It's so depressing. It's been dark for hours, now pissing down. Again.

Haven't worn any summer clothes
Haven't had a bbq / sat out in the garden
No paddling pool out
It's not cold it's just damp and humid

It's shite and I'm over it.

Rant over.

This must be the worst summer on record.

I got the paddling pool out a few weeks ago, no one has been in it since. I have to empty rainwater out of it every few days though.

It’s pretty much filled itself this evening, which is a new achievement.

Might have to start browsing some winter sun holidays.

Bichette · 15/07/2024 21:32

I feel like it's been autumn for at least 9 months now.

My dc are the same age as yours and started camping in France for the same reason!

Camping in torrential rain with small dc is no fun…

Well, i'm not a camper but I guess the thing that people enjoy about camping is being able to be outside a lot enjoying the warmth, playing ball games with the kids, swimming, sitting in the evening sun with a glass of wine waiting for the food to finish on the barbecue. Chatting to the people from the tent next door you made friends with. Going for an evening stroll on the beach or to the river. I really don't see the enjoyment in huddling in a tent while it pours down all day and night. If you just have to go out in the car to spend money on an indoor attraction then you might as well do that at home and at least you've got a warm dry house and mod cons around you.

SerafinasGoose · 15/07/2024 21:33

Everywhere feels damp. Even my skin. Low, grey, heavy skies hanging over day after day after day. Barely seen a blue sky or a sunset in weeks. And it's been like this almost without reprieve since at least last November.

I'm ready to go quietly mad.

Christy135 · 15/07/2024 21:33

The grass in my garden is up to my knees. The few days it’s been dry, I‘ve been working, and the rest of the time it’s been too wet to mow.

FrenchMustard · 15/07/2024 21:35

Agree OP, just hideous isn’t it.

went on holiday in June to Greece, so feeling thankful I at least had that bit of sun!!!

I feel your pain.

On the plus side, it seems I have a wildflower meadow where my back garden once was. Which is quite pretty actually!

London having some sort of rain event according to my local weather!

Doesn't look good!

I mean it is raining here (east London) but it's not the apocalypse or anything. Just solid rain as usual.

Saltyspray · 15/07/2024 21:38

Absolutely hate it. So many sports matches for the kids cancelled, dog constantly wet and muddy. MISERABLE. No sitting in the garden.

AhBiscuits · 15/07/2024 21:39

My courgettes aren't growing, they haven't had enough sun. The slugs are destroying everything and I fear they may take over the world.

halava · 15/07/2024 21:39

It's not the Mediterranean diet that keeps people in the Med region living until they are 150. It is waking up to a brilliant blue sky every single day. It is being able to sit outdoors on a lovely warm shaded patio or cafe. It is being able to go for an evening stroll and meet your neighbours and friends in a balmy town square. It is all those things and much more.

We are full of anti depressants, strategies for relieving stress, ads for raincoats, Vitamin D and all the rest of it.

I think the trick is to win a lot of money, spend late Autumn, Winter and early Spring in the Med region and come home to Blighty for a break from it all in the Summer! Yep I know, visa required, but if you've got the money.....

Solidarity with the grey sky haters!

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 15/07/2024 21:40

We are currently experiencing a "rain event". We basically means that it's like a cheap film where they through buckets of water to create a rain effect. Except that rather than being a couple of buckets of water, it has been going on for four hours and is due to last for a few more.
I was wfh today with a hot water bottle on my knee. I am going to a smartish do tomorrow and at gradually accepting that I will actually be in a base layer and thick tights under a winter dress rather than the summery frock and mules that I planned on wearing.
This is just ridiculous.
We are off to stay with grandparents for the first week of the holidays. We don't really fit in their house any more so need it to be sunny so we can spend loads of time outside and ideally put one or both of the DC in tents in the garden. It rained every day we were there last year so our free holiday cost a fortune and we exhausted all of the local activities.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 15/07/2024 21:40

I ts been so humid here yet cold at the same time, I came home earlier and all my wooden and tiled floors were soaked.

Why did you bother posting on this thread?

to break up the gloom fest a bit…

it’s not everyone’s bag, I know.. hang in there … brighter days are ahead

Are they? I’m not so sure. Been in the garden for one day so far this year . The evenings are drawing in.

Kinda the point of this thread is to moan about how shit the weather is though.

If you want cheering up read the rain appreciation thread Grin

big clue, it's not this thread

Leave us be to wallow in our endless mud and rain and gloom.

YANBU, but wait for the human slugs to turn up and say some things about puddle suits and ‘sweating at night in anything over 10 degrees’

Human slug here 😂, sweating at 10 degrees due to thyroid issues, but the weather is really crap.

East London too.. I would say this is not the usual.. it’s been constant and heavy for the last 2 hours.. the humidity has gone thankfully.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 15/07/2024 21:51

Yes, it’s fecking miserable, I hate it. Currently re-watching The Durrells on Netflix and fantasising about moving to Greece.

Gnomegarden32 · 15/07/2024 21:52

It's terrible. Dark and rainy. I don't even want to go on a holiday - I just want to be able to do my normal routine and exercise outdoors in some sunshine. Even my cats are depressed.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/07/2024 21:54

What's quite amusing is thinking back to the last few scorchio heatwaves in England and moaning about how hot and drained I felt and thinking that Scotland would be a better prospect with increasing temperatures caused by climate change.

It's very jetstream dependent, isn't it, our weather?

We're lucky enough to be going to California for a couple of weeks soon. We are keeping a close eye on the weather as they have had severe heat recently in cities like Sacramento and every year in California there are forest fires caused by heat and dry weather, made worse by the wind. So we're going to be going from trying to dodge the rain in this country to keeping an eye on which direction the wind is spreading the forest fires. It's mad there. Even Death Valley where it's nearly 50 degrees C has flash flooding when there's been a tropical storm.

Weather is wierd.

LindorDoubleChoc · 15/07/2024 21:54

I honestly think I'm going to go nuts over this weather. I feel like I've been patiently tolerating it for 3 years and tonight could be the night where it tips me over the edge!!

And I'm not even a hot weather fan, I just like some sun and a break from THE FUCKING FUCKING RAIN!!!!!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 15/07/2024 21:55

It does seem particularly shit this year.

Sigh.

DuesToTheDirt · 15/07/2024 21:55

@halava god yes.

One year we visited some friends in the Med, and I was very jealous of their summer lifestyle - a constantly round of outdoor activities like canyoning, picnicking, hiking, wild camping, barbecues. I thought, how nice to be able to plan these things and know you will get dry weather for them, and you won't be out getting drenched in the pouring rain, or decide to bail and just stay home instead.
