London Musicals - which one?

Buttalapasta · 17/07/2024 17:37

My (teenage) kids would really like to see a musical when we visit London next month. Any recommendations? Nothing Disney but it can be something that has been on for ages (and hopefully has cheap tickets!) as the only one we have seen is Grease! Thanks.

Following I love trips to London. Any hotel recommendations?

IggyAce · 17/07/2024 17:38

My teen enjoyed Six, Heathers and wants to see Wicked and Moulin Rouge.

IggyAce · 17/07/2024 17:39

@BowlOfNoodles last visit we stayed at Premier Inn Kensington Olympia and would happily stay there again.

Guys & Dolls often has deals on, it's immersive if you do standing and very, very good.

For cheaper tickets look at some of the smaller theatres rather than the big shows.

Once a week Wicked releases its front row seats for the following week for £30 each. I have a feeling this is done every Monday but all details will be on their website. Matilda used to do £10 tik tok tickets again all info will be on their website.

School of rock is amazing

stickthewellyin · 17/07/2024 17:43

The today tix app is very good for deals. Unfortunately the rush tickets are a maximum of 2 (apart from frozen) but they often have other good deals on there.

stickthewellyin · 17/07/2024 17:43

@Bettyscakes I think that closed in 2019!

Thank you I was the victim of bed bugs last visit lol 😆

GingerStepchild · 17/07/2024 17:45

Is Phantom of the Opera still on?
That or Chicago. It's brilliant.

reluctantbrit · 17/07/2024 17:46

What age?

You may stil find tickets at the KidsWeek page.

DD loved Hades Town, we saw it in NY last year, this year we go to Les Miserable.
Six is good, The Play that Goes Wrong.

@GingerStepchild phantom is still on. Quite a tourist show like Les Miserables so not often many deals on those sadly.

Chicago closed years ago.

stickthewellyin · 17/07/2024 17:48

By tourist show I mean always sells well to tourists as so famous so they don't need to discount much.

Isitisit · 17/07/2024 17:48

Operation Mincemeat is my latest favourite although it might still be expensive.

Hamilton is absolutely outstanding, seen it twice. Even though you have to travel we always stay at Greenwich as it's cheaper and Greenwich is gorgeous. Just jump on the ferry and that takes you into central London.

bruffin · 17/07/2024 17:51

It's a shame Babies has finished , it was so much fun!

Operation Mincemeat has cheaper tickets early in the week and is excellent!
Have a look at the Theatre Roulette

Guys and Dolls or Hamilton - obviously.

I saw Hadestown recently and it was pretty good - certainly seemed to appeal to the teen demographic.

I hated both Six and Wicked, but again they do appear to have many teenage fans (but any sensible parent accompanying them will have a grim night!).

seeminglyranch · 17/07/2024 17:55

Hamilton or even Back to the future depending what sort of thing they enjoy!

AuntieDolly · 17/07/2024 17:56

Kathy & Stella solve a murder - brilliant and tickets from £20

Gizlotsmum · 17/07/2024 17:57

Operation Mincemeat, Hadestown, Hamilton, Mean Girls the Musical or Back to the Future ( not seen this one) are all good or meant to be. I would go for operation mincemeat, small theatre, cheaper tickets mon-thurs

Romeiswheretheheartis · 17/07/2024 17:59

Cabaret, with Leyton Willams, sounds amazing. Immersive experience from the moment you arrive.

Buttalapasta · 17/07/2024 18:01

Wow! So many shows I have never heard of - I will have to look into them. I think they might like to see something quite spectacular as there is nothing really like that where we live.

@AthenaWhite I really like the idea of staying in Greenwich, thanks. Do you have any hotel recommendations? I’ve just had a Quick Look on booking.com & too much choice.

On musicals we loved Hamilton even if they’re not hugely into history etc.

ChessieFL · 17/07/2024 18:02

Back To The Future. It’s brilliant!

bruffin · 17/07/2024 18:12

i would second

Hamilton
Operation Mincemeat
Six
Back to the Future

My DD also loves Choir of Man and Hades Town and Two Strangers Carry a Cake but i havent seen yet.
