There has been an election. Most people have said the cost of living and the state of the NHS are bigger issues.

Thank god they did. Approx 0.5% of the UK population identifies as trans. Pretty sure nearly 100% of UK residents use the NHS at some point in their lives and pretty sure the cost of living crisis is impacting on a damn lot more than 0.5%. If only 0.5% of Mumsnet threads could be about trans topics but there's far too many people on here who've made it an agenda and will turn anything they can into a trans hating thread.

You know Labour took office on Friday, right? That's five days ago. Yes, they had a rough idea of public finances before the election, but until they actually got their hands on the books it was impossible to know for sure the actual state of them. It's actually sensible for her to order a deep dive. But hey, keep cheering for her and Labour to fail – then we'll see you back on here in a year or so, moaning about the state of YOUR finances because the economy is still tanking.

You do realise there is no surprises in public finances really as the IFS the OECD, the ONS, the bank of England and many others are ALL regularly producing reports that tend to be up to a month current, and unless there has been a major policy change within a month then most of these reports will be accurate within a period of time that the guesses are very accurate, there is no surprise we know we are still borrowing billions, so the Tories should not of been cutting taxes and Labour should not of been promising to not raise them back again, we ALL know we are still borrowing, we do not need a new report to tell us what we already know, and her deep dive will only tell her the same as the reports that were generated last month and were publicly available.
But the thread was asking who would be sacked first, and I answered that and why, when she needs to raise some taxes the Labour party will sacrifice her in the name of raising taxes and it being her fault.

Those things, in the public domain, are our business. Whatever trans people decide to call their own body parts isn't.

Whatever anyone chooses to do in private is their own business!

The point is that they’re demanding access to womens spaces and sports. So damn right it’s our business

I think Lammy too. He's thick. You can only hide that for so long

Yes Harvard famously accepting all those thickies to study there 🙄

If a trans woman undergoes surgery to make them feel like they're the person they want to be, they can damn well call those newly created parts whatever they like. So no, not an actual cervix, but THEIR cervix.

They can call their body parts whatever they like. Doesn't change the biological reality though does it?

No, IMO it doesn't. But I honestly don't care if that's what they want to think about themselves.

She is a working class women. How dare she become Deputy Prime Minister instead of work as a cashier at Tesco. She does not even pretend to be middle class by aping their ways of being.

Not only that, a Northern working class woman who still has a northern accent. How very dare she?

Except you’re the one scaremongering calling it “hate”

Disagreeing that men can grow a cervix or that trans women are in fact women is not hate!

Why is standing up for women’s rights and common sense hate? Please explain to to me

But I’d quite like to read her/their report

ONS is so user unfriendly, and l don’t want to search through everything. I want it there is easy format to read.

Scared of what they’ll turn up?

Because it’s a MN obsession that doesn’t exist in real life.

Neither do I. I don't care what people think about themselves and fully support people living a life that suits them.

However, I will not deny biological reality and I do not want biological men in single sex spaces and sports.

"Couldn’t you immediately tell what it would lead to - everyone’s prejudices spewing everywhere and an opportunity to criticise a new government for stuff they haven’t done yet 🤷‍♀️
It’s mind boggling."

In fairness, I am very positive about the new government, and I wish them well. I'm happy to see grown-ups in charge. The only person I have been critical about is David Lammy, and that was the case long before he was in the new government, and refers to his actions and comments before he became part of the new government (although I have no doubt he has the capability to add to the list whilst he is part of the new government now!) It is entirely possible to be supportive of the government as a whole, but still have reservations about certain ministers.

Edited

Everyone is entitled to opinions about them. It’s starting a thread being gleeful about more chaos in government when not only hasn’t it happened but it’s very unlikely to that I find odd.

How on earth is it scaremongering? Are you reading something else? It is hate - plain and simple hate. It's gone far beyond standing up for women's rights.

Theres a trans woman at my work that uses the womens toilets. Women self exclude and go to a different floor! Pointless raising it with management as they’re totally captured.

Have you seen what’s happened to the nurses in Durham?

It's interesting that 50% of electorate is being referred to here. Statistic published on BBC shows that only 32% voted labour. They've won because other parties performed worse, but doesn't change the fact that it is 32% of electorate, not 50%...

Just being pedantic.

The 50% referred to women, not Labour voters.

Just being corrective.

Do you think men can grow a cervix with hormones?

One of the Reform lot will be gone by Halloween.

TiredCatLady · 10/07/2024 13:52

While I’m not sure who will be the first to bite the dust, I don’t think Starmer will last the full 4-5 years as leader. Nor Rayner where she currently is because she clearly wants to be leader.

ElaineMBenes · 10/07/2024 13:52

He didn't make any "disgusting comments on women".

He said there were members of the Conservative party and the Labour Party who were like dinosaurs, hoarding their rights.

It's been blown up by anti-left into "woman hating" and its not really a fair representation.

I am a woman. I most certainly consider it disgusting for a man to inform me that I am a dinosaur hoarding my rights because I want to be able to refuse to let a man perform my smear test, or a rape examination, or to be put in a woman's refuge with me in the event I was the victim of severe male violence. This is not anti-left, this is anti-horrific assault on the capacity for women to make their own decisions about their safety and their dignity. You may be happy for men to take control of those things for you; I am not and I am determined to preserve my autonomy.

And you think that her new report will be an easier read? are they going to dumb it down for her?
It will be the same complexities as ALL the other regularly produced reports on public finances.
And I am not scared what it will show, it will show what we ALL already know, the country is spending too much and NOT taxing enough to pay for the services that people expect, it will show we are borrowing £150 billion a year still and that the Tories should NOT of been cutting taxes and NI for votes.

Cattery · 10/07/2024 13:54

Cos the ones that went to school in top hats really knew their stuff didn’t they. I have far more in common with Angela Rayner than I ever could have with thick entitled toffs
