London Musicals - which one?

My (teenage) kids would really like to see a musical when we visit London next month. Any recommendations? Nothing Disney but it can be something that has been on for ages (and hopefully has cheap tickets!) as the only one we have seen is Grease! Thanks.

Dd ( 16) and I went last week and saw Moulin Rouge. We’ve seen a lot of musicals over the years and this was her favourite.
We stayed at the Premier Inn County hall which was good and easy access for most places, walked to & from the theatre .

My teenage boys really liked Les Mis. The younger one also really liked Phantom, which is certainly spectacular.

Guys and Dolls or Hamilton - obviously.

I saw Hadestown recently and it was pretty good - certainly seemed to appeal to the teen demographic.

I hated both Six and Wicked, but again they do appear to have many teenage fans (but any sensible parent accompanying them will have a grim night!).

I found Hamiliton sleep inducing - and I love American Revolution history.

We have seen SIX several times and while I can't really get exited anymore, I find it actually quite well done. The cringyness is not worse than in some other musicals/movies I have to sit through as a parent.

Operation Mincemeat! Delighted to see it’s been recommended already 🥳 Absolutely brilliant. (I’ll be going to see it for the fourth time in January!!)

LIZS · 17/07/2024 18:18

Wicked, Matilda, Phantom, Les Mis, Six, Next to Normal(if they are older teens). If in August look out for Mischief Movie Night which is an improv show by the Play that Goes Wrong cast. Also check out Kidsweek tickets as you can get free or discounted seats for under 18s with an adult over next six or so weeks.

I’ve just taken my 16YO to see Wicked, Hamilton and The Play That Goes Wrong (not a musical). She LOVED all of them. She’s also see Les Mis previously and loved it. You can’t beat Les Mis for a showstopper. For The Play That Goes Wrong and Hamilton we had the cheapest, highest seats and the view was great.

That is in Wembley so not central London

bryceQ · 17/07/2024 20:23

Yes I know it's Wembley, I'm booked for December. Didn't realise it specified central only. Was just saying it's a fun show!

The last thing we saw was Matilda, and it was awesome. I’m not sure if it is still on.

Book of Mormon.

I went with my 21 year old a couple of months ago and it was absolutely brilliant.

PuppyMonkey · 17/07/2024 21:03

Guys and Dolls is amazing.

Going to see Hamilton next month and we’re also doing Lion King again because we all love it!

Meredusoleil · 17/07/2024 21:03

Our faves have been Six, Wicked, Matilda and Mamma Mia.

Disappointed with Sister Act.

Going to see Back to the Future soon!

WeWillGetThereInTheEnd · 17/07/2024 21:13

We saw “Cabaret” with Luke Tredaway and Cara Delavigne (sp ?). It was great; but I doubt the tickets are going cheap now?

bettyjane · 17/07/2024 21:19

Hamilton
hadestown was fab on Broadway, not quite as good on west end but still enjoyed it
Mean girls was good, really fun
heathers is good for that age group but not as good as the others for me
my teens liked Dear Evan Hansen but think that’s finished.

boysmuminherts · 17/07/2024 21:22

I didn't like BTTF but my boys did.
Two Strangers carry a cake is amazing - seen it twice.
Hamilton is also fabulous.

ProfessorGambol · 17/07/2024 21:23

Another vote for Two Strangers. Such a good show, funny and very sweet.
