I’ve woken up to my right buttock being absolutely black and blue

And I don’t know why?!

I did no activities last night. I haven’t fallen out of bed. I didn’t fall over at all yesterday. It’s just randomly bruised and it’s bloody sore

I had my knee go black once and went to gp
and they did bloods. The only thing that I think caused it was sitting in a car for a few hours and then sitting at an all day meeting and coming home again. I was on my way back and said to my colleague my knee is really painful and the next day was like yours. So I got a bruise from basically nothing 🤷‍♀️ I would still go or at least call as they wanted to rule out any blood issues

ricecrispiecakes · 13/07/2024 16:03

That doesn't look new.

I have a massive bruise in the same area from slipping down some stairs last week and mine looks like that about now - so 10 days later.

SmudgeButt · 13/07/2024 16:03

Used to get similar all the time and then I realised it was due to the chair I used at work. It would get in the way and I'd kinda butt check it into position. Sometimes that would work and I'd half land on one of the arms.

I have bruises everyday but none as big or bright as this

I think you need to contact your GP. Unless it is a hazard of your job having bruises every day isn't normal.

DoIWantTo · 13/07/2024 16:05

If your mattress is on the floor it’s likely you’ve shifted in your sleep, I’d not be going to a&e for a bruise no matter how much it confuses you how it got there.

MixedCouple2 · 13/07/2024 16:06

Thin blood? Anemic? Get it check out by Gp. Maybe some meds you take..asprin etc

50shadedofmagnolia · 13/07/2024 16:11

I once woke up with a huge bruise on my leg.
It had been aching all day but I'd not knocked it or anything.
I showed it to the pharmacist and he was concerned about blood clots and advised me to go to a and e.
Turned out to just be a vein that had popped and nothing to worry about.

Have you been unusually groggy in the morning at all? Any other unexplained pains or marks? Is it possible DH's "sexsomnia" has acquired an ambulatory component?

That's what I was also thinking 🥲

meisafairy · 13/07/2024 16:13

Are you on blood thinners? When I started Clopidogrel I was warned that I would bruise easily and randomly often from the lightest knock.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/07/2024 16:17

Did you let a car door swing shut on you yesterday? I got some spectacular bruises from that (parked sideways on a hill) and it really didn't hurt at the time.

Soubriquet · 13/07/2024 16:19

Definitely no car door, no to blood thinners and I don’t appreciate people accusing my dh after I told you I am 150% positive it wasn’t him

Thanks. I’ll keep an eye. I will admit I bruise easily. I have bruises everyday but none as big or bright as this

When you say you have bruises every day, do you mean you just knock yourself and one appears quickly? If so, please see your GP to have a blood test. Most likely it's anaemia, but it could be something else.

No. Bed frames been broken for nearly a year. It just isn’t a priority for me to get a frame when the mattress is fine. I haven’t had sex for a couple of months.

The top of my bum has been hurting for a couple of weeks but this is the first time any bruising has come up. I definitely did not bang it

Have you rubbed/massaged it where it was sore? This could have caused bruising- I find if I have tense/sore muscles they bruise much more easily and badly when I massage them to relive the tightness. I think there is some belief about stagnant blood causing the pain and the massage helps to remove it from the area but looks like a very bad bruise...?

VimtoVimto · 13/07/2024 16:24

I had a constant bruise on my thigh from a badly placed desk at work that you had to dodge around to get to the door. I invariably walked into it but at the time it never hurt.

BobbyBiscuits · 13/07/2024 16:25

@Soubriquet hmmm...I know some people get haematomas really easily. But it can be a sign of anemia or liver issues?
I'd say see the GP if it hadn't gone down in a couple of days. If you're feeling well in general that's a good sign. But I still think something could have fallen on you, or you rolled and knocked on something? Sometimes on sleeping meds you might not notice? I guess you know your own body!
Hope it's nothing serious, it probably isn't.

Differentstarts · 13/07/2024 16:26

I wouldn't worry about it unless you repeatedly get random bruises or it spreads. It looks like an old bruise so you probably did it a week ago without realising.

Yes actually. I tried to ease the pain by giving myself a bit of a massage on the area. Didn’t think it would have been hard enough to bruise though

Could be from the springs in the mattress. Especially if you don't move much while sleeping. You really should get a bed though, it's unhygienic to just have a mattress on the floor. Air needs to circulate around it to prevent moisture from building up and mold developing. If you bruise more easily than normal it needs to be investigated.

I hope not!! It’s a brand new build house!!

Built on an ancient burial ground?

LizzieBennett73 · 13/07/2024 16:30

I'd try and see your GP about it, that's a large bruise to be unexplained and you ought to get anything serious ruled out.

Easy to say if you have the money for it. We don’t. We are just getting by. The next expense is dds secondary uniform. It’s on the list of something to buy though

I think you've been sleepwalking and hurt yourself

TimeandMotion · 13/07/2024 16:34

Please get checked. Unexplained bruising is a symptom of leukaemia. It killed my Dad.

I mean I'm not a doctor so shouldn't be giving advice, but with my achy muscles sometimes they just bruise so easily after self massage, but then after the bruise appears, the pain will only last a day or so, and then it heals also healing the original tight muscle! Hopefully same happens in your case :)

Blood clot?

They can present as bruises
