It's so depressing. It's been dark for hours, now pissing down. Again.

Haven't worn any summer clothes
Haven't had a bbq / sat out in the garden
No paddling pool out
It's not cold it's just damp and humid

It's shite and I'm over it.

Rant over.

I've been feeling so grumpy today, and whilst hormones are the main culprit the weather is not helping, not helped with having both dteens off school with covid, so the general household mood is oppressive.
If the sun was shining at least I could make up beds (sun loungers) for the kids and they could get some vid D and a bit of sunshine to help kill off the virus. But it's been really grumpsvile here today.

Bloom15 · 15/07/2024 21:11

It was vaguely nice (for April or May) this morning and now back to rain! Having a hard time at the minute and the weather isn't helping

It's making me feel so desperate! I want to organise a march against it or something! I can't even afford a holiday this year. 😡

I will join your march!

We will need raincoats.

RampantIvy · 15/07/2024 21:13

Covid seems to be on rise again. I wonder if it is because more people are spending more time indoors?

Oblomov24 · 15/07/2024 21:13

FFS. It's pissing here. Constantly. So fed up.

Getting washing dry is a total ball ache

I bought a dehumidifier in the Spring. Game changer for drying washing. Hang it on the maiden, dehumidifier on, close the door to that room, and it dries much quicker. I can't believe how much water comes out.

Xyz1234567 · 15/07/2024 21:15

Rain forecast every single day for next 10 days where I am. Utterly unacceptable!

Being in Scotland, it's a flipping nightmare trying to drive from here to France, especially in my old banger. About a 50% chance we'd make it. Hell, I'm not even allot drive into Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee or Aberdeen anymore 😔

Ihateboris · 15/07/2024 21:16

It's pissing it down in Chester. Absolutely fucked off with it now. The forecast is GRIM

I think the rain lovers on mumsnet:

Don't have children
Don't like being outside
Live in big houses
Own a tumble dryer
Don't have pets
Have plenty of money

Yes.

Im skint and live in a small cold house with howling cats going bonkers from boredom, and the tumble dryer on makes us unable to afford petrol 👍

Cue Tories telling me to work harder.

Just joining in to say ugh, it's absolutely ridiculous, I'm still in full winter clothes, jumpers, jeans, trainers, absolutely sick of it. We're going to Turkey in a few weeks and I absolutely cannot wait!

I did read somewhere that because it's shaping up to be a particularly active hurricane season, that might shift the jetstream and improve our weather in a few weeks. Bad for those affected by the hurricanes though...

I just want to wear my new sandals and not be carrying an umbrella every day Sad

This! How can rain lovers not want this?!

The summer weather was often like this when my sons (now aged 20 and 18) were young. At the time we could only afford a week self catering in this holiday for a number of years. After one totally depressing wet week at a Haven in Cornwall which was like a prison camp we tried to book nicer independent places which did cost a bit more but at least if the weather was shit it wouldn't feel quite so prison camp-y. However after a few years of being fed up looking out at lovely patios or balconies we werent able to use, which actually cost quite a lot, with rain pouring down the window, we just went to France self-catering instead. Much better! And cheaper. And far, far sunnier.

Ah yes, you've just reminded me of a 10-day summer holiday in Yorkshire 20+ years ago, with 2 pre-schoolers. The first day was glorious. The rest of the holiday it rained every day, all day. There is a limit to the number of indoor places you can take 3 year olds for entertainment.

Ahh this reminds me of pontins in a caravan in 1998. Good times 😂

No idea how I didn't get 2p poisoning that week.

Newsenmum · 15/07/2024 20:41

It’s looking hotter and sunnier from Thursday for about a week at least!

It’s warmer but it’s not going to be sunny here. Thoroughly depressing. The forecast said last weekend would be dry but it rained all weekend. It feels like it will never stop!

Oh my god I know, but this weather!
GlassHeart1 · 15/07/2024 21:22

@longdistanceclaraclara I remember, it was the year when I had umbrella out EVERY SINGLE DAY!

My dc are the same age as yours and started camping in France for the same reason!

Camping in torrential rain with small dc is no fun…

Ah yes, that makes it far more of a ballache. We're in NW England and the drive back from Folkestone on the way back used to drive me insane sometimes, stuck in traffic. Wouldn't have wanted to do it from Scotland. I feel for you.

rockstarshoes · 15/07/2024 21:26

London having some sort of rain event according to my local weather!

Doesn't look good!

Oh my god I know, but this weather!
BigFatSober · 15/07/2024 21:26

It definitely puts the kibosh on any sort of camping.

I did hear it's meant to get a bit nicer later in the week though so hopefully will be OK for the school holidays

catwithflowers · 15/07/2024 21:27

I've had the log fire going twice in the last week 😬. Today was pleasant, quite warm with about an hour of sunshine. But jumper weather later on in the day. Tomorrow we are forecast more bloody rain and thunderstorms.

The only positive is that the gardens are looking good.

Darkflame · 15/07/2024 21:28

I am sick to F-king death of this rain, grey and cold. I love seasonal weather, snow and ice in Winter, April showers and rainbows in Spribg etc but it's just constantly rained since July last year.
Can't plan anything because of the weather. Feeling stressed about camping in 10 days because of the weather. Wish this rain and cold wind would just F-k off! It's getting me and everyone I know really down.

DuesToTheDirt · 15/07/2024 21:29

@catwithflowers my garden is underperforming. Some of the bedding that I planted 2 months ago still isn't flowering, the roses are sodden and flopping, and some of my potted shrubs are waterlogged and I think at risk of dying.

CobaltQueen · 15/07/2024 21:29

Highly depressing and irritating now.
The humidity and darkness is so migraine inducing as well.
I absolutely hate UK summers as it's never a pleasant heat when we do get sun, but this year has taken the absolute piss. It rained a lot last year and thought it was just an abnormality but here we are again. Will probably have a horrible heat wave early September like last year also. No happy medium.

DatingDinosaur · 15/07/2024 21:30

Has it been raining? Grin

Why is it that when rain is forecast, the forecast is always correct. When sun is forecast, the forecast is always wrong.

Just trying to content myself with 'not raining' whenever possible but, dear god, it would be nice to feel some sun on my old bones.
