Hi everyone, I've just seen that the BBC is continuing to allow Paula onto programmes to commentate. It's almost as if the Huw Edwards scandal has completely bypassed them! You'd think they'd be moving away from featuring sex offenders and their apologists on their programme!

It's driving me mad hearing her voice, I want to throw something at the TV.

I think i actually despise her

I heartily recommend a £6.99 Discovery+ subscription for the month. I can watch all the athletics without hearing from that total bellend.

Newsenmum · 06/08/2024 20:32

Eh, it’s the daily fail. They probably misquoted her and she just wished him luck to be polite.

GailBlancheViola · 06/08/2024 20:33

I wish I had done so Meow, I am enraged Paula is commentating due to her comments on the Dutch paedophile rapist but also because she is worse than fucking useless at it.

Watch the video of the LBC. Listen to her own words.

Read her grovelling apology.
"I do believe in second chances after serving punishment but think the Olympics should be for those who uphold the ideals - that's why I poorly brought the doping comparison in," she added.

"I myself am shocked and disappointed at how I expressed this so badly.

"I am very sorry and should have done much better. I by no means meant to overlook the crime and meant to say those who don't uphold ideals should be excluded but can't be.

"I profoundly apologise and am deeply shocked and disappointed in myself and can't understand how I managed to convey it so badly."

WTF?

There's a recording of her actually talking about it.

She really shouldn't be on TV now, what she said showed such a horrendous lack of understanding and empathy.

SureJanOK · 06/08/2024 22:25

Let's try and keep this thread bumped so that everyone watching Paula on the BBC knows she's a) a rape apologist; and b) a hypocrite who only backs down and says sorry cos her PR tells her to.

And so the BBC know we're sick of their sheltering sex offenders and their fans.

<waves to Paula's PR person>

A quick look at Twitter (I refuse to actually watch her on TV) shows me she's a VERY unpopular commentator anyway. Apparently she's dull af and speaks in a funny breathless voice.

Get rid, BBC. Chuck her back in the gutter where she belongs. Remember, she likes to shit there too!

Oh, that’s bad. Sad I was wrong about that. :(

It's the breathlessness that annoyed me, even before I knew she was a rape apologist

The BBC is clearly obvious to the fact they have never been held in lower regard by the public.

There needs to be an enquiry into sex offenders and their apologists being employed by the BBC, whether onscreen or not. And every rotten apple needs identified and chucked out.

Never ending BBC protection of paedos and paedophile supporters.

And neverendingly unaccountable.
It makes me feel physically sick.....

ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot · 07/08/2024 23:01

How could you say that. This 12 year old will never get another chance at life he has no doubt ruined her life. She is vile. Any to say there is a big difference between 19 and 29 ? How ? A 19 knows he should not rape a child. He should be banned from sport full stop and she should be sacked.

What ? I've just watched the video of her saying it all.

Porridgenpots · 07/08/2024 23:23

Yeah I saw this a while ago and it was mentioned on Another thread about the sex offender Olympian.

I’ve never been keen on PR , even as a child who was massively into watching athletics. I can’t remember why but I think she gave me racist and/or poor sportsmanship vibes.

It’s clear she absolutely meant what she said.
Someone said she’s a mother herself so she can’t have meant it like that? Unfortunately that is absolute nonsense.

She was very clear in what she said. And do you know how many women defend men when their own child or younger relative has been abused let alone a random child? It happens a lot sadly.

NotA6FigureSalary · 08/08/2024 12:49

Yep. My grandmother was of the opinion that I was a liar and/or slut when my mother told her what my aunt's boyfriend had done.

The Dutch have a very different view on sexual offences to we do in UK. They have this image of being all liberal, but what that really means is they have state sponsored exploitation of women and children.

"Under a treaty between the Netherlands and UK, Van de Velde was transferred to the Netherlands to serve his sentence. The sentence was at that time adjusted in line with Dutch law, and the charge of rape was substituted for that of fornication. After serving a year of his original four year sentence, he was released from prison."

This makes me so angry.

I hadn't heard that Paula said that until this thread has just come up in 'Active' today.
I mean, I really dislike her as a commentator - she's really annoying - but I realise that is personal taste, but I can't believe she has gone on record saying it is fine for a man who travelled to another country to rape a 12 year old is fine to be on the team, representing his country, and, as you say, being at the Olympics with all the young competitors that are there.

I'm appalled at the Netherlands' judicial system.

I'm appalled at the Team selectors.
I'm appalled at the Olympic Committee.
I'm appalled at Paula Radcliffe.
I'm appalled at the BBC,
