It's so depressing. It's been dark for hours, now pissing down. Again.

Haven't worn any summer clothes
Haven't had a bbq / sat out in the garden
No paddling pool out
It's not cold it's just damp and humid

It's shite and I'm over it.

Rant over.

It's been consistently awful and the 'oh I don't like it too hot' people can fuck off. I don't want heat I just want to wear shorts and a t shirt and not freeze to death.

Whinge · 16/07/2024 09:37

@fiskal What do you consider hot? I could understand a lot of your points if it was 30°, but all people are asking for is a week or 2 of 20°- 25° and no rain.

CherryBombe · 16/07/2024 09:41

For me it's the heavy cloud even on dry days. It's so claustrophobic. Just a bit of blue sky and sun would be lovely! I feel like I live in a ball of cotton wool.

fiskal · 16/07/2024 09:44

25 is my limit of comfort for sure. And in July 25 is more intense than, say, May. But I don't begrudge it! I know that UK weather is vastly tipped in the human slug favour.

I think the issue for me is humidity to be honest.

captainsudoku · 16/07/2024 09:53

I prefer 20-25 degrees C as well, but am fine with temps higher than that if there is plenty of shade (and a bit of a breeze). I don't think the weather gods are listening to me though!

Yes, it’s fecking miserable, I hate it. Currently re-watching The Durrells on Netflix and fantasising about moving to Greece.

I fantasise about moving anywhere warm. I'm a regular on French property sites. I might rewatch the Durrells too - although I'm worried it will make me even more depressed.

My parents live in south west France and sit outside for meals from around March to November. The majority of their life is outside except for during the hottest times of the day. Even they were moaning that it has been colder and wetter this year. Their standard of living and quality of life is so good and they're not rich by any means. I'm very jealous.

One of life's little joys is to sit in the garden on a warm evening with a glass of wine and a book. I think I have done that twice so far this year as both times I have been away coincided with any warm weather in the UK. Plus the garden is a mass of weeds which LOVE the rain. My bougainvillea - which is supposed to be covered in masses of bright pink flowers by now and usually is - has a few sad blooms that are a dull burgundy. I know how it feels.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 16/07/2024 10:15

I hear you @TheDogIsInCharge! I’ve told my husband that once we retire we are moving somewhere warm, and I’ll brook no argument. I’m meant for warmer climes anyway - despite being a fair-skinned northerner, anything below 25c feels a bit chilly to me, and I need it to be over 30c before I’m properly warm!

Many moons ago, I was working on a Greek island for the summer (back when you could still do that ☹️) and I briefly dated a young Greek man who was keen enough to take me home to meet his mother and show me his olive groves (not a euphemism!)

Warned by local friends this meant he was gearing up to propose, commitment-phobic me dumped him immediately - but at times like this, and despite loving my Brit DH, I do think wistfully on what might have been….☀️🏝️

I'll believe that when I see it/feel it!

@fiskal

its not humid though

fiskal · 16/07/2024 10:50

I think it is. I think UK is constantly humid. I think the climate is defined as humid.

My neighbour told me his 90 year old mother said it's the worse summer she's known. We live in Wales, so she's known a fair few!

My 80 year old dad said the same. He reckons he has never known weather like it in his life. We live in west Central Scotland, so he's seen a lot of bad weather! It's basically rained here for a full year.
Forecast is for 15/16 degrees and rain until the end of the month.

It’s horrendously humid. I hate humidity, since the menopause l can’t function in it.

I seem to be struggling with humidity all the time.

Just need to get through today, then it’s looking much better for the ten day forecast here 🤞

Where do your parents live in SW France? I’m so envious!

The BBC weather forecast app shows the humidity hour by hour. It's 77% at the moment where I am. This is not in usual.

*unusual

LuckySantangelo35 · 16/07/2024 11:31

SE England. But the forecast keeps changing..really hoping it sticks with this one!

Fizbosshoes · 16/07/2024 11:52

Ours (south east/east of England) goes up to 26 on Friday and then 20- 22 next week. Not what I'd classify as a heatwave but a considerable improvement! Only 2 or 3 days of rain in the 14 days too 🤞

Similar here. It’s forecast 18-20 for the next 10 days and cloudy/raining. There’s hazy sunshine one day next week (Tuesday).

I wish! Says it's getting warmer but no chance of blue skies in my area! It's cool and damp and trying to drizzle atm - I have stuff on the airer that's not drying! 🙃😔😔😔

I don't care if its freezing cold, just, please, CAN THE RAIN STOP.

High temperatures and cloud/no sunshine = humid. I'll take that over endless rain though.

Oh no. Get to the south for the weekend!

AutumnBride · 16/07/2024 13:26

Drives me mad that we've had a few nice week days and then it's been raining at the weekend when I want to do some gardening and have lunch outside.

I should be out until 9pm at least enjoying the warm weather and pottering.
