So it would seem that in Paula's eyes steroid abuse "contested" is more serious than raping a child? I await to see how what she has said will affect her going forward. Ps, it won't.

The Dutch have a very different view on sexual offences to we do in UK. They have this image of being all liberal, but what that really means is they have state sponsored exploitation of women and children.

Daley is also a big trans activist of the most unpleasant kind, but I have some sympathy beciase I think he was groomed at a very vulnerable time in his life. I still don't think he should be given the voice that he is.

Presumably he is on the sex offenders register, so why is he allowed to stay in the olympic accommodation where, presumably, there will be young girls staying/competing?

I don't know what PR was thinking with her comments, I don't know how this disgusting man only served one year, I don't understand what the Dutch Olympic selection committee are thinking, I don't understand any of it.

If this guy really was a changed character then surely he wouldn't even attempt to put himself forward for the Olympics. He was told it was all over for him and yet he was pretty much straight back to it as soon as he got out. That takes some arrogance - and a complete disregard for the impact him competing in the public eye is going to have on his victim. How is that a changed man? Selfish and entitled more like.

Not sure if H (whose name is Ian Watkins) is being confused with Ian Watkins of thelostprophets? The latter is serving 29 years in prison, and is a serial paedophile - started off with 14 year old fans, and worked his way down the age brackets.

Police really dragged their heels in investigating him, instead repeatedly dismissing his ex as being a 'crazy ex persecuting her famous boyfriend' when she reported his activities. When she went to them with solid proof, they arrested her for possession of child abuse images.

Not quite sure H has ever done owt quite that bad...

To be fair to any PR person involved, she was so clear in her answer (and gave additional facts which showed clearly that she knew the case that was being talked about) that I don't see how anyone could reasonably walk it back in a way that was convincing.

Exactly, Paula Radcliffe was crystal clear in what she was saying, she knew all the details and referenced them, trying to scrabble around now to deny what she said or didn't mean it like that is utterly pathetic she meant every word.

Due to knowledge about Paula's behaviour in a particular instance I have never been a fan of her but even I never thought she'd stoop this low.

You said it Paula, you meant it just own up that you are excusing a paedophile rapist's crimes and couldn't give a shiny shit about the poor girl who is the victim.

I can accept that thieves etc can be reformed but a paedophile, imo, cannot be reformed. You like what you like when it comes to sexual preferences and you can't rewire your brain not to like what you like. It's inappropriate imo for him to be representing their country.

The offences took place in the UK, so presumably he's on the sex offenders register here. But it's not an international register. He lives in the Netherlands and is competing in France.

He should be banned from the Olympica and from professional sport altogether

I'm not all that surprised to find myself disappointed by Paula Radcliffe again, but I am quite shocked that she's been prepared to express support for a child rapist, whether because she believes he did nothing wrong or because her reading of the room was that it would be expedient for her career/public image to say what she did.

Whatever the motivation, I'm pleased that she's issued a prompt acknowledgement that this was not OK.
