I’ve woken up to my right buttock being absolutely black and blue

And I don’t know why?!

I did no activities last night. I haven’t fallen out of bed. I didn’t fall over at all yesterday. It’s just randomly bruised and it’s bloody sore

If you genuinely have no idea how it happened then you really do need to see a doctor - unexplained bruising has all sorts of reasons from relatively minor to very serious.

endofthelinefinally · 13/07/2024 16:42

You can get severe bruising from torn muscle fibres. It doesn't have to be from impact. Could you have pulled a muscle several days ago?

GrazingSheep · 13/07/2024 16:43

Regular unexplained bruising can be a symptom of leukaemia or other serious blood disorders. I would make an urgent GP appointment if I were you.

Built on an ancient burial ground?

😂

halava · 13/07/2024 16:47

Even a slightly low platelet count (which is not harmful unless it dips hugely) can contribute to random bruising.

Ask me. I'd look better sometimes after a few random rounds with Mike Tyson! I have low platelets. Nothing to worry about so doc says but I can be the subject of much speculation sometimes. Hands, legs, stomach area all these bruises and I never remember how they got there!

MeAgainAndAgain · 13/07/2024 16:51

Are you doing something tiny all the time? Like, some tiny repeated manoeuvre into the bathroom that is building up?

Re sleeping on a mattress, I’ve done that on and off for years. One of my kids is currently doing it. Just lift the entire thing (no need to take duvet and sheets off) up and prop it against a wall to get the air to it. I tried to do it for a day maybe twice a week or something.

I had a constant bruise on my thigh from a badly placed desk at work that you had to dodge around to get to the door. I invariably walked into it but at the time it never hurt.

I also often used to bruise my hip or the top of my legs from banging into the corner of desks or tables. Could it be something like that?

Waffle78 · 13/07/2024 17:08

I've had a painful big bruise on my shin for a few weeks. Was trying to think how I had done it. Then I remembered I was bringing my online shopping order a couple of days before. In the rush bringing it in i tripped over 1 of the the collapseable crates I put it in at the door. I just expected to have a small bruise but it's as big as my hand.

I hope not!! It’s a brand new build house!!

Built over an Indian graveyard.

Toptotoe · 13/07/2024 17:24

You probably did it a few days ago and didn’t register it at the time

Caththegreat · 13/07/2024 17:31

I once woke up to a deep, dark bruise on my hip. No trauma, nothing to explain it
I ended up seeing the gp as it was there for over a week but he just dismissed it as nothing. It faded as suddenly as it appeared 😵‍💫

OMG haven't seen you in absolutely ages. It's like a blast from the past!

Are you alive? Might be livor mortis?

Don't you mean rigour mortis 😁

GROMIT50 · 13/07/2024 18:01

You should leave your partner, obviously been abusive towards you, I feel worried for your safety.

No. Bed frames been broken for nearly a year. It just isn’t a priority for me to get a frame when the mattress is fine. I haven’t had sex for a couple of months.

The top of my bum has been hurting for a couple of weeks but this is the first time any bruising has come up. I definitely did not bang it

Wonder if as you say the top of your bum was painful, you actually injured that part and the bruise is coming out but gravity sending it lower? Hope it feels better soon!

Shan5474 · 13/07/2024 18:03

I woke up to a random big black bruise on my elbow two days ago. I vaguely remember hitting it or something but completely dismissed it at the time as it must have only hurt for seconds. It’s easy to forget these insignificant things if you’re a bit clumsy or in a rush.

I second getting the mattress off the floor, even with wooden pallets. I had a houseguest for two months who slept on a mattress on the floor and there was visible mould after he moved out (wooden floor, not sure if carpet would be better or worse)

MysweetAudrina · 13/07/2024 18:09

Are you a real princess ? Just to rule it out maybe check under the mattress for a pea?

EBearhug · 13/07/2024 18:10

Irridescantshimmmer · 13/07/2024 17:58

Rigor mortis is the stiffness of death. Livor mortis is the colour. Algor mortis is temperature and I think there is another one I can't remember...

Where the fuck did you get that from?! My dh would never lay a hand on me

Have you had a massage there? I had this after physio on my glute.

MrsMitford3 · 13/07/2024 18:15

I also don't think that that looks like a fresh bruise.

I bruise like a peach.
I am always bashing into things and saying to DH-remember that-there will be bruise there but by the time I have a proper bruise I usually forget where I got it.

Could you have sat on something too hard and bruised it that way?
Or had keys or something in your back pocket and sat on them?

MrsMitford3 · 13/07/2024 18:17

Soubriquet · 13/07/2024 16:26

Yes actually. I tried to ease the pain by giving myself a bit of a massage on the area. Didn’t think it would have been hard enough to bruise though

I think maybe this-I had terrible hay fever and felt like scratching my eye out-was rubbing so hard I actually gave that eye a bruise!!!

That's a possibility - I had bruising like that after a deep tissue massage some years ago.

I have never had another deep tissue massage.

How do you work that out?
It could be a burst blood vessel.
She could have bashed herself on something.

I'm quiet sure she'd remember if her DH had been abusive
