24 and 25 - so young.

Wonderknicks · 11/07/2024 22:12

1960s 34 & 35. Ancient for those days.
DH's were 18 & 20, so a completely different generation.

AuschwitzHistorian · 11/07/2024 22:14

Mum 43 dad 49. They were the oldest in the playground, couldn’t cope with a teenager and by the time I was 20 I had the oldest parents among my friends, I was their “rainbow baby” apparently and there is an age gap of 16 and 14 years between me and my siblings, we were never close.

I had our children in my was in my 20s I’m glad I did. DH and I made the decision if there was no children by the time we were 35 we weren’t having any due to both of us having older parents.

Both mid 30s, adoptive parents. Bio mum was unmarried Catholic girl. I was relieved to learn she was early 20s and not some vulnerable teen.

20 and 21. I've got two older and two younger siblings too. All born before dm turned 25.

Catnipcupcakes · 11/07/2024 22:29

Both 45.

I always did and still wish they’d been younger and I’m 53 now.

Fifthtimelucky · 11/07/2024 22:29

When my eldest sibling was born my father was 32 and my mother was 31.

When my youngest sibling was born they were 40 and 39.

There are four of us and we were all born in the 1960s.

HiGunny · 11/07/2024 22:31

They were both 19. And they had my sister at 35.

MaidOfSteel · 11/07/2024 22:31

Edited

I said 35 was my cut off too for the same reason.

We ended up not having any, no regrets.

they were 22 & 23 when my brother was born
and my sister who has a different dad was born when my mum was 36

I am amazed at so many of these first or second time thirtysomething parents, as it was very unusual in the late 70s and 80s where I was brought up!
My granny had my dad at 29, almost 30 in 1955, but probably because she had a career as a nurse until marriage, in the days when women had to give up those sorts of jobs on marriage

My mum was 25 and my dad was 22 with me, the first child, and tbh my mum was quite old really for a first-time mother at the time. Most others wouldn't have been more than 22 or 23 having their first child.

They were 29 and 27 with my brother, the third and last child.

The average age of mothers giving birth in 1970 was 27. There would have been plenty of younger mums so there must have been plenty of older mums as well.

My maternal grandmother was 31 when my mum was born back in the 1940s (and she had a younger sibling as well).

My paternal grandmother was 38 when my dad was born back in the 1930s - she would have been 30 when her first child arrived.
