London Musicals - which one?

My (teenage) kids would really like to see a musical when we visit London next month. Any recommendations? Nothing Disney but it can be something that has been on for ages (and hopefully has cheap tickets!) as the only one we have seen is Grease! Thanks.

Agree with @reluctantbrit . We rarely pay more then £40/50 each for a seat. Try officiallondontheatre.com/kids-week/ or the tkts booth a day or so before.

Unfortunately kids week is too late for us.

I go to see Musical Theatre with my mum all the time. Most recently we saw MJ The Musical which is wonderful if you / your kids like and know the music of Michael Jackson. Honestly its like seeing him live, its that good. Moulin Rouge is another one. Or Abba Voyage out in East London.

The Hub by Premier Inn are great central hotels so you're not stuck out in the suburbs with huge tube journeys. They are cute, modern, 'pod' type rooms and appealed to my 15 year old son when we went immensely.

My DD has used it a few times and been very happy with what she has seen.
When we went together we got Mousetrap,
If you go more than once they do not give you the same tickets again and you can cross off one show you dont want.

DD has seen the following through Theatre Roulette

Book of Mormon
Mousetrap
Choir of Man
Two Strangers

I am a musical snob and looked down my nose at 'jukebox' musicals
Then I saw Moulin Rouge in NY last year and when I came back went to see it in London (and I NEVER see the same musicals twice as they are so expensive!)
It is a spectacular!

My teen DD also loves Six / Heathers / Mean Girls (as did I!)

Your Lie in April at the Harold Pinter is amazing. Probably one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It's based on a manga story but DD11 had never read it & still loved it as did DD15.
We've seen it twice as they thought it was amazing.

Fifiellz · 18/07/2024 11:19

We and our teens loved Mrs Doubtfire

Standing at the Skys Edge is the best musical I’ve seen in a long time. Absolutely phenomenal.

But it ends in a few weeks time 😢

i enjoyed it so much

Cabaret, with Leyton Willams, sounds amazing. Immersive experience from the moment you arrive.

My 17 year old recently saw and loved this. Also massive fan of Six, Hamilton and Les Mis. Loved Wicked and Matilda when she was a bit younger.

Thank you everyone. We got discounted tickets for Guys and Dolls and it was amazing!

Oh so glad you loved it !! Saw it on Thursday and was blown away ! Have seen most of the musicals but it was one of my favourites .

Was VERY glad not to be in the 'immersive' section though ! Could not see what might be good about it .

Buttalapasta · 26/08/2024 18:32

I thought it looked like they were having fun but I appreciated a sit down after a day on my feet!

Yes the standing section (flirting with the characters, getting moved on by "the cops" salsaing with the cast at the end) is great fun if you've been sitting at a desk all day, but I wouldn't want to do it if I'd been sightseeing on foot since breakfast.

Hamilton is absolutely outstanding, seen it twice. Even though you have to travel we always stay at Greenwich as it's cheaper and Greenwich is gorgeous. Just jump on the ferry and that takes you into central London.

Hamilton is like marmite…..many did not enjoy ( including me)
