It's so depressing. It's been dark for hours, now pissing down. Again.

Haven't worn any summer clothes
Haven't had a bbq / sat out in the garden
No paddling pool out
It's not cold it's just damp and humid

It's shite and I'm over it.

Rant over.

I was on holiday in Devon last week and it was absolutely miserable half the time and we had heaters on. Wearing jumpers. It's changeable as well. Ate out in a seaside town in the evening; warm, lovely sunshine. Decided we'd go for a walk around the harbour and buy ice creams. By the time we'd paid it was raining and misty and cold.

You can't plan anything much and the forecast is on and off for 2 weeks. A couple of ok days and then rain again. Pouring down here, humidity up but chilly and I find the rain quite claustrophobic.

I drove to Aldi the other day and it was muggy enough I had a t shirt on
Got out the car to a fine mist of rain. Came out of Aldi to torrential rain Confused
2hrs later there was some sun, then it vanished again

Love outdoor swimming but I'm a wimp with cold/rain and I've managed two swims this year Angry

tobee · 16/07/2024 00:19

Just remembered it was really lovely weather at Glastonbury for once! I was thinking "here we go! Summer!!!!" Fool that I am.

Whinge · 16/07/2024 07:03

So shit weather that is costing me a fortune.

You're not alone.

It must be also be have a huge impact on those who rely on the summer tourists / visitors. Most people I know have booked a holiday abroad, even those who would usually stay in the UK have had enough.

RamonaRamirez · 16/07/2024 07:33

When I moved to the U.K. in 2008 it pissed it down with rain all summer

My kids were only 3 and 5 and we had moved from a hot country so kids were wearing bij lines with holes cut in them Grin until I managed to buy them rain jackets

It set my expectations for living in the English climate

So far this summer has not been quite a as bad a that one!

And often September is nice 🤞🤞🤞

Cannot afford a holiday abroad so really trying to remain positive

Freysimo · 16/07/2024 07:41

My neighbour told me his 90 year old mother said it's the worse summer she's known. We live in Wales, so she's known a fair few!

WestofaCrave · 16/07/2024 07:46

It's absolutely crap.

We are always GUARANTEED bloody winter even if that just means never ending rain and flooding.

Food prices are going to be through the bloody roof as we really needed a good summer this year after a non existent one in 2023 😭

WestofaCrave · 16/07/2024 07:49

Bichette · 15/07/2024 21:32

I feel like it's been autumn for at least 9 months now.

Last summer was shite too. We had a few nice days in June 2023 and then the rest of the Year was a wash out. Farmers are really struggling. We were praying for a decent spring and summer this year to make up for last year. 😢

Lalalacrosse · 16/07/2024 07:54

When I was at school I remember that we were taught (or it was reported) that glacial melting would affect the ocean currents, which in turn would cause the Gulf Stream to move south of the UK, resulting in the UK being essentially cold and wet forever.

Nowadays, no one mentions that at all (the usual collective amnesia) but I’m wondering if it’s coming true.

We have sunny periods for a few hours, but the water butts have been full all year, I don’t have to water the garden, there’s a slug army, and the veggies won’t grow anyway as it’s too cold.

And what veggies do grow (pumpkin vines) I’m having to pollinate with feathers as there’s a noticeable lack of bees, butterflies, etc. I’d even welcome wasps right now.

stilldumdedumming · 16/07/2024 07:56

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I was talking to my mum about the summer of 1976. It was a UK heatwave.

That year sports day was last week. She went home for hats, gloves and scarves so we could watch my brothers do their races - it was that cold!

Don't give up hope!

socks1107 · 16/07/2024 07:58

The forecast looks really nice from tomorrow onwards. Low 20s and broken sunshine. Infact it's set to be 29degrees here on Friday

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 16/07/2024 08:00

I definitely need to up my water butt game. This weather would be fantastic if I could capture it all, for the inevitable heatwave

Devilsadvocat · 16/07/2024 08:01

I know its miserable but last night I lay in bed listerning to the rain and it was really lovely and soothing and also it meant I didnt have to water the garden in the morning.

I was in the last year at middle school that year.

It was boiling every day. Our sports day was really hot.

@RamonaRamirez dd was born in 2006 which was sunny. She was born in July. It was crap on her birthdays for about 4 years. We had a run of crap years then for ages. It was always sunny in April/March though.

LuckySantangelo35 · 16/07/2024 08:29

Cooper77 · 15/07/2024 22:48

This is just insane. It’s basically been grim since October. Winter here in Essex was foul - no frost, no snow, no cold sunlight glinting off the ice, just dinge and drizzle. Then we had the worst spring I can remember. There were about three days of sunshine in the whole of March. And this has been the worst summer I can remember as well. If it carries on like this until October, it will have been a whole year of gloom.

That said, I utterly loathe the heat, so at least we’ve been spared the torture of a heatwave.

@Cooper77

you find heatwaves “torturous” plenty of us don’t. I love them! Manifesting a heat wave 🤞 ☀️

22 and cloudy forecast for here on Friday, then back to rain on Saturday.

13 degrees and rain just now Sad

Likewhatever · 16/07/2024 08:46

We had snow in May 1976.

Likewhatever · 16/07/2024 08:48

Don’t panic guys, I’m going on holiday in September so you’ll have a heatwave then. Always happens when we’re away, I’m known for it!

stilldumdedumming · 16/07/2024 08:54

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow and @Likewhatever - and it's so variable so there is still time 🤞

It also snowed in May 1973 apparently - my mum was camping with 3 under 5 years old and 8 months pregnant with me. And it snowed! What were they thinking!?!!

BluebirdBoogie · 16/07/2024 08:55

We're off to North Norfolk for a few days and it's looking dry and sunny from Weds to Saturday! Just a heads up if you're looking for sun.

stilldumdedumming · 16/07/2024 08:55

@Likewhatever thank you for your service!

fiskal · 16/07/2024 09:25

@LuckySantangelo35

Well, when it's rainy and cool I immediately feel more relaxed and comfortable. I sleep better and I eat better. I feel more energetic and happy

When it's sunny I feel anxious and low. I don't like wearing sunglasses and hat but I have to because I find the glare of the sun too much.

I don't sleep well when it's hot and so I feel very tired. I don't fancy eating much (in fact I feel a bit revolted by lots of food options).

I hate feeling hot and sweaty. I'm
Scared of sunburn.

I worry about my garden parching.

I don't want to work or clean or cook or do school run

I don't like having curtains closed to stop the house over heating.

In short I hate sunny days unless it's winter.

But still I can understand how you all feel and for your sake I hope it gets a bit better soon.

fashionqueen0123 · 16/07/2024 08:57

Where is this? It isn't looking that good here. Although, I'll settle for anything over 20 degrees just now.
