and agree that the ASOS ones are awful! My black ones are showing their age now and I cannot find an equivalent! Got loads of blue pairs thank goodness!

ShebaQueen · 28/07/2024 07:42

I have quite a few lamps from BHS that are still going strong, a dress from Windsmoor that I wore for Ascot many years ago, St Michael pillowcases, lots of Wilko stuff too

Allschoolsareartschools · 28/07/2024 07:45

A lot of my crockery is from BHS as I had it all on my wedding list years ago (when the list was a notebook & you tore out the page of what you wanted to buy!) I still miss their home department.
I got a top from a charity shop recently that was St Michael & it's such good quality.
I miss the high street branches of DP, Warehouse & Oasis & still have lots of clothes from them.

Jeezitneverends · 28/07/2024 07:46

A ceiling light from BHS about 23 years ago=I like it so much it moved house with us 3 years ago!
Numerous BHS towels and pieces of crockery
Christmas decorations from BHS and Woolworths

There’ll be more but it’s early and I’ve not had coffee yet😂

muddyford · 28/07/2024 07:46

Summer dressing gown from C&A. Another from Debenhams.
Christmas decorations from Woolworths.
I rarely shop in the high street and don't know what isn't there.

Brexit

Brexit

While I think a lot can be laid at the door of Brexit the shoe shops had started to disappear before that.

I went to Germany this year, Leipzig to be exact, and it was amazing to be in a city with shops that were open.

BigGrubbyFlowerPot · 28/07/2024 07:58

My colander was bought st a tupperware party in 1989 (I think) I like proper tupperware, I miss being able to get it. And my tea caddy I bought in Boots homeware department in 1992 for £3. (I think this counts as the homeward dept doesn't exist amymore).
I also have a StMichael underslip.

CaptainCallisto · 28/07/2024 08:00

Lots of stuff from Past Times.

I always had lots of their jewellery, but DH was a store manager for them when we first moved in together, so an awful lot of our soft furnishings/mirrors/ornaments came from there too. Also, most of our Christmas decorations. I miss that shop!

Roserunner · 28/07/2024 08:00

I have a black cardigan I wear for work from United colours of benneton that I love. If I'd have known it would have lasted me 25+ years I would have got more in more colours!!

gardenmusic · 28/07/2024 08:07

Kaliko, Kew (didn't last long), Alexon, the real Jaeger (before it became M and S). Artigiano. Jaques Vert, a lovely long fitted wool coat.
My very prolific pear tree came from Woolworths closing down sale.

Renamed · 28/07/2024 08:10

Woolworths: earthenware bowls, cutlery, clothes pegs.

Oh and a ladle.
Bed and mattress from Warren Evans, but I saw the other day that they’re back, hooray

Ohmych · 28/07/2024 08:16

I have some poly pockets from Woolworths. We were having a clear out and have far too many poly pockets but I wasn't partying with those.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 28/07/2024 08:18

A bodycon racer back vest from Sock Shop - god knows how old it is but DD still wears it!

I also have a St Michael white cotton dressing gown of my mum’s - I wear it all the time in the summer and it washes brilliantly, looks brand new. Can’t say the same for their current stuff.
