It's so depressing. It's been dark for hours, now pissing down. Again.

Haven't worn any summer clothes
Haven't had a bbq / sat out in the garden
No paddling pool out
It's not cold it's just damp and humid

It's shite and I'm over it.

Rant over.

Yanbu

Was back in the UK last week and it was like a bad autumn

Damp, 12 degrees

Had jeans on all week

DuesToTheDirt · 15/07/2024 20:56

And of course it's St Swithin's Day, so that's 40 more days of rain. But then we knew that already.

coxesorangepippin · 15/07/2024 20:57

Getting washing dry is a total ball ache

piscofrisco · 15/07/2024 20:58

My roof is leaking due to the biblical rain. I've just shut the door on it and gone to bed. Fucks sake.

BoobyDazzler · 15/07/2024 20:59

It is so depressing

RubyGemStone · 15/07/2024 20:59

I've never considered emigrating so strongly before.

fiskal · 15/07/2024 21:00

Human slug here. I love it. But I am sorry for all the sun lizards - I get that this weather is unfair. Where I am it's supposed to be dry and warm at end of the week?

Likewhatever · 15/07/2024 21:01

We set up our pool three weeks ago, no-one will go near it, it’s freezing. Had to drain two inches of rainwater out of it tonight. It going to be one of those summers when we set the thing up and then look at it till October when it comes down.

RampantIvy · 15/07/2024 21:01

We had such a violent torrential rain storm a few weeks ago that the pressure of water pushed the rainwater back up the pipe that drains the boiler. We had a waterfall pouring out of our boiler. The electrics tripped and I filled several buckets of water before it subsided.

We had to get a plumber out to repair the boiler the next day as we had no hot water.

GalacticalFarce · 15/07/2024 21:01

It's really crap. Every school event and every invitation I've had outdoors has been grim. Can't plan a flipping thing.

FannyPowder · 15/07/2024 21:01

Shite here in Cambridgeshire.

But the thing is it's both miserable grey and rainy in the day AND humid enough at nights that you can't sleep well.

Wtf is that about. If I'm going to sleep uncomfortably I want it to be sunny and nice during the day.

RampantIvy · 15/07/2024 21:03

It's cold at night here in South Yorkshire.

Today has been the first warm day for ages.

Waitingfordoggo · 15/07/2024 21:04

We’ve had several seasons in one day where I am on the south coast. It was grey and quite cold this morning, warm and sunny this afternoon and then biblical rain earlier this evening. Calm and still now.

spikeandbuffy · 15/07/2024 21:05

I just want to wear my new sandals and not be carrying an umbrella every day Sad

fashionqueen0123 · 15/07/2024 21:05

garlictwist · 15/07/2024 20:55

Not where I am! 16 and raining on Saturday. We are meant to be going camping. Will prob sack it off.

Yes that would be grim!
Forecast is 23 for Saturday here. Actually in time for summer holidays for once!

And here I was just complaining to DH our sky signal has gone down!

spikeandbuffy · 15/07/2024 21:06

Oh look, more rain and cloud
I don't count muggy as a nice day!

Oh my god I know, but this weather!
rewilded · 15/07/2024 21:07

I haven't seen the sun here for months. Dense grey cloud...day after day...after day...after day...

We are camping in Cornwall next week. No chance! We are booking the first flight outta here!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 15/07/2024 21:08

It is biblical rain here in Shropshire right now. Awful bloody summer!!

VolvoFan · 15/07/2024 21:08

Yep. We're not getting a summer this year. If this is the maximum temperature now, winter is going to be unbearably cold, and heating costs a fortune. Good luck to everyone, I say.

RampantIvy · 15/07/2024 21:08

I think the rain lovers on mumsnet:

Don't have children
Don't like being outside
Live in big houses
Own a tumble dryer
Don't have pets
Have plenty of money

@fiskal

just out of interest, why do you love it?! Genuinely curious!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/07/2024 21:10

The summer weather was often like this when my sons (now aged 20 and 18) were young. At the time we could only afford a week self catering in this holiday for a number of years. After one totally depressing wet week at a Haven in Cornwall which was like a prison camp we tried to book nicer independent places which did cost a bit more but at least if the weather was shit it wouldn't feel quite so prison camp-y. However after a few years of being fed up looking out at lovely patios or balconies we werent able to use, which actually cost quite a lot, with rain pouring down the window, we just went to France self-catering instead. Much better! And cheaper. And far, far sunnier.

RampantIvy · 15/07/2024 21:11

It's not just the farmers and charity events that are losing money, but local businesses that rely on tourism. There is a campsite doen the road from me and he is always advertising last minute deals for the sheperd's hut because people keep cancelling.

Not necessarily. We've not had a freezing cold winter in England for quite a few years now.
