It's so depressing. It's been dark for hours, now pissing down. Again.

Haven't worn any summer clothes
Haven't had a bbq / sat out in the garden
No paddling pool out
It's not cold it's just damp and humid

It's shite and I'm over it.

Rant over.

  1. August. Camping on the edge of Dartmoor with friends. It threw it down. The grass was so long we had to buy wellies.

So, one evening, kids in bed, rain hammering, we said 'why don't we go the bloody Spain?'

Next year, nothing planned, last minute DH did the maths. Villa price going down 6 weeks out, flights going up. Arrived at the Mallorca villa at midnight, dark, still, warm.

To bed.

Awoke to a chunk of light under our bedroom shutter, so I padded across the living room (trad Mallorcan finca) and threw the doors wide.

Sparkling pool. Blue sky. Bright sun. Olive grove. Tramantura mountains.

'Yes' we said.

And never looked back.

@catwithflowers my garden is underperforming. Some of the bedding that I planted 2 months ago still isn't flowering, the roses are sodden and flopping, and some of my potted shrubs are waterlogged and I think at risk of dying.

Yes, I've had very few flowers this years.

And there are NO insects... 😳

@Likewhatever thank you for your service!

It’s my super power @stilldumdedumming. Colleagues used to watch my calendar for holiday leave and plan their time off on the strength of it. I wish I was kidding. Early September if anyone needs to know.

Back to school clothes are now available.

Serencwtch · 16/07/2024 21:00

Looks like a few days of nice weather coming. Make the most of it if you can

tobee · 16/07/2024 21:20

Tipped it down again earlier, SW London

Sad
Ihateboris · 17/07/2024 06:47

Omg...woke up to real actual sunshine in Chester today!! What's it like where you are? Could this be the beginning of summer ☀️?

Oblomov24 · 17/07/2024 06:51

Raining ☔️ in Surrey, yet again. So fed up.

RampantIvy · 17/07/2024 06:55

Sunny here at the moment - South Yorkshire.

rewilded · 17/07/2024 07:40

Wow - blue sky this morning!

socks1107 · 17/07/2024 08:01

It's glorious here in south London today! I've got my summer trousers on. Friday looks really hot for us

Krumpets · 17/07/2024 09:13

Briefly had sun in the NW to lull me into thinking summer was here, now it's back to the usual grey skies. I don't usually love the full on baking sun or heat as I burn instantly, but I also do not want the endless grey and drizzle. I'd be so happy with just some clear blue skies, no rain for a predictable spell, and somewhere around 22 with some shade available! Instead we get insane heat and humidity (work is like a tinder box as no air) and unpredictable downpours all the bastard time. I think last year we had a decent week in May/June then one in early September and that was it. It has rained constantly.

Oh my god I know, but this weather!
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/07/2024 09:57

At least it’s not cold/raining today, but come on, this is not cricket.

Oh my god I know, but this weather!
tobee · 17/07/2024 10:03

Urgh! Last night it said sunshine for the next 14 days. This morning it's until Saturday when it's back to rain for 3 days then sun for 2 then back to rain.

Stupid long range weather forecast gave me false hope! If they can't do that far ahead, don't pretend! Hmm

Don’t blame you.

Nobody would ever prefer camping over a holiday abroad

The first morning of sunshine for months!

Oh my god I know, but this weather!
RampantIvy · 17/07/2024 10:39

Sat shivering in an office with aircon

fashionqueen0123 · 17/07/2024 12:37

23c here and sunny! Start of the summer hopefully!

the80sweregreat · 17/07/2024 12:43

Gonna be hot for a few days ..
.. hope it's not for weeks as I'll then start a it's too hot ' thread to wind up the lizard people amongst us who love it boiling.
Why can't it just ' be nice ' ( not too hot , not too cold etc!)

I would rather stay at home than camp.

@ssd

me too. Camping really doesn’t sound like much of a holiday in the uk weather. Why put yourself through it??!

I love camping, we’re going this weekend and the weather is playing ball ☀️☀️☀️. I enjoy the outdoors in general so maybe that’s why I like it?

HelloDaisy · 17/07/2024 23:09

I love camping too and sleep better in my tent than anywhere else but maybe that’s just the fresh air all day.

Plomant Hope you have fun camping at the weekend, forecast looks quite good so far…

We are camping next weekend so hoping it’s not too wet then!

Darkflame · 18/07/2024 08:20

I enjoy camping too and being out in nature. We're going away next week.
I love it when the weathers good, sitting out in the evening sun with a glass of Prosecco the dog and child tired out after a day's walking.
Not so keen when it rains as it makes it all a bit more difficult. Thankfully we now have a tarp shelter to cook under should the worse happen.
