What is your phobia?

I hate slugs, I just had to clean out one of those drain nest straining devices on my gutter and there was a slug in it, one of those khaki ones with an orange frill Envy. I'm grimacing now just writing that down. I feel tense and revolted that I know it's up there still. It's ridiculous but I'm going to be thinking of this all day and feeling a bit queasy all day.
Anyone relate to this?

Another one for flying/trains/being trapped!

Any offers of advice gratefully received!!

Mummylovesmonkeys · 08/07/2024 00:35

wet tea bags. Dry. I'm fine with, just the wet ones.

Scorchio84 · 08/07/2024 00:37

Trypophobia.. (holes) even typing it is giving me the absolute willies
Daddy Long Legs, the flying ones not the spiders, I like spiders

Edit* actually maybe the Daddy Long Legs is just a fear rather than a phobia? Like I'd scream or jump if there was one near me whereas with the holes it's an axiety thing

Any social occasion but especially weddings. I’ve only been at two in my whole life because I couldn’t get out of going and hated every second. Every other wedding I’ve been invited to I’ve come up with some excuse not to go.

SnowFrogJelly · 08/07/2024 00:58

Lifts, being locked in toilets, long escalators in tube stations

novocaine4thesoul · 08/07/2024 01:20

Vomiting. Not me, I can count on less than two hands in an entire lifetime, and have indured food poisoning twice, drunkenness, 5 pregnancies, norovirus (thanks kids) and bad travel 3 metre seas. But everyone else. I suspect caused originally by my younger brother being hopelessly car sick as a child, literally, we could go less than 2 miles before the "can you pass the bucket" would start.

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/07/2024 01:34

Earwigs. I have left the house when one was in the garden. I can't go somewhere if someone has seen one.

farmergirl15 · 08/07/2024 04:50

Nails breaking. Makes me gag

KaToby · 08/07/2024 07:19

I’m severely claustrophobic.

Spiders (Like most people it seems!)

People dressed as animals, my poor kids will never experience Disney with me!

Cotton wool, even typing it makes me feel weird.

LlynTegid · 08/07/2024 08:16

Swallowing apple pips. Until I was a teenager I would not eat an apple that had not been cut into pieces.

Earwigs are horrible aren't they?

Trigger warning

My Nana used to have beautiful bushes of hydrangeas in her back garden but unfortunately earwigs used to hide in the flowers

Spiders is the top one

but also the same as a PP can’t stand reservoirs or large areas of standing water such as lakes etc it’s the thought of large dumpers etc just left in them. Then my DH told me of a train back in war time that came off the track near here and fell on to peat, they couldn’t retrieve it so it was sort of absorbed fully into the peat 🤮🤮 it’s just not right

i also can’t watch videos of people driving through big floods

MonsteraMama · 08/07/2024 13:09

Bears, which I'd argue is not a phobia and is a very sensible and rational fear.

My husband would point out that not being able to enter a Build a Bear is not sensible.

Oh god, me too!

Very occasionally I've put my hands into a bowl of washing up water, only to find that my horror of a husband has tipped then end of his cup of tea into it, teabag and all.

It makes me absolutely shudder and heave!

ColinRobinsonsFart · 08/07/2024 18:48

Electricity pylons and
Electricity substations- the ones where you can see all of the workings.i can't look at them.

I think this stems from a tv program called 'the changes'

Oh and anything linked to nuclear war or energy - thanks to protect and survive

Grazyna80 · 08/07/2024 18:55

Cockroaches ! Ex husband. Same thing really.

FindingMeno · 08/07/2024 19:02

Driving.
Bursting balloons.

Edited

I’ve already contributed to the thread with my other phobias, but I’m also like this with large areas of water. If I visit a lake and there is a huge tree growing near it, it makes me feel ill. I can’t stand tall things and vast areas of water. The thought of things like the huge Titanic sinking miles into the sea and also knowing the sea is miles deep makes me hyperventilate. I also hate electricity pylons and as for oil rigs - it’s the combination of all my fears in one nasty object. I can’t even look at a picture of one!

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 08/07/2024 19:13

Oh and another one tall cranes. I can’t walk past them.
