@StaunchMomma exactly. She wasn't confused she said he had done his time and has grown up and she actively backed him. She could have just not said anything, but she chose to speak out about him.

This is just shocking - she clearly defended him, and now says she was confused? From what i've read she hasn't called for him to be barred from the Olympics, just apologised for wishing him good luck.

He should absolutely be barred from the Olympics, and Paul's Radcliffe should be dropped from commentating.

There are minors competing in the Olympics- I can only imagine the extra pressure of having to avoid a convicted child rapist in the athletes village, as it's the girls who will have to look over the shoulders to ensure he's not around.

I'm shocked that he can represent the Neatherlands.

But I think we can conclude that Paula Radcliffe:
a) is not the brains of Britain
b) doesn't care about women or girls
c) doesn't care about sexual violence
d) is a total hypocrite and coward who will say whatever she's told to say

I sincerely hope to never see her involved with any charity for women or vulnerable people and I think she should lose any sponsorship deals she may still have (I recognise she's washed up at this point and maybe doesn't have any)

I also sincerely hope to never see her commentating on anything ever again. Because her opinion is worth nothing. She has poor judgement and will backtrack as soon as get out.

She's also issued a lengthy and heartfelt explanation of why she said, what she meant, what she was trying to express and an apology for doing it so badly.

I really admired her. She's not stupid, she is well educated, has a first class degree.

I cannot understand what goes through someone's head when they come out with stuff like this. Can they really not see further than some athletics bullshit? Is that really what's important in this scenario?

Written by her PR person. Look, I put my foot in my mouth sometimes like we all do, but I've never defended a rapist or wished him "good luck". She minimised his crime by saying "well he was only 19 at the time". Yes and his victim was 12. An actual child.

If he had harmed my child and was then parading around representing my country I would physically throw up.

It's 100% clear that Paula thought the rape was fairly trivial and that the Olympics are far more important.

She has that arrogant thing that a lot of sportspeople and celebs have. Where they think they have the right to commentate on matters far above their paygrade.

I look forward to the apology addressed to the victim of this crime and the sizeable charitable donation to a rape charity.
