I’ve woken up to my right buttock being absolutely black and blue

And I don’t know why?!

I did no activities last night. I haven’t fallen out of bed. I didn’t fall over at all yesterday. It’s just randomly bruised and it’s bloody sore

Yes actually. I tried to ease the pain by giving myself a bit of a massage on the area. Didn’t think it would have been hard enough to bruise though

I was going to ask had you seen a physio with your sore back. I ended up bruised after a physio session although it wasn't a tough one, l thought

Ack. You got it!! I’m dead. Grin

no I haven’t fallen over the last few days. And yes it hurts. It’s really sore

I could be anything from hard exercise, though that is a large bruise, to a blood disorder and everything in between. Are you on any type of blood thinner? How is your diet? I know there are vitamins that, if not enough, you can bruise easier. K is one, and not sure of any others D or C?). Also, anemia can make you bruise easier, though there are usually other signs that point right to that.

Low platelets, too much ibuprofen (or whatever it is called in the UK., and many diseases can cause this, but I am not going to go to worse case scenario, as that does not help. Are there other symptoms? Fatigue, severe pain, nosebleeds, heavier than normal menstrual cycle?

I once did a lot of leg exercises and the next day had bruises around my upper thigh and at the knees. Worried me until the gym trainer told me that I over did it.

Put ice on it for now and don't take any OTC pain relievers like asprin, ibuprofen or Aleve (whatever the ingredient in there is can cause bruising if over-used).

Or call whomever does the over the phone triage if putting ice on it doesn't thrill you. If you do use ice, only 20 minutes at most every few hours.

How big in area is the bruise?

Cocolapew · 13/07/2024 18:47

My FD gave me a bum massage to loosen my muscles and I had a massive bruise the next day.

If it is sore and irritated enough, you could have bruised it from massaging it, especially since you bruise easily.

I bruise easily and once got a massage that was pretty hard (bad neck/back pain). It felt good while it was being done but the next morning, I was all black and blue and could not lay on my back or sit against anything for 2 days. The same thing happened from a massage chair that I set a LOT bit too high.

Sometimes if I have to get up during the night and I'm still half asleep I tend to bump into things, once I misjudged the en suite door, opened the door onto the landing and walked smack into the edge of the door frame opposite, though it certainly woke me up properly.

Relaxd · 13/07/2024 18:59

Unexplained large bruises should be checked by a doctor just in case there is another reason for what is essentially internal bleeding. There are heap of reasons that could cause this where it is not from an injury. You also mention you bruise easily so it may be just that - but I’m sure they will advise to run some blood tests just to be on safe side in case there is something underlying.

MoreHairyThanScary · 13/07/2024 19:00

You say you bruise easily and you've had pain over your buttocks / bum I suspect you've rubbed the site and caused further bruising which has tracked down due to the position you sleep in.

If you are bruising that much you need to check in with the GP anyway and get some bloods done. Maybe check if any of the meds you currenttake are having an impact ( not necessarily just anticoagulants)

HashtagShitShop · 13/07/2024 19:06

I do the same but I'm on aspirin as part of my BP meds and apparently it's likely that and looks like massive bruises from tiny knocks

Spider bite?

A spider with a baseball bat by the looks of it!

ABirdsEyeView · 13/07/2024 19:25

I got this her. I hashed my bum on the bed post. Didn't think much of it at the time beyond 'ouch'. But in a couple of days I did see a bruise - just hadn't noticed it earlier cos it was on my bum, so not in my usual eyeline.

Twilight7777 · 13/07/2024 19:40

You haven’t been using a massage machine have you, like those ones that you wear on your shoulders or sit in chair one, I only ask because I acquired one and hadn’t realised how strong it was until I saw a couple of bruises.

No was just using my hand but that’s how badly my butt ached.

I didn’t know about ibuprofen though. Took two doses today. Will stop that now till it’s healed

@BirthdayRainbow hi 👐🏼

Hmm1234 · 14/07/2024 18:06

This sometimes happened to me when I used to fall asleep on the sofa. The pressure I think from the cheap springs

Have you used hot water bottles on it at all?
I remember my nan once ended up with something that looked a bit similar from overusing hot water bottles that had been done too hot - I'm talking boiling water from a kettle hot!

Noseybookworm · 14/07/2024 20:41

Sleepwalking and bumped into something?

Troymaiden · 14/07/2024 21:21

Bruising can be sign of potassium deficiency, suggest you get checked out, especially if you normally bruise easily.

Jeannie88 · 14/07/2024 22:12

Bruising can be from days before. Also I would go and see doc as if a slight knock when you have thin blood can accentuate the scale of it. Xx

I sleep alone. Dh gets handsy(sexually. He has sexsomnia)whilst asleep so we have to sleep alone.

it definitely wasn’t there yesterday. I have woken up to it. Yes I take sleeping medication but no I didn’t fall over or bang it on anything

I think this may have answered your question. A combination of sleeping medication you took and your DH's condition probably caused it.

MelodyFinch · 15/07/2024 00:19

Prednisalone steroid meds cause bruising. My baby left a line of bruises from kicking my stomach during a night change. It could be something like that.

Pliudev · 15/07/2024 09:28

I woke up with an enormous purple bruise on my very pregnant belly. I rang the midwife (having visions of the baby trying to find an alternative way out) and the call had to be relayed via the ambulance service because we're rural and it was the weekend. Had a bath while waiting for the emergency midwife and the bruise washed off. Then I remembered splashing water on my new cheesecloth skirt the previous evening. Cue much laughter at the ambulance station when I rang to tell them. You weren't wearing purple pants and sat in a puddle yesterday OP?

RecklessGoddess · 15/07/2024 15:50

Soubriquet · 13/07/2024 15:50

No. Bed frames been broken for nearly a year. It just isn’t a priority for me to get a frame when the mattress is fine. I haven’t had sex for a couple of months.

The top of my bum has been hurting for a couple of weeks but this is the first time any bruising has come up. I definitely did not bang it

In that case, I would be heading to seek medical help. Something is clearly wrong, if you have been feeling pain for a couple of weeks before the bruising appeared!

Hey, how did this turn out as in exactly the same position, bruised bum but not explanation
