Just for fun. Dd and I are slowly working our way through some popular ones but our favourite so far has got to be the humble spicy margarita.
Also do you have any superb recipes for them? This evening we made mint juleps and caipirinha and both we okay.
i bought good quality spirits, not cheap ones but there is definitely an art to mixology!!

Margarita and Bees Knees. Had a Hugo Spritz on holiday recently and it was so good - Prosecco, elderflower cordial, sparkling water, lime and mint

Ooh I love a Moscow mule too and also an amaretto sour!! Good calls there.
whats in a sex on the beach?
she likes an espresso martini but I don’t like anything coffee.

Vodka, orange juice and peach snapps, cranberry.

Oh and im reminded of a caipioska. Another vodka base.

Manhattan. Canadian club whiskey or wild turkey; perfect (mix of sweet and dry vermouth) with a maraschino cherry and bitters never an orange twist. Lived in Leeds in my younger years and spent a lot of time at the cocktail bar Mojo in the v. late 90s/2000s. Mal the owner called me the Manhattan Lady. They added juice out of the cherry jar. Them wert days.

Long Island Ice Tea - a group of 12 of us went to New York for a friends wedding about 10 years ago, all of us newly weds and childfree, and spent a wonderful few hours drinking them at The Boat House in Central Park. It’s one of my favourite memories of that trip.

If anyone has any tips for homemade margaritas please let me know, I’ve never quite managed to get the balance right. I’ve been using fresh limes but like them quite tangy, starting to think I should buy a bottle of margarita mix like cheap bars use and add my own tequila!

I use 2 parts lime to one part tequila to one half part Cointreau, perfect for us, and just the right side of boozy so you can have a few! Juicing the limes is a task though, the ones in Waitrose (loose ones) are really big and are the best ones I’ve found.
For the seasoning on edge to make it spicy I use salt and whatever spicy powder i can find, usually a hot paprika and cayenne, some people also use a bit of sugar but I prefer it without. And also half a red chilli (or just cut so the seeds inside are exposed) in the shaker.

I like an Espresso Martini
I had a Long Island Iced Tea but I was already several sheets to the wind so though I know I liked it I don't remember it at all
Pimms is good
Then your standard gin or martini & tonic

When I was a teenager I drank a fair bit of Cinzano and lemonade (it was the 80s, ok) as well as vodka&orange and vodka&black which tastes of tixylix

But I'm not really a cocktail person because I drink them too quickly. On a trip to the pub I'll almost certainly order beer.

TheChosenTwo · 10/07/2024 20:47

Loads of really good suggestions, thank you all - we’ve got a fun summer project ahead!
I hate an aperol spritz though, tastes like hairspray to me 🫣
And I have never had a nice Long Island iced tea but I’m not against having a go myself.

I've never in my life had a cocktail! I wouldn't have a clue what to ask for or what I might like, so whenever I find myself in a pub I always just have carbonated water to drink. I know where I am with that! 😂

Haha that’s fair enough! I usually stick with either vodka and Diet Coke or a beer and am often disappointed with cocktails when I’m out but I still give them a go 😂

I make my margaritas strong. 2 parts tequila, 2 parts lime, 1 part triple sec. I'm always disappointed when I get one in a pub, mine is so much better 😀 I like a very salty rim, sometimes use chilli salt

Ilovemyshed · 10/07/2024 20:53

Negroni, made with orange gin with a splash of chocolate bitters

Or a Bombardier

LizzieBennett73 · 10/07/2024 20:55

French 75 - gin, champagne and lemon juice.

Absolutely lethal but very very nice.

Chypre · 10/07/2024 20:55

Nothing beats Espresso Martini after dinner.

JustAGalWhoLovesBooks · 10/07/2024 20:56

Lychee martini or a spicy margarita 🍹

Ilovemyshed · 10/07/2024 20:57

Sorry not Bombardier, a Boulevardier.

StuntNun · 10/07/2024 20:57

Basil Boatyard Smash. It's gin, muddled basil, lemon juice and sugar syrup. https://www.thinkginclub.com/boatyard-basil-smash/

NextFriYAY · 10/07/2024 20:57

I forgot - Manhattan (and also a Brandy Manhattan).

BotterMon · 10/07/2024 21:05

There used to be a Long Island Iced Tea bar near Covent Garden - best LIIT I've ever had.

Love a Pina Colada but favourite has to be a Ti' Punch from Guadeloupe. Agricultural rum, sugar syrup and a quarter lime squished to release the juice. Short cocktail but really good. Also like an Ouzo or Ricard with water in the summer.

NashvilleQueen · 10/07/2024 21:08

Margarita (straight up)
Caipirinha
Long Island
Cosmo (with really good vanilla vodka)

BinkyBeaufort · 10/07/2024 21:16

B52.
Layered coffee liqueur, Irish cream and Grand Marnier.
I could drink a dozen, or at least try to.

Bloom15 · 10/07/2024 21:17

Kir Royale

gimmegimmegimmeagin · 10/07/2024 21:18

Pina colada, but it has to be abroad in the sun! Somehow doesn't taste quite the same at home 😎

kitsuneghost · 10/07/2024 21:19

I like a mai tai. DP likes a negroni

Iamblossom · 10/07/2024 21:27

Dark and Stormy

I'm a dark rum girl
