What is your phobia?

I hate slugs, I just had to clean out one of those drain nest straining devices on my gutter and there was a slug in it, one of those khaki ones with an orange frill Envy. I'm grimacing now just writing that down. I feel tense and revolted that I know it's up there still. It's ridiculous but I'm going to be thinking of this all day and feeling a bit queasy all day.
Anyone relate to this?

I have emetophobia, which is not helped by working in a school!

birdphobia · 07/07/2024 17:57

I have a deathly fear of ostriches and similar birds. I can make myself feel very faint and queasy just thinking about them

WLaura · 07/07/2024 18:04

Any type of bird or rodent with tails pigeons seaguls ducks geese etc

I have a massive phobia of chickens and turkey it's that bad I hyperventilate (panic that i cant breathe but its not severe it's only while i walk past) when I walk past the chickens at the end of my road

How do you cope with that?!

veritusverity · 07/07/2024 18:13

FloofPaws · 07/07/2024 17:11

Holes 😳
Heights
Spiders
Holey spiders up the Shard

Do you mean holey spiders, or 🕷️ coming out of 🕳️ on the highest floor in the shard ceiling?
The former would be okay but the latter wouldn't be pleasant!

NoNameisGoodEnough · 07/07/2024 18:15

Spiders, vomit, heights, flying.

JOEM1978 · 07/07/2024 18:16

Cosmemaphobia, a fear of jewellery

Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers · 07/07/2024 18:17

Seeing people vomit or vomiting myself. Vomit in general.

Cattery · 07/07/2024 18:28

I can’t even type the word but begins with F ends in G and jumps

Driving. I have had to stop its got so bad. Just thinking about driving gives me massive anxiety

I tried. Took many many lessons, passed the theory test with flying colors but never got past the terrified feeling driving. I'll never have a license.

purplerain37 · 07/07/2024 18:43

@LondonQueen do you get any of the children's bugs? I've often wanted to work in a school but simply cannot because of this fear.

Cocteautriplet · 07/07/2024 17:33

I don’t like overly intricate things with small parts (like circuit boards) or overly pointy things (like the prongs of a rake or fork). I fear them coming near my eyes and it makes me mentally wince to see them. For years I thought it was just my mad brain but it turns out it’s a real problem called visual looming syndrome and there are a select group of us that suffer! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Edited

I don't know if it's related, but it's umbrella spikes for me. I hate being in a mass of people all wielding umbrellas. I think it started when I was a child and someone opened an umbrella too close to my face. I'd rather be rained on than have to be too close to somebody else's umbrella.

Being sick. Emetophobia. Absolutely petrified of it 😢

Same.

BodyKeepingScore · 07/07/2024 18:51

Birds. To the degree where I won't go out my front door if they're in the garden. Particularly crows. No idea why and it's something that really interferes with park trips or forest days out. I just cannot shake the panic I feel especially if they're "flapping" near me.

I have emetophobia, which is not helped by working in a school!

Same and same. I'm ashamed to say a few months ago in a crowded corridor I saw a heaving child. Rather than stay and look after him, I pretended I didn't and walked past. So ashamed I didn't help him, but I couldn't.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 07/07/2024 18:53

Loose buttons.

And (not quite a phobia) false teeth. They make me heave.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 07/07/2024 18:57

Spiders and the scratchy foil like texture of the edges of over cooked fried eggs

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 07/07/2024 18:59

I have trypophobia

purplerain37 · 07/07/2024 19:04

@clarepetal I completely understand your actions though. Don't feel bad. I run a mile from any situation like that. I even struggle when somebody coughs (just in case!)

Sharontheodopolodous · 07/07/2024 19:07

Tin foil
I just can't stand it and won't have it in the house

hlc123 · 07/07/2024 22:03

I have a few. My biggest phobia is emetophobia - fear of vomiting and this also contributes to dental phobia. Not scared of pain but scared of gagging/ vomiting whilst the dentist is working on my teeth. I am also very anxious around dogs due to a couple of bad experiences

Other fears are:
rats/ mice
bats
being trapped

CatchHimDerry · 07/07/2024 22:10

Another one for emetophobic (being sick) and also spiders but only the big hairy brown house / garden spider types. Smaller ones or the wispy looking ones I leave them be 😂

My mother is frogs for some reason, I love them they’re cute

CatchHimDerry · 07/07/2024 22:17

@clarepetal aww don’t feel bad, I’d be outta there as well in case it’s contagious.
Sorry kiddo 😂

I’ve only just gotten over when DS took us all out with noro at 8 months old twice in a short time (grotbags nursery) and I couldn’t cope with helping the poor dab, luckily husband was a trooper.
He’s 2 now and I’ve JUST about become less horrified

Mine is strange though as I’ve gotten older it’s changed from absolute horror at vomit of any sort to now it’s mostly the fear of catching it and having the sickness myself

Elcoto · 07/07/2024 22:28

I don’t live in the UK. Livestock guardian dogs. Ive had several of run-ins with them (I hike), and now, the sound of sheep or cow bells (so romantic, so Heidi) sends me into blind panic at the thought of encountering very large, very aggressive dogs. A jogger was killed by them recently in my province ☹️. It probably isn’t a phobia to be scared of something that is actually dangerous, but the way I freeze and my brain refuses to work is very phobic-like.

Mickz · 07/07/2024 22:31

Emetophobia. Not too bothered about being sick myself but more other people being sick especially the kids. Ironically work in a hospital
