My mum was 32 and my dad was 40. They were 35 and 43 when my sister was born. My mum says she felt like an “old” mother at the time but it’s a perfectly normal age these days. DH’s parents were both in their 40s when he was born.

HolaSenorita · 11/07/2024 21:40

My mum was 30. She said that was considered an older mum at the time

Borgonzola · 11/07/2024 21:42

My dad was 40, my mum a few days off 43.

gano · 11/07/2024 21:43

I am amazed at so many of these first or second time thirtysomething parents, as it was very unusual in the late 70s and 80s where I was brought up!
My granny had my dad at 29, almost 30 in 1955, but probably because she had a career as a nurse until marriage, in the days when women had to give up those sorts of jobs on marriage

My mum was 25 and my dad was 22 with me, the first child, and tbh my mum was quite old really for a first-time mother at the time. Most others wouldn't have been more than 22 or 23 having their first child.

They were 29 and 27 with my brother, the third and last child.

CremeEggThief · 11/07/2024 21:46

In the area I live in now, I would say most of the local mums have had their first child by 25/26. I was 24.

Mama05070704 · 11/07/2024 22:02

Mum 19 and dad just turned 22. I’m the eldest, both went on the remarry and have more children. Youngest sibling on my mums side was born when she was 33 and my dad was 36 when my youngest half sibling was born.

It was the norm at the time (early 80’s) where my parents grew up. People left school, got married and started families.

I had my eldest at 32.

Kanelsnegl · 11/07/2024 22:04

Whatagoodidea45 · 11/07/2024 22:07

Both 17. I wish it wasn’t the case as I feel judged for it, which I know is silly

RampantKrampus · 11/07/2024 22:07

29(m) and 34(f) for me, I’m the eldest of two
33(m) and 38(f) with my brother.

Having had ours at 26/29 and 28/31 was far too young in their eyes 🤣
