Bank Holiday Monday on 15th July, if England win the Euros on Sunday 14th July? Surely they can't do this can they?!

I know lots of people (In England moreso,) want a National Day of Celebration if England win the Euros this Sunday 14th July. Apparently, in the form of a Bank Holiday the next day - Monday 15th July!

Surely they can't do this/won't do this?! Not the next day after the Euro24 final?!

It's too short notice for many people. I personally have a hospital appointment on Monday - at 11am, one I've been waiting for, for 5 months!

Also, our car is booked in for its MOT on Monday. Our MOT runs out on 22nd July and the garage has a 3 week waiting list for MOTs, so we won't be able to rebook it and get it done in time, if the garage decides to not open. (We have had the MOT booked in since the middle of June! DH is taking it in - in the morning whilst I am at the hospital.) I am getting a bus to the hospital, it's only 5 stops and 10 minutes. Will the bus times be affected?

My cousin has a dental appointment. That was booked in early May - a crown preparation. She has the follow up on 30th July to have the crown fitted!

AND my neighbour's 19 y.o. son has his driving test! At 2pm!

In short, so many people will have pre-booked things (general appointments, job interviews, driving tests, medical appointments, driving lessons, eye tests, routine surgery and check-ups, work related things and work booked in (like hairdressers, builders, mechanics, tradespeople etc...) All sorts! They can't just foist a bank holiday on us with virtually ZERO notice surely? Confused

NC for this in case people think I'm a bit batshit! Blush

Of course they can’t!

Hoppinggreen · 12/07/2024 20:34

Of course not, don't be daft

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 12/07/2024 20:41

Well I was hoping not, but at the same time, I was worried that a Bank Holiday may be announced and everywhere/most places would decide to shut, and then get in touch with people on Tuesday to re-arrange stuff. I'm daft I know. I do worry about silly things and this has been bugging me! Blush

Even my neighbour said today that she is worried her son's driving test may be cancelled! Glad it's not just me LOL!

I imagine many people will be calling in sick if we win cancelling appointments etc anyway

saveforthat · 12/07/2024 20:43

We won't win so don't worry

DappledThings · 12/07/2024 20:44

There's zero chance of there being a Bank Holiday called at no notice.

AfraidToRun · 12/07/2024 20:46

They won't call it, a bank holiday costs the economy c£2.9 billion.

Not if it's an appointment they have waited for for 4-6 months surely? Like a hospital appointment. Or a dental appointment they have had booked in for a month? (They would get a charge for not cancelling in time.) Driving tests? Driving lessons? Doctor and Nurse appointments? Car maintenance and MOTs etc? Surely people won't cancel those sort of things?

It will be some time in August I imagine with a bus oaragr with the trophy etc, not the next day

Doggymummar · 12/07/2024 20:48

Should say parade

Dressinggownlife · 12/07/2024 20:48

I doubt that. Our boss has said if we do win we can come in at 11am instead of 9am on Monday

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 12/07/2024 20:49

@DappledThings · Today 20:44

There's zero chance of there being a Bank Holiday called at no notice.

You really think so? You're probably right! Why do they keep mentioning it on TV though? Even Keir Starmer didn't confirm or deny it yesterday when asked!

Really? OMG! Shock

Don’t be bonkers, of course they won’t.

wastingtimeonhere · 12/07/2024 20:50

Spain will wallop them, I wouldn't worry.

Itsmeamandaberry · 12/07/2024 20:50

Maybe calm down?

Sethera · 12/07/2024 20:50

No, if it happens (which I doubt) I should think it will coincide with the team's homecoming, or else they'll tack it onto the existing August holiday.

I'm not into football but it surprises me that those who are are counting their chickens like this - if it was something I cared about I'd never risk jinxing it like that 😂

MotherFeministWoman · 12/07/2024 20:50

Where did you get this information from?

Willmafrockfit · 12/07/2024 20:51

what did they do when the women won it?

the men are unlikely to beat spain imo

Yeah and I believe some schools have said similar. Surely some workers will need to come in on time though if they have appointments all day - like dentists and doctors and mechanics and hairdressers etc? (And the appointments start at 9am?)

Do people just believe any old shit now?

CurbsideProphet · 12/07/2024 20:52

I don't know who got this idea in your head, but it's a bit daft to think the government could just announce a bank holiday with a few hours notice.

Yeah, they did nothing for the women did they?

Much as I'd like to say he could win, it is extremely unlikely! Even if we do, there will be no bank holiday on the 15th, I promise you.

There might be some schools and workplaces starting late, but I don't think that happened when the women won, did it?
