Amazon Prime Day - what are you buying?

I love a bargain and regularly wait for Prime Day in order to see if something that's been in my Amazon basket for a while, drops in price. What are you buying this Prime Day week?

Those looking for steamers to freshen things up, if you don't mind fabric conditioner I recommend a tablespoon to a small spray bottle of water, a light spray of this on cotton/linen etc, leave to hang and the creases disappear. More stubborn ones vanish if you smooth them with your fingers. Worth a try if you already have some in the house.

Edited to add - getting the creases out of a single tumble dried T shirt is exactly what I use this for. Works a treat. You only need a very light spray, barely damp and certainly not wet.

Edited

I do sometimes just spray with plain water but I'm one of those who can't bear the smell of fabric conditioner unfortunately.

I'm a bit suspicious of Amazon PD. I was just looking at it and saw some Bose noise cancelling head phones (Soft case) for £179 supposedly 44% cheaper prime day. I know how expensive Bose headphones are so I googled for full price to compare and Bose are selling it for exactly the same price on its own website.
It's the hardcase one that is more expensive and I suppose if you are spending that much on headphones you really do need a hard case.

A few other times I've cross checked prices on Google the Amazon one isn't a great deal at all it's just it was more expensive to start with and is cheaper on other sites.

Left me feeling it's a bit of a scam. I know there are one or two really good deals to be found but it only really works if you want a Specific Product (ususally electronics) would have bought it anyway and wait and are lucky it is one of the really good genuine deals.

The rest of the time you risk getting suckered into buying something you didn't really need because youthinks its a great deal when in fact like the Bose headphones isn't at all.

Well yes, but that's the same as buying anything.. you always hunt around and check other shops/sites. Don't just assume Amazon is the best price.

Mostly boring household things - got a great deal on dishwasher tablets last year!

Thank you for mentioning that, I've had a 3 pack of dishwasher tablets in my basket for a while now and Amazon are doing it for like £15 cheaper at the moment!

I basically buy dishwasher tablets a year at a time on Prime Day!

DeathMetalMum · 16/07/2024 17:24

I've also bought a tin of white satinwood paint at half price for £6.

RumNotRun · 16/07/2024 17:46

I got some Cheeky Panda toilet roll, 24 rolls for £10. I am so disappointed in myself for buying something sensible instead of something fun.

Oh bless you. Did you somehow think that Mumsnet was a public service provider funded by unicorn tears?

New AirPods for DDs 16th birthday tomorrow. as her old ones are knackered. Reduced from £122 to £96.

I decided to splurge and ordered a pair of Sony XM4 over the ears headphones. My daughter has an even nicer pair of Sony XM5's, but I couldn't bring myself to spend that much. They were 44% off for prime day, so a good deal.

If it helps I have the XM5s and am considering splurging on the XM4s because I really miss them and regret upgrading last year! I think the 4s were much better

spriots · 16/07/2024 18:04

Another boring purchase from me - oatly barista milk

well i thought mumsnet was a parenting site and not an Amazon gimp

InvestinITMN · 16/07/2024 18:09

Very happy with a smart tv purchase here that i’d had in my basket for weeks but could not justify the splurge

PD knocked off a whopping 35% so it went from basket to Orders!

Good to know, thanks. My daughter loves her XM5s. The XM4s collapse which makes them easier to pack, which she wishes the XM5s did. She'll have to help me set them up.

I don't know if the Amazon UK site has them on offer or not, I got them on the US website.

What handheld hoover did you go for @AddictedToBooks ?

Well never assume Amazon are cheaper. Always hunt around. But then also factor in free next day delivery or named day depending on what suits best.

Its come to my attention that some items are also on pay monthly with no fees.

I was recently looking for a new phone, and some were offered on this pay monthly. I got one and if you want to pay early or make an extra payment because you can, they let you. And the phone was the same price everywhere. Factor in free next day delivery and potentially paying over 10 months and it was a bargain.

Back to prime day.

MissConductUS · 16/07/2024 19:10

A lot of other websites are matching Amazon Prices for PD.

DilemmaDelilah · 16/07/2024 19:14

I bought DH an outdoor camera last year and he loves it - it notifies him when anything moves into view and he enjoys watching the badgers that visit us every page evening/night. He asked for another one for Christmas - they are so cheap now I bought him two! He can put another one in the back garden and one at the front as well.

BeccyMumsnet · 16/07/2024 19:40

@yepandagain we do indeed. Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

And you're right, apologies that my post wasn't clear. I meant we are happy to help find some deals to share on this thread, not redirecting you to the other one 😅

What handheld hoover did you go for @AddictedToBooks ?

It's only a little YurDoca - never heard of it before but it had really good reviews.
My heart sank when it arrived as it was so light and looked like a hairdryer (I'd expected the looks but not for it to feel lighter), but I managed to do my entire staircase with it and all of the deep buttons on a Chesterfield sofa and it's still got battery life and has decent suction and loads of different tools.
Only negative is the cylinder is so tiny that I had to empty it 3 times - but it's rechargeable on a USB and really easy for me to use (I have cervical arthritis and weakness on my entire left side and have found a lot of hoovers too heavy).
For just over £28 I'm impressed.
It's 180w peak power

I want a handheld clothes steamer.

I got one ages ago, it was a bit of a disappointment tbh and now sits in a box on a shelf in my bedroom. The last time I used it was to get some creases out of new curtains, it was ok but did take a lot of work and didn't really live up to the hype.

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 16/07/2024 22:54

MattDamon · 16/07/2024 10:22

Boggle and Yahtzee, both down to £6.49/£6.99.

Edited

Do you have the link, please?

I'll report back! I can always sell it. I don't plan to stop ironing but it would be for when tee shirts have been ironed and then got creases in a drawer that sort of thing.
